I’ve been to this sushi restaurant plenty of times for lunch for their lunch combo but I went for the first time for dinner. I had the omakase special which consisted of the fish specials of the day chosen by the chef. We had to wait like almost a half hour for our meals to come out however. I really enjoyed the sushi though because it seemed fresh. There were about 15 different pieces all together and they were all delicious. I would come back again for sure. It’s definitely good for sushi lovers.

Giving this place a 3 because their website is in Japanese and I can’t order to go. Sometimes I want sushi at home.

I’m stunned by the overall meh review and low number of reviews for this place. This is easily in the top 5 best sushi places in South Bay. We always get omakase which comes with a few starters/sides. The omakase menu changes a bit each time, so I’m always trying a least one new thing each time I eat here. The chef is super nice and is happy to educate you about the fish if you ask. The fish is always amazing. Another stunner is how cheap this place is! You will not find a better omakase in all of L.A. for this price.

Very authentic and traditional sushi! I had the omakase and it was really good and fresh! The service here is great — attentive and quick.

Outstanding authentic Japanese Sushi. No Koreans working here. No crazy rolls with sauce to mask the quality. Just fresh, real Japanese Sushi. Not cheap, but a great value.

Very good traditional sushi. Staff are all clearly Japanese speakers– in fact I strongly recommend you go with one for the best experience. Not yet crazy about the place tho. Could be because we came in a good sized group(8 people) and did omakase at the table, which is always a bit weird to me. Had fairly conventional things, but the sockeye salmon was a nice bit of variety, as was a nigiri with tiny little shrimp(not all that tasty, tho). Squid with sea salt was very nice, as was the clam(or was it scallop) with shiso leaf– there was plenty of innovation in what was otherwise a pretty straightforward take on sushi. Cuts of fish were quality but size was fairly unremarkable. Rice was quite decent. Honestly I think this place needs a few more visits so I can truly flesh out the menu. 3.5 stars, but will round up to 4– I think it does deserve 4, but I’m not quite fully convinced.

This place is for people who are seeking ‘Authentic Japanese Sushi’ if you LOVE Americanized sushi, you should look for another place. Since I was born and grew up in Japan, it’s so hard to find a authentic sushi place here in LA since most of the place are ‘americanized’ to get more customers. Of course they don’t serve you California roll or whatever roll. But you will be amazed how sushi chef is serving dishes… I ordered sushi selection which you can choose 5 different sushi besides salad, miso soup, Hijiki, and steamed egg hotchpotch. Every meal was amazingly delicious. Very traditional Japanese dishes. I was so happy to find a sushi place which you can get authentic sushi. I will def come back here again :)

I’m giving it a 4 cause the sushi chef and server were nice, but I’m not giving it a 5 cause I thought for the price the sushi could have tasted better. It didn’t taste fresh and it didn’t have that buttery feeling. Maybe we went on a day when it wasn’t so fresh? The miso soup and fatty tuna bowl were really good though.

Ate here on a Friday night. Overall, the food was pretty good, but nothing really stood out. I’ve gone to other sushi restaurants where the flavors had much more depth and you leave the restaurant thinking«damn, that was one great meal» with the notion that you got your money’s worth. This place fell a little short, hence the 4 stars. We ordered a variety of dishes, from sautéed white shrimp from Japan, shishamo tempura to simmered white fish, chawamushi(egg custard), mozuku(seaweed soup), snow crab leg meat, and sushi. The shrimp was tasty and unique but portion size was small. The simmered white fish was overpowered by the cooking sake. The chawamushi and mozuku were standard and good. The snow crab leg meat lacked a bit of sweetness; the sushi was above average and the did the job. The menu is a bit limited as this place serves traditional Japanese dishes. Do not go here looking to order rolls or a teriyaki chicken bowl. Service was quick and attentive and the place was well lit and clean.

It was my first time coming here, it was my mom’s bday and she is a snob when it comes to real Japanese sushi. I cannot take her to just any supposed authentic sushi spot. It’s for my mom, sky’s the limit. My mom knew ken from back in the days, he knows my brother and my dad. Real nice guy, joking and laughing with us. I loved it!!! The fish was so fresh. We don’t do omakase, no lunch deals, just plain at the counter order till we are full. Expensive, but don’t mind it for good food and for my mom. We ordered everything on the menu. Toro, uni, amaebi, ikura, ootoro, aji, hamachi, the works. It was delicious. His staff is really attentive, fast, and even his son helps. It was good seeing that. It’s a homely place, friendly and did I already tell you that it serves great sushi! I’m definitely coming back, preferably without my mom lol. Just kidding. Make sure you make reservations, for dinner it gets crowded.

I went to lunch at Sushi Ken at the request of a physician I was meeting for work. «Its one of the best sushi places in the area» he promised. That’s cool with me since I’m always down for sushi. This quaint unassuming spot is located in a random strip-mall that would have otherwise been missed if I wasn’t looking for it. In fact, when I pulled up I was like– huh??? Its no frills up in here– just a sushi bar with a REAL Japanese sushi guy behind the counter and a few scattered tables pretty much make up the joint. You aren’t going to find any deep-fried, ponzu sauce doused, cream-cheese filled rolls with names like«sexy girl» at this place– thank god. The menu is simple– not a lot of words, no pictures. In fact I think its just a two page booklet, plus the back of the menu for drinks. I’m noticing this is common for authentic Japanese spots. They could use my help with the marketing… Anyway, if you know what you have in mind, fear not. The food sells itself. My doc ordered some sushi and a cooked noodle dish of some kind. As expected, he thoroughly enjoyed it. My partner ordered a salad and a california roll. Blasphemous, I know. I ordered the chef’s selection sushi lunch entrée. It rocked. My lunch was light, delicate and fresh– everything sushi should be. I’ve been back a few times since by myself. My favorite lunch is a fresh green salad and spicy tuna roll special they offer for $ 8.95. The spicy tuna is amazing. Hits the spot every time. Another reason I love this place is because the server is the sweetest Japanese kid. He is polite and attentive and brings hot authentic Japanese green tea and iced water to you within seconds of sitting down. The verdict: I Heart Sushi Ken! Price: $$ Service: A+ Sushi: A+ Ambiance: simple. Perfect spot for a casual sushi lunch or dinner with friends or alone! Arigato! xo Dre

I’m Japanese, I love sushi soooo much, if you want a real, authentic, fresh, fine Japanese sushi in Torrance, Sushi Ken is the place! Omakase always make us happy :) Price is reasonable too. Service is solid, simple but good enough. If you’re looking for sushi rolls like mayo or cheezy stuff, go somewhere else!
