I found a hair in my egg plant this past year… Approximately 14 inches in length. I brought it to the attention to the lady with«long black hair» and she denied it was hers. Then she had the nerve to serve me a second plate from where the hair was found in the eggplant. She then verbally defended her kitchen by saying they wash their hands and wear hair nets. Next thing she did, she ran into the kitchen without a hair net and ran back out. Bottom line. — Public Health Violation.

So excited to see their online menu only to find them closed for business. What gives? Please reopen curry leaf! Very least let Unilocalers know what your business status is.

Has the most friendliest of Service and amazingly comforting environment that most places lack! Very awesome. Not to mention the food is savory and delicious. From someone who lives in Los Angeles to travel to this location I can guarantee that the commute is worth it! This place gives such a great welcome and the food impacts the flavors in ways that is more than satisfying. Love the workers and the food! Plus they really do go the extra mile to make sure you’re time here was worth spent!

My Sri-Lankan co-worker brought over some homemade kabocha curry a couple weeks ago, and urged me to try it. I knew then and there, I had to try other Sri-Lankan food. So after searching for a couple of hours, this was the place. After a terrible experience at the Sherman Oaks location, I was real hesistant to give this place another try. Just in case, I called ahead and asked if buffet all day was still going on, the lady at the other end assured me it was(read my other review for Curry Leaf if you want a better understanding of what went down) I walked in and it was pretty empty, it’s a small little place, but manageable. As soon as we sat down, the nice lady behind the counter let us know we could get started as soon as we wanted. So i dropped my purse and picked up a plate. My friend and I decided to do all you can eat lunch for 11.99, nice huh? Out of all the items I got, the Kabocha curry is hands down, the most amazing thing i’ve ever tried in this world. I didn’t think I would like it, but my goodness, amazing! It was almost the same as my co-workers homemade version. I did like the other items they had to offer, but I definitely got at least 3 plates worth of Kabocha. I also tried some other dishes, I don’t know their names and thats one part of the reason this place got 3 stars from me. Nothing was labeled. I kept having to ask the lady what this item was, what that item was. I also found the food to be salty and really oily, I don’t know if this is typically how Sri-Lankan food is, I’d love to give another place a try, but this is based off what I ate here. I also had a plate of rice and the rice was hard and crunchy, made me think it either wasn’t cooked all the way, or it was stale :( Staff was friendly, very interactive with the customers, constantly checking up on us and asking if everything was ok, which I liked. Would I come back? absolutely, the kabocha curry alone is worth a drive, but I probably wouldn’t get anything else.

Very friendly home style food from Sri Lanka. My boy friend goes crazy at this place every time we come to LA, and he is from Sri Lanka. Haha. I love their vegetarian dishes.

ok I gave this place a great review before but I am not sure if it changed hands AGAIN but the food tastes like its being reheated and/or old. The flavors are more Indian than Sri Lankan. Lastly, their business hours say 9AM on Mondays, we drove all the way over there, got there at 10AM and they were not open.

Love this little place. Two visits now, tasty food(no menu as of now, I just eat the colorful variety of curries and side dishes that are brought to the table), and friendly conversation with Anoja the owner. Sri Lanka is a wonderful little country, and I was happy to find Sri Lankan food hidden in the hubbub of Los Angeles!

Authentic and very tasteful — brings the real Sri Lankan traditional style of looking. Verily of choices for vegans and meat lovers. It is not for the faint of heart — for the people that really crave spicy tasty different world of food other than the day to day ordinary cuisine. Love this place.

We came here for the lunch buffet on my husband’s birthday for something new and different. Having never had Sri Lankan food before I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was quite delicious with some dishes that really knocked my socks off like charred eggplant and collard greens with coconut. The only meats were a chicken curry and a fish curry… both were very good and reminded me of my parents home dishes from Goa, India. Loved the lemon rice! The owner even made us a compliementary cup of hot ginger milk tea! Not sure how this compares with actual authentic dishes from this country but we enjoyed it very much.

A hole in the wall but Great food and Home like atmosphere. Sri Lankan cuisine is a close cousin of the South Indian fare especial of Kerala. My fav was the jack fruit curry on the buffet.

We were both super excited to dine at The Curry Leaf and try Sri Lankan Food as this would be our first foray into the cuisine. Unfortunately, we spent $ 26 at lunch for inedible food. I support mom and pop and ethnic food but this was sadly one of the worst cases of overly salted food we had ever encountered. We took bites of the food we had selected from the buffet and looked at each other with knowing eyes trying not to say anything as the proprietor watched on. Maybe we should’ve said something to her about the level of salt in her food but as it was our first time with the cuisine we didn’t want to be rude. We continued with our meal like children who are forced fed undesirable veggies at the dinner table and when we cleaned our plates we settled the bill and skedaddled out of there with a heavy thirst. A water bottle had to be purchased at a nearby gas station to help flush out all the salt we had consumed on the drive home. It seems like we may has encountered them on a day in which the chef had a heavy hand with the salt shaker because no other reviews mentioned this phenomenon. Unfortunately for us we were quite traumatized by the highly salted experience and a recommendation would be hard to offer.

I’ve been driving by the Curry Leaf for years after trips to the climbing gym, wondering about Sri Lankan cuisine. The woman who served us(and welcomed us, and chatted us up, and kept coming by with plates of freshly cooked somethings even though it was technically a serve-yourself-buffet) told us it was the only Sri Lankan place in LA. And as far as I know, she’s right. Usually, I do not enjoy Indian buffets — this was a treat for my boyfriend, home after 8 months in China and woefully West-Asian-food-deprived. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that the food hardly tasted Indian — it derived its flavors, as far as I could tell, from a background shared also by Malaysian and Burmese food. We enjoyed eggplant strips charred and marinated in a mysterious dry spice, some ridiculously tender chicken curry, spicy tempeh strips, more eggplant, but seedy and mashed almost to a slurry, a bone-riddled fish in yellowish sauce, wonderful yellow lentils that transcended normal boring lentils, and, for dessert, some freshly made yogurt with a sweet syrup that tasted, to the note, like jarred drinking yogurt from Beijing. This was a much better experience than a normal AYCE buffet, because like I mentioned before, she brought out a couple of freshly made dishes in addition to what was on offer, and because nothing tasted like it had been sitting out all day. The bread was hard as a rock, but I didn’t mind because I never eat bread at buffets — too filling, and keeps me from trying everything offer!

Ten-dollar buffet at a tiny hole-in-the-wall. The food had clearly been sitting out for quite some time, but the offerings were of a reasonable quantity. Turns out, the quality of the food was surprisingly good and by no means stale. My favorite was the Pineapple Curry. The Dahl was disappointingly salty, but the sweeter String Beans were good. The deep red Beetroot Curry was irresistible, and the rices were pretty good. They had Chicken Briyani and another seasoned rice I can’t remember. This was a huge gamble, and although it wasn’t the best gamble I’ve ever taken, it’s hard to find Sri Lankan food, and this was definitely not a meal I regret.

KOTHTHUROTIBEEF! this dish is so delicious! it is my first time trying a sri lankan dish and i fell in love. if you don’t know what to order here, you’ll be safe with ordering that. each entrée is made to order. i called in for a to-go order and the lady on the phone said it would take 30 minutes. i didn’t mind waiting at all. i wanted to make sure that im not getting any left overs! koththu is made of roti which is somewhat like an indian bread. it has a mixture of beef, eggs, veggies, and a bunch of spices! i like to get mine real spicy so you have to let them know before hand if you want that extra kick! one order gives you TONS and TONS of koththu! they literally fill up a whole styrofoam box to the top. an order fed my family of four and we still had left overs! with tax the total cones out to be $ 14.13 the restaurant is pretty small. not much to it. they do have a buffet for $ 10 which is served all day. the food looks good but it seems to be sitting out all day. maybe call in to ask before you go so you can ask if it’s still fresh.
