It’s nice that the burgers are from grass fed beef and the Mildred special SOUNDS wonderful. What we received though, were well done patties cooked to the point of having no flavor with lots of thick cut BURNT bacon. And for $ 3.75 the hot dog should have been at least grilled not just warmed out of the package. Fries were just OK. As it was the only dining option there, they sucked us in but next time I will get back on I-91 and go down a few exits to Red Robin if I want a burger.

Its essentially a food truck. But a pretty good one at that. We wanted a casual place to eat — quick and someplace our dog would be welcome. Enter Mildred’s — which has burgers, hot dogs and a few other dishes too(and ice cream). Ordering was quick but the food is made to order so settle down. It’s Vermont time. But the burgers were big and delicious. I would’ve liked mine a little pink but overall, a great value for a big burger. The fries were also big and we enjoyed munching on them. Overall, a pretty good place to stop. It’s a food truck but as long as your expectations are set correctly, it’s a very enjoyable lunch.

Four stars for a roadside food truck? Are we nuts? Yes and yes. Mildred’s is located beside the Vermont Country Store’s Rockingham location, and they really do serve up something a bit better than the usual food truck. For starters, the beef for their burgers is grass-fed, and yes, that does make a difference. It’s better. For another, on Sundays nearby Ephraim Farms shows up with a pig on the cooker, and you can savor a pulled pork sandwich with the freshest possible pulled pork. We love it. They turn out crunchy fries and onion rings here, and their Cokes come from Mexico, which means they use real sugar and not the artificial stuff Coke puts in the American version(you really can taste the difference). It’s a dairy bar, so there are some pretty good shakes available, too. So, what’s not to like? There are some covered tables for enjoying your food, and Mildred’s accepts cash and credit cards. Prices seem reasonable to us: Basic burger $ 5.50 with add-ons $ 1, Dogs $ 3.75, fries $ 2.50-$ 3.50, and $ 4.50 for a hot fudge sundae. Honestly, it’s a much better deal than you’ll find inside the store.

A lot of people were harping on about this place in the reviews for the Vermont Country Store — and theoretically this should be a separate area to review, so thus I added it to Unilocal because all they had was the Weston location ;) We ate here after wandering around the Vermont Country Store for about an hour. Whereas a lot of the stuff inside the store is ridiculously priced, the food here is pretty reasonable and delicious. They have Mexican Coke with real sugar in the glass bottles, which is worth highlighting along with grass-fed burgers and typical burger stand type stuff.(Fries, onion rings, shakes) I got the«fall special» which was sausage and peppers(and onions) on a toasted hot dog roll with fries. It was $ 7 and delicious. The only complaint was that the sausage was a bit dry, but then again, I didn’t add anything to it either like ketchup or mustard… BF got a maple grilled cheese sandwich, I didn’t manage to steal a bite, but he certainly wasn’t complaining about it. Wish I’d left room for a shake/or ice cream — another time maybe. For how busy they were, we got our food rather quickly — although there was some confusion name-wise as someone sharing BF’s name ordered food right before us… so the guy got all snippy when we accidentally got his food.(He ordered pretty much the same thing too. What are the odds?) Overall, it was a nice lunch — the weather was great, so we sat at the picnic tables under the trees. I wish we could have snagged one of the rocking chair picnic tables, but oh well. Cash & Credit(I think I heard rumblings of «we don’t take American Express», don’t quote me on that but be advised nonetheless)
