The prices these people have are absurd. And their algae-​plagued fish tank doesn’t help the décor either. Looked like a sweat shop… They were also rude when I asked them to repeat the price for their sleeve shortening when I thought I had misunderstood what she said. Bottom line– I won’t be using their services because of their prices. It’s too bad for them because I’d be a steady customer if they were reasonable.
And about the fish tank… seriously? Those poor fish look like they’re swimming in pea soup. Disturbing.

I highly recommend Bell Tailors. I have come here to get different dresses taken in, and the work is always flawless. During the fittings she pays a lot of attention to detail, and she listens to what you want for the dress. I have never been disappointed with the results.

My husband and I drive all the way to Towson for our tailoring here and she does a great job every time.
My favorite thing about this place is that she is honest. She will tell you if you shouldn’t get something tailored, even though that will mean her losing business. For example, I brought in an older dress from my closet that I loved but the shoulder straps were falling off. I thought I could just get the straps taken in. I come out of the dressing booth and immediately she says, «oh…too tight.» Ha! Not what I wanted to hear, but you know what? I appreciated it. Some people may take this as rude, but she’s honest. She showed me how the dress didn’t fit right in other places and that if I would have gotten the straps taken in, it still wouldn’t have looked that great and I would be wasting money. I brought it to a consignment shop on the way home and sold it.
She is always very nice to us and chats about the weather, weekend plans, etc. English is her second language so perhaps that’s why other reviewers might think she is rude? I didn’t get that sense at all. She knows what she is doing, I can have a conversation with her and ask her questions about the price and why she is doing certain things, which she explains, and she gets the job done expertly and very quickly. I brought in a bridesmaids dress and it was done within a week, even though I didn’t need it for months. My husband brought 4 pairs of suit pants and those were done by the following Saturday as well.
I guess it can be on the expensive side, so I gave 4 stars for the prices. But I’d rather pay for quality to have something done perfectly. My husbands pants were $ 15 each, so I thought that was good actually. Dresses can get expensive when they have multiple layers and need to be shortened and taken in. One person was there yesterday and I heard her dress alterations were about $ 100, but she needed multiple things done.
Oh yeah! I also love that when she hems pants that she measures and pins both sides, she doesn’t assume that both sides would be the same length like many other places do. I can appreciate that level of detail.

It irks me when people whom you would be paying for their services treat you like you’re wasting their time, yet ironically have no compunction about wasting yours.
I called to ask if they have a machine to put in functional buttonholes. They wouldn’t even try to answer my question, just cut me off to tell me to bring in the shirt. I understand that a preliminary opinion without seeing the item isn’t necessarily something you can honor, but I think that as a professional who works with these materials often, it is a simple enough scenario to give an opinion on. Plus, my question was if you had the machine to do it. Well, my husband’s shirt was with another tailor. If you’re not going to listen to my request in its entirety or to try to give me some useful information, I’m certainly not going to take my business away from another tailor (who just didn’t have the proper machine to do this) to you.
My husband called them back with the same request, and after some talking over her to get his request through, she said she’d ask the tailor. She came back and told him that they don’t have the machine. If she had actually listened to my question initially, she would have told me they couldn’t do it – and there would be no reason to ask me to bring the item in at all.

I have given them thousands of dollars in business. There was no reason for them to shout at me when I told them that their price tailor a coat was too high. They need to remember that they are not the only game in town anymore. Definitely go somewhere else.

Brought a suit in ready to have it tailored, didn’t realize I had no cash. Wanted to go to my bank to pay. Came back and the Owner refused me service. My business isn’t worth their seamstress taking out a few pins.
I’d say I won’t go back, but I guess I couldn’t if I wanted to.

My family and I have been going to Bell Tailors for over 10 years. Alterations are a must for me because of my short statue so it’s nice to find a business that knows what they are doing.
Personally, I’ve taken suit jackets, dress pants, and multiple dresses to them, all which have turned out wonderfully. The staff are knowledgeable and as Annie C and tania t. have mentioned, give you honest opinions and try to save you money (Alice recommended that the taking in the V neck would be cheaper than altering the torso of the dress I brought in). But, in the end, I got the extra fabric slimmed and the shoulders taken up for $ 48, but it is a cotton material and a relatively easy fix at the seams. I have also had more structured dresses taken in which included hemming and slimming, all which made it look a lot better than what it did when I bought it off the rack.
For dress pants, after having the waist taken in, the legs slimmed, and hemmed, the alterations came to (I think) about $ 70. I am so glad that I took those pants in because there was so much fabric in the back, that it was very unflattering. Thanks Bell Tailor.
Also, my friend who was with me, took in 2 pairs of shorts (waist taken in and slimmed via the back seam) and the total cost was $ 44. She mentioned to me how she was expecting to pay a lot more for the alterations.

The gracious seamstress speaks Cantonese Chinese, which is rare in these parts, and recommends just the right alterations and told me to save my money even though it meant one less dress to tailor. I respect an honest business and will gladly return to Bell Tailors.
