Gourmet Express is a tasty, affordable lunch spot in Towson. They’re good at the basics, but what really makes GE stand out from the competition is their inventiveness. They offer 3 specials every day(which they announce on Facebook and will fax or email to you) and it’s usually a creative twist on something standard. There’s usually at least one intriguing choice and sometimes they REALLY knock it out of the park; the Supreme Island Chicken Wrap is a particular favorite of mine. The only bummer is that sometimes their specials are waaaay too heavy to eat in the middle of the workday(e.g., enormous burgers or pulled pork sandwiches). These dishes are more dinner-ish than lunch-ish, but they are not open past 3pm. Nevertheless, I appreciate the dedication to innovation. GE is close to many banks, courthouses and government buildings; come lunch time, it gets PACKED. I recommend getting there early and carrying out; it’s just too busy to dine in comfortably. The staff has always been really friendly and on-the-ball, even during the lunch rush. Price-wise, I usually pay between $ 7 – 10, which is average for the area. They have recently expanded into weekend delivery, but I have not tried it. Definitely give GE a try if you’re in the Towson area during the workweek!
