Stopped in for lunch at around 11:45. The place wasn’t too busy in the bar area where I chose to sit. One table had four people and there was one other person there. I bellied up to the bar and waited quite a while to be approached. Not a good sign. I ordered my food, the Greek salad, and the bartender basically disappeared. My water was empty the majority of the time. I thought maybe she was super busy(although nobody was there), but she wasn’t. On my way out of the establishment, I noticed the bartender just hanging out in the front entrance area talking to either customers or other workers, not sure which. Where I come from, the bartender stays behind the bar. There was a window for the food to the bar, so there really wasn’t a reason for her to NOT be behind there. The salad was pretty good and had plenty of toppings. A cute little place but with the service the way it was, I wouldn’t go back. I can deal with a lot of bad parts to a restaurant, like bad food or bad environment, but poor service is a sure way to lose my business. 2.5 stars

Great place! They have amazing burgers and a great beer selection. Also, if you like fried pickles make sure to order them. Mist places have typical dill fried pickles, here they have a blend of dill, butter, sweet fried pickles. Amazing!!!

There’s not a ton of dinner options in Traveler’s Rest, so I figured it was packed when I came by a few Saturdays ago because of the lack of options. As it turns out, it was packed because it’s a great option! There was quite a wait for a table, so I sat at the bar. Both the bartenders were incredibly friendly and helpful. I got the Mahi Fish Tacos with a side of their cinnamon sweet potato chips, and they were both great!(The tacos had a wasabi aioli that was fantastic.)(It was very loud and overcrowded, but hopefully, that’s just because there was an NFL playoff game going on).

I should have reviewed already so I could be more specific in what I have tried, but by now it is too late. I’ve tried several menu items at Shortfield’s and they have all been really good. The casual, family atmosphere is inviting, it is not too loud and the service has always been great.

That was the most amazing food! We went with a large group of people and there was something for everyone. Salmon over grit cake, pork chop over vegetables, mountain trout, shrimp and grits, fish tacos, kids pizza and kids cheeseburger were enjoyed by all!

Shortfields is literally okay. Service was average; not bad, but definitely nothing spectacular. Beer is pretty overpriced. They have a lot of menu options, but I got to try an appetizer, two of the sandwiches, and two of the sides and I wasn’t overly impressed with any of it. The table ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer and while they were good, I wish they would separate the different types of pickles that they fry. I’m personally not a bread-and-butter pickle fan, and the one I dared to try turned out to be that type. Also, my friend ordered boneless wings but received bone-in.(I didn’t bother with those, but the order mishap was still frustrating for others.) I ordered the Reuben sandwich with french fries for dinner, and my friend ordered a Cuban sandwich. We decided to split the sandwiches, and while both were good, the bottom piece of bread on the Reuben was mushy by the time I received it. The fries were decent — not bad, just nothing special. Another friend ordered the sweet potato chips as a side, and I tried them, but they were much too sweet for my taste. Also, after we got our food I didn’t see anyone to ask for water again, and my glass went empty for a while. I’m not hard to please… but I do need my water glass filled regularly. The food prices were reasonable but to be honest I think if I’m out eating in Travelers Rest I’ll try somewhere different next time.

My new favorite restaurant. Everything I have oresered has been fantastic. Pork chop was phenominal. Incredible meats on the club sandwich. Amazing sweet potato chips. And a great burger too. Beers are over priced, but the food prices make up for that. Service has been great for all my visits. I will visit many more times!

Fish Tacos! I’ve been on a fish taco kick lately, tho they are hard to find. These were really tasty, and different than any others I’ve had, in a good way. Each bite had a different flavor. Savory mahi-mahi, sweet coleslaw, spicy Pico de gallo, maybe some chili sauce? I am not sure what all it was, but it was delish! Savory, smokey, sweet, spicy, crunchy, I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you like fish Tacos with lots of taste and a little spicy, give them a try.

I eat here often, mostly for lunch. Food is top notch. It is more expensive then a trip to Hardee’s but the food is not comparable. Lots of TVs to watch and there is a bar if you want a drink. On Thursday they have unlimited soup and salad.

This place is pretty good! I’ve eaten here several times with clients. My favorite is the Salmon, it is fantastic. The sides that come with it are a perfect compliment. The clients I’ve taken have enjoyed the burgers, wings, and salads. One of the best restaurants in TR.

Ambiance was nice, and wait staff was friendly. Server took drink order within five minutes of us being seated. We were seated right before dinner crowd began arriving. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles with a side of string beans. This was my first time to eat chicken and waffles, so I am no expert at how they should be served. The fried chicken breast was very moist, and very delicious. The coating was flavorful and welcome. The waffles were cut into eight sections(two large waffles cut into quarters), served with a small serving of syrup. While the chicken was moist and flavorful, the waffles were dry and, well, tasted like dry waffles. Perhaps I’ve had to many trips to Waffle House, but some warm butter to compliment the waffles would have been a welcome addition! The string beans were fresh, and perfectly cooked(in my opinion) with pieces of bacon. After adding a pinch of salt to the beans, they were just right. I sampled a taste of my wife’s Thick Cut Pork Chop, which was tasteful, and beautifully plated. The meat was tender and moist, despite being cooked well done, per my wife’s request. The garlic mashed potatoes were homemade, and the little sampling off her plate was pleasantly received by my awaiting taste buds. I did not sample the Shortfields Burger that was served, however it looked delicious. All entrées were photographed, and the photos have been shared along with my review. I recommend this place. Plan to spend about $ 20 per person, including a non-alcoholic beverage, during dinner unless you order a sandwich or burger. Appetizers run between $ 6 dollars and about $ 10 dollars. We didn’t order the fried pickles, however the table next to us did, and they looked tasty.

This place gets points for being one of the only places open in TR on a late Sunday afternoon. I enjoyed the food but from what i could gather from the entrees we tried, it was nothing exceptional for the price point. The location is pretty cool and they have outside seating on the patio as well as a lounge area with some nice couches to cool your feet. The beer was super expensive and definitely caused a bit of sticker shock when I got my bill, but other that that we were overall pleased with the service and quality. Enjoy, Cary

If there were more dining choices in the area, it would be very difficult to give this place more than two stars. The atmosphere is decent and wait staff very happy and friendly. Ample seating outdoors during nice days. The menu was very tame. Food was unprofessionally prepared. My friend and I started with the fruit nachos(salted tortilla chips covered with melted cheese, diced chicken, Jalapenos, diced tomato, shredded lettuce, and an assortment of cubed fruit). Trust me, it sounded crazy to me as well at first. But, the unique combination of salt, sweet, and spicy was amazing! It was a flawless dish and signature only to this restaurant. If you are in the area, this is a must have. Sadly, that’s where the great experience ends. My friend and I both ordered burgers. Both patties were tiny and dry — his was undercooked, mine was over cooked. The brioche used for the rolls were notably not fresh made and were chewy. Fries came from a frozen bag. As for the other menu options, boring! You’d expect a place that serves a superb fruit nacho plate to be more daring and inventive with their choices. You’d also expect them to know how to cook well. Nevertheless, I would venture back into the place — simply to sit outside, speak to the great wait staff, and munch on more fruit nachos!

I love love love this place ! I can go for a quick lunch or have a long lunch with friend to catch up. I am a fruit nachos addict. Yes, I am addicted. I also love the tomato basil soup. The steak is wonderful as is the pizza and burgers. OK… just go and order you will love it … Sometimes you have to wait, that happens at great places but it’s well worth it.

First time to Shortields tonight. We decided to try something new for Pi Day [3/14/15] and we agreed to try this venue in TR. What a pleasant surprise. The dining room was almost full and the front patio was congested. We were seated immediately. Drinks came quickly and we ordered. My wife selected the flat bread pizza… and I ordered the smoked corned beef brisket. I asked for the fries to be crispy and garlic seasoned. What an extraordinarily good sandwich! Perfectly complemented by the crispy garlic french fries. My wife shared a piece of her pizza with me. It was terrific. To top of the meal we split a piece of the peanut butter pie. It was a creamy peanut butter custer filling on a graham cracker based crust. Topped with hipped cream and a rich chocolate syrup drizzle with chocolate chips topping. So deliciously decadent. Between the prompt courteous service, the casual atmosphere, the comfortable country atmoshphere and the delicious food and the clean restroom… this is definitely a 5-star restaurant guaranteed to receive our continued patronage. Thanks for a terrific dining experience.

This restaurant is Tha Bomb!!! Everything is homemade and absolutely delicious! My personal favorite is the southern cordon Bleu, over homemade mashed potatoes and covered in a bangin’ Dijon cream sauce, and collard greens. Like I seriously want to lick the plate!!! The service is great! The food is great! And it’s not going to burn a hole in your pocket! ALLDAY!

Great meal — started with the KC wings. Very flavorful, crispy on the edges, delicious blue cheese dressing to match. Had a burger with blue cheese and bacon and a spicy sauce… was good except that I asked for the burger to be cooked medium, and it came out well done. For dessert shared a chocolate dipped key lime pie, and tried the pumpkin cake. Both were presented very nicely, but the key lime pie was far to sweet for my taste. The pumpkin cake was very good however. Only drank a water and a cup of coffee so couldn’t tell you about their cocktails, but they did have an interesting selection for holiday themed cocktails. The coffee was so-so. Other– waitresses were very friendly, restaurant clean, nice set up, plenty of TVs, nice background music, good vibes. :) Giving a three based on the burger, mine and my bfs was cooked wrong, and that’s a big no no for a restaurant.

This place is awesome! Everything our group had was fantastic. We had the pork tenderloin special wrapped in bacon that was prepared perfectly, corvina baked fish en papillote, shrimp and grits that was very creamy, and a veggie burger topped with pimento cheese. Our server Jasmine, was amazing!!! She was friendly, attentive, helpful, and efficient :). In fact, everyone who works here is friendly. If you’re in Travelers Rest, visiting Furman or the Swamp Rabbit Trail, this place should not be missed. Joe said he is amazed every time he comes here!!! It’s my first visit and I will definitely be back: D

I was visiting from out of town and we stopped in here for a quick mid-day bite and a beer. I thought the atmosphere was casual but welcome and warm on the inside. It was close to my sister’s place, which was nice. Sure, Greenville is close, but it’s nice to have a solid spot right in Traveler’s Rest. The waiter recommended the Fruit Nachos. I’m certain my face gave away my skepticism but we ordered them all the same. Absolutely yummy! Super fresh ingredients. Really hit the spot. Next I ordered a burger. If you’re going to order a burger, go big, right? So I chose the T.R. Jumbo Cheeseburger — bacon and a fried egg? Yes, please. Does comfort food get any comfier? This is a solid spot for a great burger and beer(and, yes! Fruit Nachos!). I just went with my sister, but it would definitely be family friendly. Next time I’m in the area, I would like to come back here and try some of the other items on the menu.(Um, did someone say Chicken & Waffles??)
