My wife and I had the taco special on Thursday. Large portions. Very good food made from scratch. The only reason I give it a 4 star is it was cold inside. My wife kept her coat on the whole time. I will definitely go back again.

We had a fabulous meal at a restaurant that supports the local economy. I had an asparagus omelette and my husband had the eggs and toast breakfast. Both were excellent with homemade bread and apple and cherry chutney. Service was great. Highly recommended!

This was spectacularly bad service and bad food. If you steal a pack of gum from a store you ate charged with shoplifting. If you get charged 10 bucks for a beef brisket sandwich that is nothing but fat you have no recourse. The service was slow and stupid. What sounded like an appetizing beef brisket and sauerkraut sandwich was nothing but undercooked fat. I felt cheated and robbed. I would avoid this place like the plague

We needed to eat on our way through Traverse City and this was closest and at the top of the Unilocal list. We walked in and immediately we were all overcome with this smell of a natural gas. We sat down and looked around and out of 8 tables there was no food out on them and could sense many patrons not happy. When the buss kid came by looking scared and delivering one glass of ice water to a table of 4 we knew we had to get up and leave. Bad, Bad service!!!

We were traveling through Traverse City on a summer vacation, staying at a nearby hotel. We had an excellent meal here. The service was friendly and prompt. All our entrees were well prepared and tasty, clearly made from scratch. Had an excellent pan seared Salmon, excellent Ceasar’s salad with homemade dressing and croutons, Pita Pizza for the kids. Family friendly and reasonable prices. We’d go back in a heartbeat.

I wish I could give this place more stars because the food was very good. But the service really needs to improve before I go past 3. It seems like they’ve just hired inexperienced servers and they don’t do anything to train them or upgrade. I ordered the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese… it was fantastic! I saw a chicken sandwich go past my table and it also looked incredible! I hope they put more focus on the service(I read other reviews complaining about it too) because if they don’t, I’m afraid they won’t be around very long.

Tried MI Grille primarily because it was in a perfect location for me — right across the street from the HoJo where I was staying. Positive: good selection of craft beers, including the hyper-local brew I tried. Negatives: No bread basket offered, or even available. Also: waitress was not all that familiar with the menu — couldn’t answer my questions, which weren’t at all technical. Casual vibe, family-friendly, not crowded(which may be a negative from the management’s standpoint, but was nice for this Unilocaler). Menu not trendy, just your basic middle American fare, but competently prepared. Once the waitstaff becomes a bit more familiar with the offerings, MI Grille may earn another star. Until then — it serves its purpose.

I will be the first to admit that I ALWAYS use Unilocal to try new places, but never write reviews(good or bad). Well, this place deserved my first review… I lived in Traverse City for over 20 years, and this is hands down the best breakfast I have had there. Better than all the«popular places» that you have to wait forever to eat at. We tried the French toast, blue berry granola pancakes, and omelettes, all of which were incredible. If I can make one suggestion of no matter what you get, make sure it has their sausage in or on it. The chef appears to make almost everything by hand, and is very creative… two thumbs up from me! We went during cherry festival weekend/4th and didn’t wait for a table, food was prompt and service was great. My only hope is this review won’t spoil my new favorite spot :)

This place needs to hire more waitstaff because when people find out about it, they are going to be packed. Nestled between the Knights Inn and Country Inn, it is easy to miss this gem of a restaurant. It would be a shame if the owners didn’t do something soon to get their name out because this restaurant has really good food. There are local beers on tap and Northwoods sodas and they seem to have local foods that are in season. My son, in true nine-year– old fashion, ordered the kids mac n cheese. it was very good and they make it with real cheese, not a box. Sundays kids eat free. Wahoo! My other son got the pulled pork on a pretzel bun. It was awesome and served with a generous amount of fries(crispy and salted just right). It was able to fill what we lovingly refer to as his«hollow leg» and he had a couple bites left over that he couldn’t finish. My daughter ordered the mac n cheese of the day. Hopefully this never changes. This time it was bacon, asparagus, and mushroom. Lordy, Lord! I was ready to steal it from her. It was SOOOO good that on my way out I saw a woman himming and hawing over the menu and I told her, «get the mac n cheese of the day. You won’t be disappointed.» Both m&c were served with grilled toast. I got the roasted chicken and Swiss with asparagus guacamole. It was huge and very tasty. It was also served with fries. There was no room for dessert which is unfortunate because they make some good looking desserts in house. The only reason for only 4 stars is because it was a little slow. It took about 15 Minutes get our drinks. But we got there at 7 on a Sunday and there were only two other tables, so maybe they sent someone home. Then, of course, ten more tables filled up. I would definitely go back even if they were this slow regularly. However, after our Jim Gaffigan doppelgänger of a waiter took our order, we got our food rather quickly. The atmosphere makes me think of a Pinterest follower’s wet dream. Wine bottle light fixtures, homemade art work and distressed furniture give this restaurant a charming appeal.

Food was all great. They even serve house made breads and jams. Good service — would highly recommend this place.

Had an amazing meal with the entire family, 16, the breakfast food was fresh, unique, and very tasty! The service staff was amazing considering the number of people and the amount of demands we placed on them. This is a must go to site.
