Without the Northern Express, there wouldn’t be a grassroots voice in the Traverse City region. And it would be near impossible to find out what’s happening in northern Michigan without this weekly newspaper. The strength of this publication is the events calendar and nightlife section. Families, singles, tourists, locals, young, old alike, will find something to do in these pages. The features are very good, though uneven at times. Also, they tend to lean to anti-establishment causes, but if you can overlook that(doesn’t bother me but may others) you’ll still love the NE. This magazine, which is available free from newsstands or for $ 52 for a full year, has little room for improvement. The publisher knows they have a winning formula and they stick to it. But to get to five stars, how about some more intriguing photos from this beautiful region(enough of the bar scene photos of whoever and whoever staring drunk into the camera) and some harder-hitting local features?
