Rays is one of the best sub shops in the Ewing area. Fresh meats and breads. Also sells breakfast sandwiches and platters. Keeps the place nice and clean. My favorite is the tuna fish wraps.

Great food! Got a belly buster Italian sub for dinner and didn’t realize how big it would be but it totally held up for lunch the next day!!!

I don’t know what to say except thanks, Ray’s! I volunteered to get sandwiches for a crew of 13 and my Trenton go-to place was closed. I found Ray’s via a Unilocal search and helpful reviews decided me to try it. Got double foot long sandwiches with a variety of fillings including Cheesesteak and a mozzarella L&T. Everything was great but the Cheesesteak was in a class by itself, so tasty! The order was ready in under 10 minutes too. Just wow! Our crew ate good and felt happy.

Today was the first time I have been so all I had was a hoagie but it was made well. The meat and bread were fresh and not days/weeks old. The guy I work with had one of their burgers and said it was very good. The shop is small and there’s not a lot of seating but the food makes up for it.

I want to call the previous reviewers delusional and harass them for reviewing Ray’s so positively, but I just can’t. There used to be a time where I got so excited because the portions were great and the prices were great. This time was five years ago, unfortunately. I don’t know if they just had a few too many poor experiences with college kids or rude customers that left a bad taste in my mouth, but you get pretty poor service from the moment you come in. Things used to not be like this. I can handle bad service, but the last few times I went I ordered my usual Italian or Turkey belly buster and it came with the same amount of meat as a regular sandwich. On top of this, it was on a large loaf of bread that was stale(one of the times I went was lunch time, so it’s not even like it was the end of the night and I got bad bread). I talked to my woman about Ray’s — all she had to add was that her friend got food poisoning from them 5 years ago. If you spent any time in this shop, that’s no surprise to you. Because of TCNJ and Rider, the Ewing area is pretty flush with other sandwich places. The best one is Tastees in Lawrenceville, just go there and give me a ‘Useful’ vote when you do as thanks.

The place had a damn good panini. Really the guys know what they are doing. The place does not look that good on the inside so it’s just for quick grab and eat.

The subs here are excellent. They are they typical jersey subs with lots of meat on great bread. My favorite cold subs there are the belly busters. The rolls are fresh sesame and crusty. They sandwich is huge and a whole one feeds four people easily. I’ve done catered lunches for work and easily feeds a crowd. They will give you mayo and oil/vinegar on the side but side is never the same. The hot subs are great! Love the cheese steaks and buffalo chicken cheese steaks. Nice and meaty and juicy! May not be tony Luke’s in philly but it works in a pinch. Overall great food!

I just brought home a whole Spicy Italian sub from Ray’s. The meats were abundant but of such poor quality that most of this sandwich has already been tossed. I can only assume that the profusion of Dietz and Watson signs are remnants of an earlier era – the wet, flavorless dreck on my sandwich bears no resemblance to the D&W products I know. I will agree that Ray’s food is cheap, but that doesn’t make it worthwhile. Service was perfunctory, if not downright rude. No return visits in my future…

Yes the shop is small and old, but in Ewing there is no better sandwich shop or owner. The menu is vast, and if you want something different they are always willing to accommodate. The belly buster is a little too much for me, but my employees always look forward to sandwiches from Ray.

EXCELLENT service and food. Sandwiches are the BEST! Try the chicken Cutlet COMBO meal served with steak fries and a soft drink– or 16 oz water and you are in heaven — soooo close to home! YUMMY!

For my review update, I decided to visit the shop rather than to base my review on just the food and delivery. The impression I got, as I walked through the door, was not the mental picture I had based on the menu, food and the previous order’s fast delivery. The shop is very small, with six 2-chair tables used mostly by customers who are waiting around for to-go orders. The shop itself looks cluttered and dirty. Initially, we had tried to order a «belly buster» hoagie. This is their signature hoagie that contains over 2 pounds of meat, and is ideal for sharing. We were told that they ran out of belly busters, code for they ran out of gigantic rolls. I settled on a regular Italian hoagie, and Arlene had a tuna hoagie. There’s no argument that they make a delicious hoagie, but not the best in the area. The prices are reasonable and the service is ok. I took the hoagies to go. No way was I going to eat in. While the visit to Ray’s shattered my illusions of a go-to place as a sit-down eatery, they’re still a 3-star hoagie shop.

Best hoagies in mercer county. Massive belly buster not only lives up to its name, but the price is right.

The steak on garlic(#9) is pretty good, but minus 1 star for the SHADY pricing stuff they have going on. Like another reviewer stated, they add small unwarranted price charges to each item on your order that you might not notice if you aren’t paying attention. In fact I suspected this happened on my two previous visits, which by the way I ordered multiple sandwiches on, so this time when I went in I made it a point to pay attention. The menu board, to go menu and website clearly state that the sandwich is $ 5.50 for a cheesesteak on garlic bread. When they rang in my order, it was rung up for $ 5.99 instead. When I asked why I was charged extra he said, «Because you got it on garlic bread». I then said, «Its called steak on garlic, the #9» and pointed to the menu board where it describes that it is served on GARLICBREAD!!! He then said«Ok, I will only charge you $ 5.50 then.» Like he was doing me a favor. Listen, if you want to increase your prices that’s fine. Write the new price over it on the menu like you’ve done with some of the other sandwiches. Don’t be shady and try and sneak in extra charges assuming the customer won’t notice. Also, two different employees handled my different visits, so it’s not like its one employee who doesn’t know making a mistake. This is something they just do. Fool me once shame on me. Fool me twice.. . Well you know the rest.

Regularly get the chicken cutlet belly buster(with buffalo infused cheddar) and have always been full for the rest of the day. I needed an event catered and no where else offered me such rapid service at a reasonable price. When my sedan couldn’t hold all 24 feet of subs, Ray hopped in his car to help me out in a tight spot. If you’re a student at TCNJ or just a local, definitely worth your while to make the trip down here for lunch.

Rays has always been one of my favorite sub places. Ewing has several of them as well — so you know it’s quality! Their signature belly-busters are a particular favorite, but their hot subs are amazing too. After they switched ownership, they stopped loading the subs up with quite as much meat — but maybe that’s a good thing to make a more-balanced sandwich? They also unveiled their 5 dollar menu — pretty awesome for high-quality subs. If you are in Ewing/Trenton/Pennington/Lawrence. try this place out! You won’t be disappointed.

Great place! I go here fairly often. The bread for the sandwiches is really good and they have a great selection. Prices are pretty good, too. I like that there is a sit down area as well. My favorites here are the Italian sub and the hot pastrami sub.

My coworker hadn’t been in there for a long time but she recalled the sandwiches and subs being excellent. Apparently she had noticed the change of workers there. She seemed to think the place was taken over by some new folks. We were the first inside and she placed her order round 1030−11am It took 20 minutes before she had to ask where her sandwiches were. They were sitting on the counter and no one said anything to us. They got busy when a hand full of other patrons came in at the time the sandwiches SHOULD have been done. All I can say is that if it takes that long to make sandwich, you have some serious issues. She originally ordered something they said they were out of. What the… so how you going to be out of something on a Monday? That’s when you get fully stocked in most places. What a bummer because the hanging wall menu looked good. Just not worth it plus my coworker wasn’t impressed like she used to be about the taste. It will be a strong loss of business before it even begins since the workers in the area are increasing by several with not only my group but the airline folks etc. I won’t recommend. The place looked kind of dirty too. First impression was not good.

Ray’s has pretty good sandwiches. They best in my opinion is the steak on garlic. The prices a fair and is a real sandwich shop, not like the more mainstream chains. The belly busters are really enough for a small family, but worth the challenge. It’s worth a try if you are in the area. Nothing fancy about the regular hoagies, just made well.

I feel super lucky that Ray’s is the closest place for me to get a deli sandwich. I started going here for lunch about six months ago, and I keep going back because it’s really tasty and the service is great. I’m not alone – there always seems to be an odd but friendly mix of people taking out or eating in at the jumble of wobbly tables. The menu is actually pretty big, and includes breakfast plates in the mornings, although I’ve only ever had cold subs. Ray’s has a grill so there are a lot of hot food offerings, in addition to your basic hoagies and subs. The«half» size cold subs are enough for two people, but they only cost $ 4 – 6. They advertise vegetarian options(veggie subs, falafel sandwiches) so if that’s how you«roll»(sorry), you’re welcome here, too. Once I saw a cop eating a cheesesteak platter with fries and it looked awesome. Ray’s serves steak fries(the big flat ones) not the coated crap a lot of places shame themselves with these days. They use hoagie rolls from Italian People’s Bakery, which are pretty good. The overall vibe of the place is pretty homely, but I like it a lot. If I could make one improvement, it would be a fountain RC machine!
