Scenic, relaxed and much better than an average NC winery experience. The Uwharrie Mountains add a picture postcard backdrop to the outdoor tasting area. Zimmerman’s is off the beaten track but worth the trip. We did a tasting and purchased a bottle of their 2007 Cabernet. All of which exceeded my expectations…

In a state where thousands of people judge wine based on which NASCAR team owns the vineyard, Zimmerman Vineyards stands out with great wine, friendly and passionate owners/wine makers, and a view that will make you want to sit and sip wine for hours. Take a trip off the beaten path and do a tasting with Leslie. Our favorite is the blend dry red: Sisyphus. We have tried hundreds of NC wines and the color, flavor, and depth of these wines have no rival. Enjoy!

Zimmerman’s is our favorite place to go with friends, enjoy great wine, and spend a relaxing afternoon. We have been going there for a couple of years now. Whenever we leave we can’t wait to come back. The owners are the nicest people you would ever want to meet. If you are looking for a fancy place, Zimmerman is not that. However, if you love wine(Sisyphus is my favorite), the outdoors, and a quiet peaceful setting with country charm, then Zimmerman is a must for you to visit.

This place was 2⁄3 of the way to an amazing 5 star review. First the owners is one of the nicest women you will ever meet. Friendly charming everything you would want in a person you just met. Secondly their view had me wondering how much land would cost to buy some for myself absolutely breathtaking. They have set themselves up on a great piece of land and all the old amenities just make you feel right at home. Like the well and the animals running around.(dogs, cats, etc) If this place is so amazing why the 2 star review then? Well unfortunately this vineyard falls short in one very big category and that’s it’s wine. I don’t think I have ever tasted anything so foul in my entire life. We tasted there regular 5 dollar sampling not the premium and each one was worse than the last. The only one that was redeeming at all was the very last but that’s because it was they added so much sweetness to it that it drowned out any taste the wine might have had but in the process made it to sweet and still undrinkable in really any comsumption amount. I left my glasses with most of the«wine» they poured still in the glass. I don’t know if it is their process or if their land is just stained from that area being part of tobacco land but every single wine made me feel like I was drinking out of a glass someone ashed into. Atleast me and my gf will have something to joke about from our trip down here. Oh yeh their cat bit me on the way out too

It takes a bit of effort to get to the Zimmerman place — not exactly a winery, because it’s really their house, and the tasting room is a former garage — but it’s probably worth it for the view alone. The wines are solid, if not exceptional, and your host is definitely friendly as well. There isn’t really a tour to speak of, because there isn’t much to see. Your tasting will set you back $ 5, and you can taste the five wines they have available, and you can take a souvenir glass with you. Just don’t expect as much of the place itself. It’s a cool tasting room, but it’s not as expansive as the Childress place a few miles away. Just make sure you follow the directions to the letter, or you might have a tough time finding it. And be sure that you take Highway 64 from Lexington, not Old Highway 64, as it’s a little easier to find that way!
