Was such a peaceful experience. Rip and his team really know what it takes to put together the right atmosphere for a gallery. I will go back over and over Rich Day

First I was thrilled, then I was disappointed. I’d visited this gallery for several years as part of my trips to the the Columbia Gorge and was saddened to see that it closed back in 2011. The thrilled part came in when I was strolling through the Historic Troutdale District and started practically tripping over his life size wildlife statues. But, it wasn’t random. Turns out the gallery relocated just a few blocks from the original location, so you can still see his fine work. The disappointment part is that the current gallery space, which the staff calls transitional, just doesn’t showcase his grand work to the same degree. The gallery is probably 1⁄8th of the former size and can’t accommodate some of the larger pieces. Half of the space is the artist’s studio where he both creates his statues and offers classes to the public. The gallery contains just a small portion of his work and also houses exhibits by other artists in various mediums(sculpture, photography). Caswell’s current subject matter, based on a series of special commissions, is also overtly religious. Not everyone’s cup of tea or chalise of wine. While I will still visit the gallery when I’m in Troutdale, it won’t be as frequent and no longer merits a special trip. The Columbia Gorge itself is the real wow factor.

Great Staff, so friendly and helpful and really take the time to know the art and the collectors. Rip Caswell’s sculptures are worth the drive to see and if you get the chance to meet Rip and hear him talk about his art it is a real bonus.

I had no idea this place was so close in Troutdale, until my fiancée found it on Unilocal while we were staying at Edgefield for the weekend. Great place to taste some wine and check out some amazing art. Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming. The art ranges from Rip’s spectacular bronze sculptures to Ali’s beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry to various photographs, paintings, bells and glasswork. It’s all bigger and better than anything I’ve seen in a long time. I understand this place has a First Friday artwalk, plus other art/wine/food events, so we’ll be back here soon for sure.

Caswell Gallery is a MUSTSEE bronze sculpture gallery if you’re in the Portland metropolitan area or planning a trip down the Columbia River Gorge! The larger than life sculptures by artist, Rip Caswell will take your breath away and you can meet the scuptor himself! Wow!

Rip Caswell is a gifted sculptor. His works tells stories, whether it’s his wonderful wildlife works or his monuments. Powerful images in bronze create indelible impressions. His gallery in Troutdale is a great place to see incredible pieces, large and small, and appreciate his remarkable talent.
