I have been to Jay Jay’s at least half a dozen times but today may be the last time. The food is pretty good. Love the shawarma and garlic dip. The fresh pita bread is amazing. But today I went with a group of fellow teachers and had horrible service! The waitress never wrote down our order and there were 7 of us. Of course someone’s order was wrong and that person had to wait 20 minutes for food. We told the waitress we needed to make it a quick lunch yet we were there about an hour and a half! I reminded the waitress multiple times that we needed the check and had to go. Finally we got in line at the register so she could get the hint. We also saw her on the phone and plating other meals while several guys just stood around. The management needs to step it up and help out. They also need to learn how to accommodate the customer instead of making excuses. We saw some people who hadn’t ordered just walk out. If this place wants to stay in business they better step it up on the service!

The Greek dishes are the wholesome, fresh and flavorful delights I have been looking for, to eat, when I am wanting to think how the Greek islanders would cook and serve a dish. Sophia, she is a gem. Wonderful service and a bright smile was on her agenda. The pita bread was made in an earth oven, in the place,(I saw a man taking them out of the oven behind the counter) and was thin and fresh. The spinach pie was home made and full of flavor, and fat with feta and spinach. The salad was fresh and crunchy with a homemade dressing. The flaming cheese was a good size, and the cheese was hot and filled with the taste of goat cheese, not cow. The rice was long and cooked perfect. Really good cook at night. The garlic spread, served with the homemade pita, could mean no kissing tonight. No room for the large portions of cake or other deserts they have at the front counter. I’ll see them again!

Some of the worst service I’ve ever had anywhere in my life. Super slow, moving people from one table to another. Waited 15 minutes for coffee. After asking for it twice. They didn’t bring a silverware so we had to wait an extra for five minutes of that after we had our food served. Beef Schworm omelette was recommended to me and it was disgusting. The meet was all Tuff and fatty. I asked for my toast to be dry it came buttered. I mean this is one of the least organized most unprofessional restaurants I’ve ever been to ever. I could not recommend it to anyone for any reason. I should’ve went to McDonald’s across the street. On top of that seemed like it was just people walking around not sure what to do. And they weren’t even very apologetic about it all. Just steer clear of the place I wish there was another little restaurant close to my house. Kind a new to the neighborhood so I guess I’ll have to find something else.

First time coming today. Went for lunch & had an extremely good half of a mandarin orange, strawberry & walnut salad with some on the best raspberry vinaigrette I have had. The smoothie paired grand! Later the same day, so impressed with the service and food I went for dinner. The BEST gyro meat, with a large quantity, and the tortilla soup was worthy of an award. Even the chips were class a team. The waitress was very sweet with the dine-in lunch and another just as sweet with the take-out dinner. Added bonus, the menu is VERY large & diverse. A great stop for anyone, of any culture. From breakfast, to burgers, all the way to unique salads to a very berry & thick fresh smoothies for all!

I travel a lot for work and sometimes arrive earlier than the rest of the team. Finding a place that don’t frown on you cause your just 1 diner is hard. As soon as I can in the door here they welcomed me and were very attentive. People that were leaving were commenting on how good the food is, which is a great sign. I had the Mexican soup(loved it). The Caesar salad is great and the pasta was yummy. Found my new favourite restaurant in Troy.

Had breakfast here the other week. Food was very bland and nothing special. Has browns were too raw. The place also seemed very dated and needs some serious remodeling.

We have a saying we use when trying new places. This rates in the ‘one and done’ category. After reading reviews that give a 4 star rating– I start to wonder, am I food snob? We ordered off both the breakfast & lunch menu. All items were mediocre. Hashbrowns in a somewhat raw state, bland scrambled eggs & dry rice with the schwarma dish. Maybe the dinner fare is better? I gave it two Unilocal stars for friendly staff.

Had breakfast yesterday at Jays and yet again it has not disappointed. The food is great and well priced. I had the red velvet french toast which was very tasty. The service has room to improve but my friends and I still find ourselves coming back here. A nice option if you’re around the area. Their lunch and dinner menus are great as well.

Had brunch there yesterday and the food was delicious! If you want something sweet, I highly recommend the red velvet French toast. We used it as a desert after our eggs.

Thought we’d give this place a try for breakfast as we were in the area. Should have driven on by instead of stopping here. To begin — the service was absolutely horrible. Ordered coffee and was never offered a refill! Seriously?!! Empty cup sat on the end of the table(and we were in the booth immediately across from the kitchen entrance! Waitstaff walked by constantly, you would have thought they would have noticed and filled it — but NOPE!). Ordered Jay Jay’s omelette(a Greek omelette) with hash browns and toast. Should have thought this wouldn’t be a positive dining experience when the waiter asked if I wanted the toast buttered — I’ll explain below. My wife ordered cinnamon French toast with fresh blueberry topping. Food arrived(coffee cup still empty) and asked for tabasco. The toast was not delivered at the time the meal was — waiter stated he’d be «right back» with the toast. Waited a couple of minutes to begin eating. Waiter still didn’t return(we could see him leaning on counter at the pass). Eventually, he turned and saw us staring — waiting for toast still. He returned with toast with what must have been a stick of butter on the two slices of bread — seriously there was a lot of butter and the Tabasco. At the time half the breakfast had been consumed. Hash browns were not completely cooked and appeared to be store bought not fresh. After finishing the food we waited nearly 5 minutes for the check. Had to go to the register without the check — the cashier summoned the less than enthusiastic waiter for the check. Overall an unpleasant dining experience on all levels — definitely will not be back.

Great food with great service, me and my girlfriend Michele love it here. We always get the bread with garlic as an appetizer, I usually get the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and broccoli and my girlfriend loves the chicken stir fry

We were up at Beaumont hospital and wanted to get a bite to eat so we checked the phone and found Jay Jay’s Bistro not far, right on the corner of 18 Mile(Long Lake) & Dequindre. It was later in the evening like around 8pm and they were not too busy. The four of us ordered: Beef Tenderloin Kabob, Chicken Kabob, Kafta and a chicken Shawarma wrap. Also got the tzatziki appetizer. All the food was very good and tasty. The wrap on the shawarma is a bit dry because they grill it but the chicken was juicy and good, got fries with it they are kind of batter fried. The kafta was very tasty. The tenderloin kabob was tender and very flavorful. Also enjoyed the pita and garlic dip they brought to our table. Our server was Kevin and he did a fine job. I do agree with some comments that it could use some updating for the décor from the old Big Boy.

My wife and I recently moved here from South West Florida and I was so pleasantly surprised by the food and excellent service here. My wife always gets the Vodka Palomino pasta while I usually get the Greek Salad and Gyro. I can not say enough about the food it is always fresh and flavorful. The fresh pita bread with lemon garlic butter is to die for. Definitely our favorite place in Troy.

We love coming here. Really nice staff, clean and really good food. The palomino vodka pasta is my favorite thing on the menu along with the Fettoush salad. They have warm bread served with this amazing garlic sauce too! It’s our go to place for low key causal dining!

What’s going on?! I go there a lot and pick up food or eat in with my family but today I was disappointed. I travels over the summer and the first thing I got after I was back was a platter to go, it was not as tasty as usually plus I had missing food. But I thought ok it happens, today I went again and your garlic paste is not good were is the garlic flavor, way to much oil and no garlic then you only serve yellow rice, what about the rice noodle mix you used to have and your amazing bread is not amazing anymore. I spend $ 43 on a platter and I expect more for that price. Will I go back? I’m honestly not sure since the last two times I was disappointed.

I had breakfast here today and it was great! Not greasy at all! The service and the food were both excellent. I will definitely be back to try other dishes on the menu.

If you are not in a hurry for your food this is a great place. I have not had a thing here that wasn’t excellent! The service is slow and their not right on top of refilling your drinks, but damn is the food good. If they did a better job with service they would be 5 stars! How can you sell fish and chips and not have malted vinegar?

My mom kept bugging me to try this place out(used to be a big boys) since we’ve never been so I gave in and decided to try it. Jay jays was dead when I walked in– literally just one table of two people and aprox 16 – 20 workers?! The worker to customer ratio was crazy lol I couldn’t help but giggle at that one. Weird part was service wasn’t even that good. They have a lot of mediterranean food options but I was expecting a lot cheaper prices. Everything was roughly $ 10 – 20, while that’s not horrible I was just planning on coney prices, or even more coney like options. I ordered the gyro dinner($ 11) came with strips of meat, a soup or salad, bread, and season fries. It wasn’t horrible but nothing I would run back to. The tatziki was pretty good and the flavor of the meat was nice as well. I think I prefer KouZinas gyro but it wasn’t bad! Fries were pretty greasy and soggy. My dad ordered the shawarma and he said it was dry, although he did like that tj was a pressed sandwich. My sister got the fish and chips and you could just tell it was the yellow box in the frozen section. The food was mediocre but nothing to run back over. (Although I DIDNT factor this into my rating I totally think they should have remodeled it or at least changed the floors! The place was clean but overall appearance was like you’re in big boys still. If you’re gonna charge bistro prices, I’d at least like to feel like I’m dining in one!)
