I grew up eating Kay’s, the greasy burgers are the best and the old diner is a step back in time! I love going there whenever I’m in town

If you’ve made it to this review and you’re deciding where to grab a bite– start driving/walking/flying to K’s right now! I had possibly the best burger I’ve ever had in my life! The friendly service was definitely a highlight. The person who takes your order is the one who makes it, and mine was certainly proud of his work. They use a «wet grill», which I believe is similar to deep-frying. The burger was out of this world: perfectly caramelized patty, so juicy, and the cheese was gooey! The fries and onion rings rule– nice and crispy! I also got a malted butterscotch shake– wow!!! You can EASILY share one shake with two people. The décor seems unchanged since 1935, which lends it that nostalgic charm. Also, they only take cash.

It’s ok, not bad at all, but I think I was expecting more, or maybe I didn’t order right… Solid 3.6 stars that I’ll round up to 4… I was there on a Saturday, late morning/early afternoon, and wasn’t really in the mood for a big breakfast nor a big, greasy spoon lunch(«Then WHY did you specifically plan to go to Troy’s most famous ‘greasy spoon’ joint,» you might rightly ask!!) I think I was hoping they’d have more of a variety, either that or I’m HOPELESSLY spoiled by E. Coast diners! I should have gotten one of their namesake burgers, all very reasonably priced, along with their classic crinkle-cut fries, or maybe have come in earlier for a nice hefty breakfast. Instead, I got an egg and cheese sandwich on toast and«hash browns,» which turned out to be one McDonald’s style potato patty. That and a cup of coffee, and I was out of there for under(whelmed) $ 5.00. Order your meal at the counter, then find a seat at the SUPER authentic, cozy, oooozing old-style country charm counter or one of the booths. If I were a mean, awful person, or actually a living, breathing basket of unfulfilled expectations, I’d keep complaining, but this place is what it is, a wonderful cultural institution that’s been doing what it does(with or without my approval!!) since 1932! Oh, and don’t forget, cash, no credit cards, missy/fella! ENJOY!

I came to Troy to visit a friend and she suggested we come here. I’m so glad we did! I love diners and this one was so cute! I ordered a burger and fries, which tasted delightful. I then had peach pie for dessert and it was amazing! You order your food at the counter and they let you know when it’s ready. Keep in mind that they only take cash. I would love to come back!

Love the burgers. Love the fries. Love the shakes. Love the throw back atmosphere that probably hasn’t changed since the 60’s. Great stop for a Saturday lunch.

I’m dining at K’s in Troy and I’m in love with the place! The food is hot, the service exceptional, and the feel of the place; it’s like a living, breathing, Norman Rockwell painting!

If you love old diners, you need to get here. Breakfast is excellent and filling. Try the biscuits and gravy-good stuff. Hamburgers are the draw and don’t disappoint(don’t watch them fry them up-just eat and enjoy). Shakes and pies are just what you’ll expect to find and delicious. They don’t take debit or credit cards so make sure you bring cash(and you won’t need much).

Downtown Troy was quaint so we were excited when a shop owner recommended an original hamburger shop. Our excitement died as we entered the tired resturant with no charm. I asked if we seat ourselves and was curtly told to go to a booth, look at a menu and come back to order. Then come back to pick up your food. No credit cards accepted. We found only one clean booth. Most were dirty and un-bussed. The hamburger was thin and barely visible. Scant onions and bitter pickles. Fries were run of the mill crinkle cut. The onion rings were good. Milkshake and malt were fine. I wish I could have written a great review but I can’t. Visit and shop in Troy. Just eat someplace else.

I’m 68 years old have been going to K’s since I was a teenager. I am happy to report the place has not changed one iota! Best darn cheeseburgers anywhere. Be sure and order a milkshake. They’re still made the old fashioned way and are served partly in a glass with the rest of the shake still in the metal container. When is the last time you saw that? They’ve been there 80 years and there’s a reason for that longevity. Just love it that some things DO stay the same!

Everything on the menu is really good. Soup is excellent. Burgers and pancakes are also very worth the trip.

This is an amazing gem that has been around forever. The staff was great and the food was really good too, as long as your expectations are for a classic dinner quality meal. They have lots of seating, but only offer counter service, and it’s cash only.

Loved the milk shakes. Service was great. Good burgers. I love these small independent shops over the chain restaurants.

I really loved their greasy hamburger, they have a real meaty taste coming from a thin pice of hamburger meat, their onion rings are just average, service was fast and friendly, I will to say the dining room area the carpet is the dirtiest and worn Carley I’ve ever seen, should of been replaced twenty years ago! Don’t use the restroom ever so scary gross! I will be back to try the milk shake which looked so good! They seriously need to do a big up date!

I gave it three stars, my husband said four. I’ve never been to such an authentic old diner. Pros: food was pretty good Staff was super nice Cons: burgers were almost too greasy … And I like greasy burgers. Cleanliness in dining room was an issue — grossest carpet I’ve ever seen in my life(though cleanliness didn’t appear to be an issue behind the counter) Great milkshake! Big and tasty! Best buy of the meal. Fries=standard Hot dog– good. Came on a hamburger bun which made my three year old chuckle. Burgers= made on a greasy old fashioned grill.

I walked in to place a to-go order and was 1st in line, yet I had to wait 5 minutes to be told«I’ll be right with you», so I busied myself by noticing a few flies scouting for grub. When she came to take my order I threw a curveball by ordering a double-cheeseburger, fries and a coke. They finished the burger right away, and I watched it sit there for 10 – 15 minutes before they brought my fries, THEN they put mustard on my burger and wrapped it… I know it was my burger because I was watching it to see if a fly would land on it. Not a single fly landed on my burger, so maybe the owners have trained the flies. They didn’t give us any napkins or even offer ketchup for the fries, which were hot but not even salted. I will try eating here again in 50 years if it’s still standing for the hell of it.

The place has an yesterday feel to it, but the staff are rather rude. Prices are fair, this was the first time eating here, and it will be the last. It is not real accessible, for someone in a wheelchair like myself. It was iffy just trying to get in the door. There is only 2 tables for someone like myself to sit at. The rest are booths, I had to roll up to the table at a booth, like a foot from the table. Chuck

You know that meme with the girl and the Goosbumps books? Ermagahd or something like that… thats how I feel when I go here. Ermagahd Ks! Yes, the food may not be the best, or good for you. And your soda may be out of a can, and the building is old and a little dusty. But its just the feeling of eating here, time warped and so good.
