What can I say? I lived in Michigan for 27 years and had never been to Shields before. Maybe it was because they ewre a little bit of a jaunt from my family home in West Bloomfield, but nonetheless it was an excellent place to go! My wife, baby and I went with some long time friends and enjoyed a great allotment of bread, salad and pizza. It’s a clean place, very busy but very family friendly. Imagine three younglings ranging from 16 months, 2 years and 5 years of age chowing down happily on some great food whilst the parents are able to enjoy their meals with them. That’s the beauty of Shields. I wish they had one here in Phoenix! If you’re ever out their way, please patronize them. They were wonderful!

Not a good experience today. Very slow no refills in drinks. Not even asked if everything was good. Pizza was not cooked very well, some breadsticks were fresh others were old. Lastly they screwed up the pizza order as well. Will not be back

This place has gone downhill fast! what used to be a great personal pan pizza, now is what seems like a Stoffers French bread with sauce and cheese. Salads are sad looking. Staff seems to have given up.

Great deep dish pizza! Good selection of pizza and other items. Restaurant should be updated so it’s not gloomy. Good service but could be better if they were happier. Miss their amazing host who made us feel like family!

One of my favorite pizza places! My sever Michael was awesome, he was friendly and very attentive. The pizza was great as always and the spinach artichoke dip they had on special was extra cheesy. Much love for this establishment.

One of my favorite places to eat on a Friday night. Prices are reasonable for the quality and the deep dish pizza is perfect. We usually get an antipasto salad, breadsticks, and a large deep dish. This is one of those places where the sauce is served over the toppings. For dessert, they also have hot fudge cream puffs with Sanders hot fudge. :-) As a side note, this is the first place we went as a family after my mom finished her final chemo treatment a few years ago, and the waitstaff was so sweet and kind. A great overall business!

Meh… Dark and dingy. Food ok at best. Patato skins very micro-wavie. Wife said she though the bread sticks were hot dog buns… Bland. Pizza was ok, but was light on sauce. My daughter liked the dart board. :) I dont expect to return.

Shields is usually one of my favorites, but today we ordered carry out pizzas and the round pizza was barely cooked. We had to put it in the oven for about 10 minutes. They put cheddar cheese on the top as well.

What happened here??? I used to love Shield’s Pizza. I moved back to MI after 10 years and the pizza was terrible: almost no sauce(yes, I know it’s on top — I like that). It was like eating cheesy bread with toppings and a bit of sauce sprinkled on top. Plus, the sauce had zero flavor. Honestly, the sauce tasted like pureed canned tomatoes. No basil, oregano, garlic present and definitely zero kick to it, for those who like spicier pizza(and I don’t but any flavor would have been preferable to the bland pie we got). Two pizza loving hungry adults each ate only 1.5 large pieces and threw the rest out because it was that bland. The next night, we ordered from Jet’s because we hadn’t gotten our pizza fix the night before. Yuck.

Great pizza. Got the meat lovers pizza. Service was good and our drinks were refilled in a timely manner. I would return again.

I have grown up on this pizza! My entire family loves this place. I got carry out and it was just as good as if you sat in the restaurant. The staff is super friendly and accomodating. HIGHLYRECOMMEND!

Unfortunately VERY poor customer service is marking Shields down on my book. The pizza was good, and tasty but the service was terrible. I ordered carryout and the staff member was extremely short and terse when taking my order. Then it took my friend walking to the front of the empty restaurant(even though two employees were standing outside chatting as we walked in) to get someone to help us. I got home and even though I specifically asked for ranch instead of marinara(and had it confirmed on my order on the phone) they still forgot it. I should not have to double check that my order is correct. Then when I called and asked to speak to a manager she was rude and terse with me. She said«well do you want to come back and get one» to which I said«I guess but it’s quite frustrating to have to drive all the way back» she then gave me a very insincere«sorry» and a rude«I’ll give you a gift certificate» before she hung up on me. Customers are what keep you in business and treating them like an inconvenience is unacceptable. It was not a busy rush time(as if that would justify it). I was not rude on the phone to the manager yet she treated me very poorly. I won’t be using my gift certificate and I would recommend you choose another establishment because clearly this one does not value you.

The service was good. family friendly atmosphere. Decorations are outdated as some mentioned, but who cares. We tried the large round vegetarian pizza, and it was rich and very tasty, and the spud skins were also good. Will be back again

The detroit style pizza is pretty good here. Crispy crust and good toppings. I also had an order or the cheese sticks which were nicely fried & battered and came with ranch and marinara. Mm! The service was ok, could have been a little more friendly and attentive, but nothing to get fired up about. We stayed for trivia on Saturday night, it was a fun Saturday night. The beer selection has a standard variety. A little leaning in your standard/domestic beers, but even a craft beer drinker can find something worthwhile. A large pizza with 2 toppings, mozzarella sticks, a pitcher or Griffen Claw and tip set us back about $ 50, which was a little much. We didn’t have leftovers. Not from the area and wouldn’t go out of my way to go back — but overall a pretty decent place. No frills, very casual.

I gave shields of Troy three stars because the food is three stars. The ambience is in need of updating, but the service is usually really good. Also they typically have decent drink specials even on a Friday night. We love going there with our kids, because it is a very family-friendly location. Also, Friday nights they have a clown(«Checkers») Who is great and makes balloon animals. if you are looking for a place to take the kids and not worry about them disturbing someone else, this has a great family atmosphere.

The salad is different. I love their antipasto salad. I usually order a family sized for carry out. But lately, they’ve been skimping on me. The box isn’t full, not even half the amount of toppings. Total bum out for a $ 14 salad…

Would have been nice if they would of told us that they didn’t actually have a table big enough for 11 people when we made our reservation. #bullshit.

The food was good and the service was great. I had a «slice» of pizza with an antipasto salad. Both were good portion and tasty. The«slice» was more like a small personal pizza; not your typical slice. It was great. The antipasto came with a lot of dressing, but it was on the side so I just didn’t use it all. The ambiance is a little dated. I would come back for a pre-meeting lunch, but it lacks the sophistication for me to bring customers in. All-in-all it was a good experience.

The last time I went to this Shield’s was years ago. We were in the neighborhood, it was getting late and we saw the sign. Wanna try it?, I asked my wife? «Well there is not a lot left open», she said. So we went. Now I remember why I hadn’t been back in years. I had an Italian Sandwich of some kind. In a word –Blech. My wife ordered a Ravioli dish. She said she could almost see the plastic bag it came out of. It will be years again until I can forget this experience and decide to try again. Of course maybe I will never go back.
