I love Sugar Grove Growers for their large selection of dried herbs and spices. Their prices seem significantly lower than the same spices at Kroger or Wal-Mart. Maybe it’s a «trick» of how they package them. The produce is also often less expensive, though the quality is hit or miss. It’s usually as good as Kroger or Wal-Mart, but every so often things look smaller or have more blemishes or just look like they’ve been sitting around too long. Sometimes you can score deals on fruit or veg that’s still good but nearing its useful life. They have recently started carrying bread from a bakery on The Hill. I haven’t tried it yet, but it’s a nice addition. It tends to be mostly gone by the time I get there. There’s a small selection of canned goods, including some ethnic foods. I haven’t seen much there that can’t be had elsewhere in Troy. I’m all for locally owned shops. Sugar Grove fills a niche and generally offers good quality produce at a reasonable price. I would like to see a little more variety, a little more consistency and more items that are otherwise hard to find in Troy.
