We live in the Bay Area but have a place in Truckee and made a trip to 1882 to enjoy the scenic view, lunch and cocktails. The view was terrific but the lunch was unfortunately very disappointing. We ordered the Taco salad which was very bland and the smoked chicken wrap which had chicken skin inserted in it. It looked and tasted incredibly bad. The server did change the order to a burger which wasn’t satisfying at all either. We were hoping for a nice experience but instead it was far short of our expectations.

Based upon one meal, the pulled pork sandwich, this is an excellent choice for BBQ lovers. Great friendly service, excellent iced tea. Beer batter onion rings, very crisp. Salads look delicious. Next trip, the tri-tip Caesar. Also, excellent play list of classic rock.

I have been to 1882 two times, once right after they opened and again last night. My complaint about the tri tip is the same — dry, well done and room temperature. Last night I added a baked potato and it was lukewarm at best. My drink had more ice in it than my glass of water. I think I’ve have my fill of 1882 and will not be returning. My partner’s plate of chicken was also very dry. The problem, as I see it, is that they start cooking the meat so early and as it sits around, it dries out, no juices whatsoever. Same with the baked potato. Sorry guys, looks like you will never learn.

The server is very attentive. Great atmosphere. Very cozy bar indoors. The outdoors looks like a nice place for a drink and appetizer. This place also is a bed and breakfast. We had the ½ rack ribs with onion rings. The ribs were not too smoky. Which is very good to me. Onion rings were not oily. Our kid polished off her butter parmesean noodles kid meal. Drinks were good. Thumbs up. We will definitely be back again.

Great atmosphere… service was spot on… and the food was delicious! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a selection of bbq, sandwiches or salads… portions were more than sufficient. You won’t leave this place hungry!

This is a really cute, cozy BBQ spot, right on Truckee river !! I had stopped in about a month ago for a beer, and finally went back for dinner!!! Awesome burger & fries, but the people that work there are amazing!!! Super friendly & helpful & I can’t wait to go back !!! My burger was juicy & tasty even though I ask for well done()) can’t wait to go back for some BBQ !!!

I’m from the Midwest, lived about 20 years in Texas, and had to visit California to partake in possibly the best BBQ I’ve ever eaten. I’m impressed.

Finally made it in to this local bar and grill. The server Kat was awesome. The food delicious. Smoked chicken and tri-tip were the favorites at our table. I need to go back to try the brisket. It’s tiny, and it’s not cheap,(think spent $ 30pp) but if you’re a fan of barbecue, you should really check it out.

First of all, there are waaaaaaay better places to eat at in Truckee, especially for what we paid. We ordered a sampler plate with ribs and pulled pork, with potato salad and macaroni and cheese. I was really disappointed with the taste and quality of the food and would never eat there again. The ribs had the texture and taste of ones that were laying around since the day before and were re-heated. They were dry, over smoked, and it was obvious they were not even re-heated on a grill. The pulled pork tasted better and the barbeque sauce was good, but couldn’t save the entire meal. The potato salad was also good, but the macaroni and cheese was questionable. It had a watery cheese sauce that just tasted cheap and was lackluster… boxed mac n cheese is better.

The sampler palate is huge and plenty for two. The ribs are great, the brisket is good, but the pulled pork was just OK. Sweet potato fries were awesome!

The service was very fast and the food was yummy. You got to try the pulled pork sandwich. The building has a lot of history(hence the name 1882) and the atmosphere is great.

The ribs and briskest were too dry. The ribs were too burnt on the bottom but had a good smoked flavor. The trip tip was the best dish since it was nice and moist. The bbq sauce was very good with a nice smoky tang to it. The service was good overall.

Great service, really nice patio view of the river. I ate there late afternoon, admittedly not the best time of day to get fresh BBQ, but the brisket was really dry and served at room temperature. Passable taste, but not somewhere I’d get BBQ again. I’d probably go back for drinks on the patio though.

I wasn’t expecting tons from barbecue in Truckee, but I couldn’t recommend the ribs more highly. Expertly smoked and amply portioned.

1882 bar and grill is an undiscovered treasure. The bar and grill is located at the opposite end of the hotel. Has its own entrance with an old English pub or speakeasy. We came in asn hour before closing thus why the meals were not as I recalled the last time we were here. Baked potatoe was luke warm, the trip tip dry. I had ordered a tri tip sandwich and it casme out as a tri tip measl plate. Waitress asppologized strating dhe was new and not familiar with the entire menu. One of our meals came out 20 minutes later than the rest of our mesls. The waitress told us that since it was a turkey burger it takes longer. I still love this place and will retutn. I as m hoping this is just because we came in late and they were busy earlier.

Disappointing. We ordered the sampler meat which included tri tip, brisket, and ribs. All the meat was dry, crumbly, over smoked and overpriced. We had to keep asking for bar b que sauce to add moisture and all you could taste was smoke. The waitress was attentive and knowledgeable, but the mediocre over priced food guaranteed that we’ll never return.

Wow! So so love this spot! One of the few locations where you can sit on the deck and watch the Truckee River! I was very hungry when we came in and so we ordered several items and each was delicious as the next! I had the sampler meat and devoured the brisket, ribs and Tri– tip– my boys helped too! The mac n cheese was cooked perfectly! Not too much cheese, the kind grown ups like! My son ordered the chicken tenders and fries a normal kids staple. But these were so yummy and not overly battered! The staff was very attentive and always had a smile on their faces! We will be back soon on our next trip!!! Thank you 1882!!!

Solid new eats in Truckee. In the back of remodeled River Street Inn lies a carne centric little bar and resto. THey’ve got a patio area looking over the river and a bar and extra dining room. We sat in the main bar area and decided to split a NY Steak Pulled Pork, mac&cheese, chili, sweet potato fries and corn on the cobb. Everything was solid. I think they’ve only been open for about 3 weeks so the timing wasnt perfect but I think they’ll get there. Super nice folks and I hope to see the menu grow. 4.3 stars
