Bookshelf

Stopped in here while I was in town. Picked up a mass market paperback of Women Who Run With the Wolves and the Secret on DVD for $ 5 in the used section-​score! Also bought a book I’d been looking for by Thich Nat Hahn, Taming the Tiger Within-​a zen way to deal with anger.
Lady running the shop was nice, I think the business may be for sale. Lots of kids books, I particularly liked the section with books about the area. They sell «Keep Tahoe Blue» stickers for your car.

This book store was very clean and the staff were so nice. They helped my 5 year old daughter find a book with several bedtime stories. The only down side is that the used book section wasn’t very organized as far as the titles or authors. I finally found the stephen king books they didn’t have any used. I’m just glad they had almost all of the stephen king novels.

Wow. Love this bookstore. I am a huge ebook fan, having my Kindle and iPad ever handy for reading, but my husband is old school. He ‘eats’ books, so I decided to venture into the new location of Bookshelf, having been big fans of the old store and it’s primo location in Safeway shopping center. One can just see the ‘fall from grace’ of the bookstore when you see the new location being crammed into a small space in the Wild Cherries stripmall. However, that said, one mustn’t judge a book by ithe feel of the store is magical– tiny and packed with good stuff. You just FEEL like you’re about to come onto something fantastic. That, and the ever-​knowledgable and helpful young women who run this shop, guarenteed that I left with 4 books that we cannot wait to crack open and immerse ourselves in. I will try to patronize this store as much as possible, as I want to see it survive and THRIVE in our dear little town…

i used to shop at the tahoe city location when it was still around but have since been buying my books on amazon which can be convenient but does nothing to help local business… after finishing the last book of a particular series i was interested in buying similar books from the same author… i found the books on amazon at a fraction of retail but decided to make the hour round trip to patronize a local business… the new space is smaller than the previous one but it’s well utilized and has a nice feel… after not finding the books i was hoping to, i asked for help at the register… the staff member was attentive and engaged while she was looking up info on the books i was seeking… she eventually told me that they were published by a comic book company and she was not seeing them available from their nearest distributer (or the equivalent)… she happily agreed to take down my information and get back to me when she found out more information, which i appreciated… before leaving i bought a different book by another author i enjoy… since then days have passed and i have not heard back, which is why i’ve only given 4 stars instead of 5… overall, my experience was positive one, i just would have liked some some follow up info…

Great store, great knowledge and very friendly staff. Shopping here once has convinced to never purchase from amazon again.

I never write on Unilocal,but I felt compelled to after visiting Bookshelf. I was incredibly bummed to see the bookstore close by Safeway in Truckee, only to find that they had simply moved to a new location! I spent about ten minutes and purchased two books, one of which I have had my eye on for a while (Orange is the New Black) and another staff recommendation (the Paris Architect), which looks incredible.
I love books and I love helping out independent bookstores. The book recommendations were incredible, the staff friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and the layout was cute and easy to navigate. I picked up a newsletter and a book club recommendation guide on my way out – both of which have great book recommendations. If you love books, and you’re in Truckee, you must stop by this store!

Excellent selection of new and used books, magazines– Lots of books about the Truckee/​Tahoe area, local authors. Children’s books, too.

These women love and know books. Ask questions or for suggested titles. Talk about your areas of interest. This great bookstore cares about the community, reading, and connecting. Absolutely worth stopping in, visiting, grabbing a cup of tea a few doors down, and pausing to select and immerse yourself in a great story.

I know how difficult it is for independent book stores, but I would highly recommend this local bookstore. The help was friendly, we loved their staff picks, and the selection was excellent including a used book area. Carol, the owner, was a delight to meet and her enthusiasm made us want to read every book in the store! She also had a wonderful 4 page favorite book list. Don’t miss a visit to this store on your next trip to Truckee!

I live about 5 ½ hours away from Bookshelf Bookstore in Santa Cruz but when I am in their area (maybe 3 times a year) I head for this store. I am a book-​a-​holic (have over 650 books in my personal library I have not yet read, OK?) and find this staff outstanding. Better than the Indie bookstores in my area.
I alway come away with at least 7 – 10 books recommended by the staff. They take the time to walk with me through their store, pointing out and summarizing, books I might like – after asking me what books I have already read and liked.
They have a long (wonderful) list of books they recommend and it is a free printout by one of their staff.
I just wish I could live nearby and wander their aisles more frequently. Love this bookstore (could you tell?)

Just your average books store, but they have a great selection and the place is well organized. The staff is very helpful!!!

This store was really great and cozy and well laid out. I found all the things I needed on Christmas Eve in about 10 minutes. They have a good and even selection on all topics. Plus they have a staff recommends section that had new and interesting stuff for all types. What a great bookstore.
