Was told to come back going on break, probably because I wasn’t a local, I got better customer service from the shop dog, when you have a business first impression is key to success.

Wow… Amazing is simply the word for it. First off: the sign doesn’t say«the loft» anymore outside, so if you’re like me and will follow your GPS off a cliff like a lemming, then don’t spend 10 minutes wondering if you’re at the right place. Second: exactly what I hoped for out of a barbershop. Friendly dog while you wait. Kelly takes walk-ins, and I scored one with less than an hour before close. The owner was there too but was with another customer. After the kid ahead of me gets finished(and a nice cut, increasing my confidence), Kelly welcomes me over. I sit in the chair, and tell her I want a dramatically different haircut than the one I currently have. She sounds surprised, and gently asks what I want to make sure I’m not throwing around terms I don’t understand, but in a very respectful way. She starts cutting with confidence, and I reveal that the last barbershop I went to and got a similar haircut, I ended up with a bad cut, a slice above my ear with a straight razor, and surly attitude. After I remark on this, the owner asks«wait, an actual cut?» And I tell him yes, blood and scab and all. Both are incredulous, and we engage in a conversation on the art of cutting hair. Kelly does an admirable job cutting, evening out, and chatting all at the same time, as does the owner. The entire experience seemed over before it began, but the clock said a decent interval had passed. They managed to assuage my fears of a repeat, give a great conversation, and made time fly. And the haircut was exactly what I wanted, even though all I said was«stylish but conservative» and when asked for specifics«whatever you think looks good». Oh, bonus points: After I got done, I went shopping at a grocery store, and had both a woman and man flirt with me, not 15 minutes after I left the shop. No joke. I literally can’t remember thinking this much about a haircut I’ve received in years(except for the negative one).

Great haircut. Great conversation. Old school barbershop. Just right. It’s up the stairs in the heart of old Truckee. I highly recommend.

Have been coming here the past few times I’ve cut my hair and always leave knowing I have a good cut. The Loft is directly above Pastime Bar with a great view of Downtown Truckee and marked with the barber swirl pole in front of the door so you can miss it. Just make sure you call ahead of time!

I had an unexpected business trip come up while I was on vacation in Truckee and needed to get cleaned up. I called for an appointment and Allie(sp?) answered and offered me pretty much anytime with her or Bob. She was ready for me when I arrived, having just enough time to give the shop dog a few skritches and pets. Allie did a very nice, thorough, and non-rushed job. I have a beard, and frankly, I think that’s the hardest part of my cut, and she did a great job thinning it out, making sure the length was what I wanted, and getting a crisp, line. I’ll be sure to plan my trims to coincide with my future travel to Truckee.

Great haircuts, great service, pleasant people. The Loft Barber Shop in downtown Truckee is the only place I go to get my haircut in the Sierras. Free parking in the town parking lot off Donner Pass road, just down the street, east of the Beacon gas station.(Less than 500 feet, a pleasant 2-minute walk.)

Best place to get your haircut in downtown Truckee. The conversation and atmosphere is great and the price they charge for a haircut is definitely looking out for the local. Keep up the good work !

Can’t go wrong here have had Bob cut my hair a few times. This last time Bob was with someone so Dana steeped in. It is safe to say that I have a tough decision next time on who cuts my hair! Reminds me of going with my dad to his barber shop such a great place and great prices!

This place is solid. The atmosphere is classic barbershop mixed with a rustic hipster feel. We are up here on vacation and needed my haircut. Bob did a great job at a reasonable price. Dana looked like she knew what she was doing too. Very pleased!

Bob’s shop is a cool old loft above old Truckee, his attention to detail is «old school» but he’s fully new school. And he’s a super cool guys. He’s also got a little refreshment on tap, which is a nice bonus. All that and the price is only a few bucks more that a crappy hair cut at super-mega-cuts.
