Great staff. Super clean bathrooms. Gorgeous setting.

I agree with the first review, the campground is not that great. We reserved two sites, to have enough space. The ground is gravel(no grass) and you are way too close to the other sites. I would not recomment the campgrounds.

Please be aware that this review is for the CAMPGROUND only of Taughannock Falls State Park. The day use/hiking/swimming area is a different entry group entirely. Camping here was pretty miserable, especially when compared with the numerous campgrounds which are vastly superior. The campground is very nicely maintained. The staff is courteous, and the ranger makes frequent rounds of the area. The area is nicely wooded, though, there really isnt enough space between sites for my taste. The tent campsites are located downwind and waaaay too near the RV dumping area. As a result, the campsite smelled pretty consistently of raw sewage. If you camp here, only consider sites 19 – 49, on a separate loop, further from the dump area. The entire campground is just off NYS rte 89, and the constant flow of truck traffic, even at night, means that it is rarely quiet. Our site was rather rocky, and we bent two pegs getting the tent up. Finally, though we booked a specific site, when we arrived we were told that the family on that site had decided to stay extra days, and we had been moved. As a childless couple in our 30s, this wasnt a huge deal – but it sets a bad precident. Suppose we had a child, and deliberately picked our site to be close to the playground – so we would watch the kids while we worked? Now, people who had changed their mind last minute could mess up our trip plans! I have camped in NYS parks before, and decided to extend my trip – and it was me who had to move to accomodate the people with the reservations – as it should be!
