T &T’s varnish is a godsend. I have applied it on my unfinished cedar wood, Bonneville thermal door and my new construction, unfinished mahogany framed Trimline windows. I used four coats each, one coat per 24 hours with absolutely no heating of the oil involved. The finishes are deep, rich, dark, and enhanced. Each coat has a strong odor. A reversible window fan in the offending room should take care of the problem. It’s also«green» in that it’s sole ingredient is pure flaxseed. No metals or artificial dryers. A few warnings. It’s for interior use only. It will not last that long on exteriors unless it is topped with a exterior application. I am working on that now, the problem being I am looking for a decent«green» exterior app. Supposedly pure varnish never dries. At least for a few months, and sucks in dirt. I have not had this problem. I do notice that my wood is getting darker but it’s not a grungy dark. Like I said before dark and rich. You must screen each coat lightly after 24 hours to get rid of the bumps. In NYC at least I haven’t found a dealer so I either have it delivered which cots a little more, but more importantly can open during delivery, especially if handled by an apathetic ox, or you must drive up to Ithaca like I did and pick some up. T&T also makes a varnish beeswax mix, also green. I tried it but it was too light for my taste However, I discovered, being a amateur at this, that successive coats makes a subtle darker look. I intend to use both varnishes on my new floors when I have them installed.
