Our daughter has been taking classes at JTSD for over 4 years. The quality of dance instruction, the warmth of this community, and the standards of the studio have made this activity about the best I can imagine for our young daughter. The teachers are all highly skilled instructors, keeping the best interest of the students in mind, as they train them for excellence in dance.

I’m no ballet expert, but my sense is that this school is good for serious dancers. This is not for fun, they seem to want to develop professional dancers, which is both good and bad. The facility however is less than ideal and I found the owner to be obnoxiously pretentious. She takes every opportunity to scold both parent and student. Perhaps a bit more tact would bring another star or even two. My daughter however likes her classes and is learning a lot.

Our standards are very high for our daughter. We transferred from a nationally known ballet school and have been very impressed by the level of instruction at JTSD. The teachers are kind and caring and the Royal Ballet Academy standards are designed with the child’s health and safety as a top priority. You won’t find kids on point here until they are ready and that has been verified by a doctor. If you want to know more about JTSD, I suggest you go watch one of the performances they do with Northwest Dance Theater on PCC Sylvania. You’ll be blown away with the quality and professionalism of these amateurs.

My daughter did a summer intensive at this studio in 2012& we weren’t impressed. Maybe coming from The Portland Ballet our standards are high. The studio felt unorganized and run more like a community recreational center program not an advanced ballet academy.
