We were at the Tubac Art Festival for the day, and really wanted to try the Wisdom’s in Tumacacori, but they were closed on Sunday’s :(, we tried the one in Tubac right in the village, and it was still good, we got a carne asada burrito, along with chips, and salsa, and a peach fruit burrito all to share. All of the food was very good, the tortilla’s were fresh, the meat was flavorful, and the salsa had good flavor and texture. The fruit was sweet and good — it tasted like peach apple pie. There was live guitar music playing out on the patio, and service was extremely friendly even though the restaurant was very busy. It was pricey, but to be expected in this area. A Sonoran Hotdog for 10.00 is a bit much. It was an enjoyable experience, and I’m more excited to try the first one in Tumacacori now :)

Took the family out. Pricing is indicative of the overpricing of the entire area. Sloppy presentation… dried out nachos, over stuffed burrito’s which fell apart, watery salsa and flavorless fish taco’s. Friendly staff with a clean setting! Environment is pleasant! Beer is cold!

Counter service for tacos and tamales and draft beer and ice cream. Tucked into the twinkle lights of Tubac. … this is about when you realize the only things you really want are beer, ice cream, tamales, and tacos. Maybe coffee. There’s one of those next door. The place is little, and cute, with a stuffed rooster over the beverage case and milagros on the walls. Told you it was all you needed. Food was good, if not amazing, though the salsas and cremas were what stood out to me as accompaniment to the calabasitas tamal and the tacos(of which you have many choices: chicken, mahi-mahi, and a couple options of cow and pig) and burros, etc. The menu has all the staples you’d expect. If you’re satisfying the craving for Mexican food along with your shopping and browsing in Tubac, you’ve found a consistent thumbs-up.

DOS! A second restaurant run by the Wisdom’s of Tumacacori. I’ll tell you about Wisdoms in a review of that restaurant which is located in Tumacacori a mere 3 miles down the road from Tubac. Tubac is a small artsy town approximately 30 miles north of the Mexican border at Nogales. Tubac has many galleries, craft and jewelry stores. But few restaurants. Restaurants open and restaurants close almost as fast. This is a seasonal town and you’ve got to plan for the off season when most businesses, even the artsy ones barely make enough to «pay the rent.» Wisdom’s has been family run for several generations. Currently owned by Herb & Irene Wisdom who are still active in the day to day business… But turned over the routine management to their son Cliff and daughter– in-law, Celeste. IAnd I believe there other son manages the kitchen. I believe it was Cliff & Celeste(hope I’m not wrong) who came up with the brainstorm of opening DOS, a small lunch only restaurant with mostly outdoor seating. They have umbrellas and heat lamps for cooler days And there’s a fair amount of indoor seating. They now have a full liquor license and serve their famous margaritas. YOUGOTTATRYTHEM. Herb once said, «If you’re going to make a drink, make a Drink.» Their menu has grown a bit since they opened. Great Mexican food … All the usually stuff plus Sonoran hotdogs and good old fashioned American beef sliders. Also have a number of beers on tap. If you venture to this part of the world(a Midwestern snowbird location) you’ve got to go here. You won’t be sorry.

Mexican food is every where in these small border towns. Dos was stumbled upon when we discovered their other location Wisdom Café was closed on Sundays. Dos is the owner’s second location! It’s fairly small, three low tables and five high tables are inside while the patio area lends to more seating. The menu is confusing but I eventually found the mahi mahi tacos! They were amazing. 9⁄10! Spicy sauce is served with them and the fish is grilled. I was sweating from the heat of these amazing tacos. The rest of my party was not satisfied with their food unfortunately. My husband got a vegetarian burrito but didn’t realize it meant it was only filled with black beans(our mistake from not reading the menu). For the four of us it was about $ 70. Really tasty habanero salsa! There was a man playing music which was pretty sweet. I’d go back for a quick bite but not if I was looking for a traditional restaurant.

Fans of the original Wisdom’s might be underwhelmed with it’s little sister restaurant ¡DOS! but I think it is exactly what was needed in the Tubac village. It’s perfect for grabbing a quick bite to eat without having to take too much time away from shopping. You order at the counter from a fairly limited menu consisting of mostly of tacos and burritos and then the food is brought to your table lickety split. There is not a huge amount of space inside but they also have a nice relaxing(and dog-friendly) patio. When we went I ordered the three taco plate. The carne asada and birria tacos where very tasty but the fish one was no bueno. My mom ordered the chicken burrito and she said it was good but it didn’t seem like there was anything else in there besides chicken. Their salsas are pretty tasty so that helped. I guess I would say the food is probably only 3 ½ stars but what pushed them up to four is their awesome beer selection. They had a bunch of craft beers on draft, mostly from local breweries in the Tucson and Phoenix areas. And they had a pretty decent selection of Mexican beer in bottles and cans, too. And they also make a mean Michelada as well. Mmmm

The food was fresh, they had meat, vegetarian and vegan options. The service was good. I would go back but first I would try some of the other Tubac restaurants. Give it a try for a quick and yummy bite to eat.

Visiting AZ last week and stopped at the Art Festival as well as DOS! Good choice by my hostess. Best Michelada I ever had and she agreed and she does not like beer! Loved the fact I could choose the beer that went into it. Also the food was most delicious. Street tacos and a tamale — would return in a minute! As far as pricey? Might be a tad bit more than it could be but it is worth the money you pay. No regrets!

Authentic fresh Mexican food and craft beer– a great way to experience the area. Healthy and indulgent options! The staff is invested in a great experience for you. Just be sure to get there before the night time, they don’t stay open late.

Tortilla soup was way too salty. Not at all what I’ve had at other real Mexican restaurants. No flavor to broth except salt and an odd seasoning which wasn’t cumin. Just tortilla strips, cheese, and salty broth. And $ 10.00 a bowl. Wow. Beef burrito was very tasty. Friend had chicken burrito that only had chopped chicken inside… nothing else. Overall, I would never go back. $ 37.00 for two lunches. Beer on tap was just not good. No need to try this one… just not worth it if you know real Mexican food.

We popped in for a quick snack while wandering around in Tubac. It is pricey for what you get but the tacos we shared were tasty and made in a Mexican style. Okay if you want something quickly and aren’t starving for a big meal.

Well I can see what they are trying to do … a little quick eatery for shoppers in Tubac. I would advise against eating here. It is rather expensive for what you get. Walk across the street to Tubac Jacks for decent food.

Outstanding, high-quality food. We had the street tacos with Birria and Carne Asada. The tacos were stuffed with meat. The Birria is a slow-roasted brisket in chipotle and is amazing. Additionally, we had the green chili and potato soup. Perfect for a cool day. It may seem a little pricey, but we think it’s worth it.

Dos is a small restaurant/bar that we stopped into one evening while in town. A great stop for tacos and beer or wine. We tried several of the tacos and all had quality meat and good flavor. Not a huge selection of food and drinks, but a little something for everyone. Friendly staff, cute décor, and a nice patio. A place we’d definitely stop in again!

For a longtime Wisdom’s fan, I was very underwhelmed with Dos. The location is good and it’s pleasantly decorated but that’s about all that is good. We decided to try Dos for lunch a few days ago. The food prices are high for what you get. The menu was just ok. The service was poor. It was a cool day and we sat by the door — three different people that worked at Dos propped open the door and we shut it each time, finally letting them know to please keep it shut. We asked for a couple different things and never got them. Overall my family & I were disappointed and don’t plan to return. We wish the owners well with this newest restaurant.
