Server took my order and never checked on me after dropping my food off. Only time I got a refill on my tea was when she dropped my check off and I had to ask for it. Food was mediocre. Got the bbq pork sandwich with mac n cheese and the Brunswick stew.

Came on a cold night, really wanted some barbeque I was in the area and this restaurant was the first to pop up. I saw the ratings so I decided to try it out. I placed a to go order for a pulled pork sandwich meal with a side of Mac and cheese and baked beans. My order came really quick, looking inside the bag I was really disappointed with everything. The sandwich didn’t have a lot of meat on it and was just thrown together, the sides are reeeeallly small. The beans were good but the mac and cheese was really bland and didn’t have a good taste.

Old and cold. Food was served cold, no seasoning, burned cheese in the casserole and the Mac and cheese had 0 seasoning. Food took 3 minutes, yes, 3 minutes to come out. That was the first flag. Service was good and the waitress was nice. But… We left hungry. That was an expensive lesson… $ 23.88 to learn that we will never eat here again.

Some of the best BBQ I’ve had, period. Been all over the US and Hickory House is elite. This place is a hidden gem just outside Atlanta. It’s a classic and worth stopping at. Brunswick stew is unreal.

Best BBQ in the south! My family come and I come here often… It’s been here since my mom was a teen and I remember coming after church when I was little. Must must MUST try the Brunswick stew!

A little dumpy on the atmosphere but you can’t beat their home cooking and friendly service. Very accommodating if you need dietary switch ups, like all omelets can be done with egg whites. They truly have the BEST biscuits. If you want to go full on southern… get the brisket omelete. get the choicest cuts earlier in the morning inside your eggs.

Very solid barbecue. Definitely go to place if you in the neighborhood. The food comes out fast. The service is nice. In fact, the food comes out so fast that there’s no reason to stuff for some unhealthy fast food. It’s definitely got it’s faithful customers too. I typically get either the chicken sandwich or half of a chicken and collard greens. Very healthy and tasty. I’ve also stopped in for their breakfast and everything is really good. Their coffee is fantastic.

My family stopped here in hopes of a country breakfast, and we were not disappointed. Definitely has a small town feel to the place while in the midst of bustling A-town. I had the bbq omelet specialty, and while I probably wouldn’t order it again I’m glad I tried it. My wife and son each ordered traditional eggs and bacon platters and really enjoyed them. The biscuits and big and fluffy. Service was on the spot and personable. We will come back.

We were greeted by a very friendly and outgoing hostess, getting me excited for the meal ahead. We had the option for both lunch or breakfast. When our waitress arrived her enthusiasm and knowledge did not match that of the hostess. She incorrectly told me which veggies were cooked with onions. I have an allergy, this is a big deal. I ordered a sandwich meal, and it came with 2 sides. I had yams and black eyed peas– though I was unable to eat the peas. The BBQ is ketchup based. Pretty good. I’ve eaten a lot of BBQ, but as a Carolina girl, never the red sauce ketchup kind. The BBQ was not over sauced, but I’d have liked a little more meat on the sandwich. My friend had the sandwich as well, but with black eyed peas and Brunswick stew. He said it was very good. This place has been around for ages, and is clearly a bit of an «institution». I’m glad I had an opportunity to try a meal.

Went there for the first time today with the boyfriend. I had scrambled eggs, link sausage(kind of like a kielbasa) with a side of gravy and a side bacon. My breakfast came with two big fluffy biscuits. They were so light and delicious — especially with the gravy! My boyfriend had grits which looked like it had the perfect consistency and a fruit cup that had apples, strawberries and grapes — all of which were fresh. Our server was an older lady with a very sweet smile and demeanor. They supplied a ton of butter and jelly. There was nothing to disappoint. It was relatively inexpensive(with an unsweet tea and OJ, still less than $ 20). They had plenty of parking and service was quick. I will go back and try something else. Their breakfast menu had plenty of options. My boyfriend says their country fried steak is really good — so that might be my choice next time! Yum, yum!

Periodically, I’m looking for a place to grab some food near my office. A few of the typical chain restaurants are around but I regularly passed by this place. A woman in my office raved about it, so I decided that this would be my stop this morning to pick up some breakfast. I’m so glad I did! The food was amazing and you just cannot beat the smell of the hickory wood burning in that place. On my next trip, I’m looking forward to trying the barbecue. I also picked up a pint of baked beans. So good!

Since the 50’s I’ve loved the Old Hickory House they are in this tucker location serving classic que and stew. I love the pork platter half inside, half outside. Don’t be put off by the décor, this is a classic barbecue joint. Oh and finish off your meal with the banana pudding, it’s truly just like mama used to make.

Stopped here for breakfast. Country ham and steak were great. Did not care for the gravy. Biscuits are light and fluffy. Very fast service. Plenty of seating and we wee seated fast on a busy day. Plenty of parking. Check out is fast. Prices are reasonable. We will definitely be back to try the barbeque!

New to this area I ate dinner here based on the reviews. I ordered the baby back ribs as the menu stated it was«most popular». I also order the Brunswick Stew and cole slaw. This food did not represent any of the reviews I read here. The ribs were tough as nails and didn’t taste fresh. The sause was not pleasant either. Nothing about this place was good. I overheard people sitting next to point out the cook and mention he has been there for years… Maybe the owner should send his cooks to the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School just down the road from this place. I probably took 3 bites of each and asked for the check. I could tell the waitress looked perplexed when I asked for the check bit she didn’t enquire about how the meal tasted. Although I didnt eat much it stayed with me for a few hours, and not in a good way. I wasted $ 20.00 on this meal. Evan while at the cash register they didn’t enquire about my meal. I won’t return.

The t-shirt said, «Put some South in ya’ mouth.» And I was like, «Yes, Ma’am!» This place feels like a slice of the old south. I don’t really know why. It’s got«tradition» written all over it. And yet, it is an exercise in simplicity that you don’t see much of elsewhere. I had the beef plate with a side of slaw and baked beans. The beef was sliced and arranged nicely on the plate, with the barbecue sauce on the side in a cup. I would prefer to see more barbecue sauce options available, though I can see how dispensing one sauce in a cup does cut down on overhead. And the beef was good. It really didn’t need the sauce. The coleslaw was outstanding, and the beans were delicious. Almost like a chili. They were good enough to be desert. Easily my favorite part of the meal. I’ll go back to put some more South in my mouth. Holler if you’re coming with.

From outside to inside and in every dish this place satisfies! Went for breakfast, wanted to go back for bbq lunch! This is a walk back in time to a southern bbq diner full of families and friends. A hot basket of huge perfectly fluffy crispy buttery biscuits is delivered to the table as you wait… I had the sugar cured ham with two eggs over medium, it came with white sausage specked gravy on the side as well and I dug in the gravy with the biscuit before the server took his last finger off of the plate. Coffee pot for every table! Will definately go back …

The old in Old Hickory House could refer to several things. It could be the clientele. I dropped the average age by about 15 years when I walked in on a Sunday night and I’m no spring chicken. It could be the ramshackle building that needs some rehab and serious cleaning inside. Or it could refer to old-school, the tried and true methods of smoking meat and the traditional sides. This once prolific restaurant(Cowtippers in Midtown was once a Hickory House location and where it gets its rustic, chunky wood décor), has seemingly fallen prey to newer bbq restaurants. Which is a little surprising because they do many things right. The meat in my chopped pork plate had a nice smoky flavor. And, my ultimate barometer for judging barbeque restaurants, Brunswick stew, was spot on. I like a thick stew full of diced tomatoes, corn and shredded pork and this fit the bill, not the thin gruel that passes for Brunswick stew at other restaurants. There’s a long list of sides that will satisfy most diners. I opted for squash casserole. Try Old Hickory House. It’s a bit of a throwback but I’ve found a lot worse in Atlanta.

This actually deserves the fifth star for five things that they do to perfection: 1. Consistency. I’ve been coming here since1967 and have NEVER had a bad meal. 2. Service. The most difficult area to make perfect. Maybe once or twice I was served by someone in a bad mood. Almost always delightful. 3. Flavors. To me the Brunswick Stew is a perfect blend of spice, smoke, meatiness, heat, etc. 4. Health. Some BBQ places overcome dryness with too much grease. The OHH uses lean meats cooked perfectly and served without any adultrations! 5. Value. Other places hit your wallet with a viciousness because they don’t expect you to come back. I left Atlanta 30 years ago but come back here several times on every return trip. Their value makes for lifetime relationships. Makes me wonder why I ever gave any other restaurant five stars.
