This is the first review I have ever written on Unilocal,but seeing E.F.‘s terrible review has prompted me to submit this «counter» review. I will not go into detail, but suffice it to say that Trudy Post Sprunk has been beyond good working with my teen. I cannot comment on her play therapy approach which is one of her specialties, but I can attest to the positive results my teen has achieved as a result of her general counseling talents. Yes, she is incredibly busy. Yes, she is pricey since she does not take health insurance, however, in my opinion she is worth every penny. Trudy was recommended to me by a friend and I had one of my friends (who is also a counselor) look into her background and credentials. I was told she is «the real deal» and our experience has certainly borne that out as well. I highly recommend her.

E.F.‘s post says more about E.F. than it does about TP-​S. Since he or she cannot control the therapeutic process, he or she attacks the therapist. TP-S’s honoring of the confidentiality of the therapeutic session is what has made it work for our family. Sure I want to know what my child is saying but if he knew that TP-​S was simply going to report back to me what he said, he wouldn’t do the work he needs and that WOULD be a waste of the significant fee she charges. Significant but not out of line. As afar as watching 25 year old tapes — so what. The information is useful and still timely. I have watched them. Feeding the kid candy? Maybe not my way of doing things but the bottom line is, «Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?» I would rather my kid have access to candy for an hour a week and do the work he needs in order to heal than worry about 1 hour a week of too much sugar.” EF is looking for an expert to help his or her child and then insists on telling the expert how to do their job. Really?
All I can say is that TP-​S is an excellent practitioner who has my complete confidence. Working with her has transformed our family. (Yeah, her answering machine is a pain but it only what professional standards require. Anyway, it doesn’t hurt MY feelings, sorry about yours).

Trudy is as good as it gets in the field of play therapy. As opposed to the below review from E.F., I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt that Trudy Post-​Sprunk is as skilled as they come.
The only thing that I will agree with in that prior ridiculous post is that Trudy is insanely busy and booked solid. That, in itself is a testament to her effectiveness.
Let’s break down every point in this E.F.‘s childish rant:
1) «This woman should not ever be licensed» — E.F. couldn’t even comprehend the level of licensure and certification this woman has attained.
2) «She talks about not asking the child what’s happening» — understand that play therapy is not traditional «talk» therapy. Children do not verbalize the way adults do and their «language» is play. What a play therapist does is analyze that play in order to gain theraputic knowledge on «what’s happening.» A kid may draw a picture of their family but daddy’s in jail or mommy’s drunk, etc. Just know what you are talking about first.
3) «Parents watch 25 year old outdated VHS tapes in a separate room during the sessions» — those tapes are designed to show you techniques to use in order to assist the child at home. Would it have been better if they were on BluRay or would you still be in that same room with the same attitude that probably got your child in this predicament?
4a) «NOTHING’s OCCURRING» — weren’t you in the room watching outdated VHS cassettes just two sentences ago?
4b) «Trudy feeds him/​her candy» — weren’t you in the room watching outdated VHS cassettes just two sentences ago? I know for a fact that Trudy does not feed the children an abundance of candy. That is a lie.
5) «A hefty check at that» — you’d better beleive it. It’s just a shame that the vast majority of children who need these service do not have parents who can afford them. Trudy, along wiht many other specialists in the field, does not take insurance, medicare, or medicaid.
6) «Listen to her offputting/​superior answering machine message. It’s a litany of what you can and cannot do» — No, YOU listen to her answering machine… it’s a litany of what you CAN and CANNOT do. It also falls right in line with the American Counseling Assiciation’s code of ethics. That e-​mail from her husband advises you that her (along with the vast majority of counselors) will not communicate via e-​mail. E-​mail IS NOT CONFIDENTIAL and I’m sure you want to increase the posibility of someone else possibly finding out your child’s issue.
7) «I’m sure this review will be removed by Unilocal as their filtering is horrendous» — Sooooo, you hate Trudy AND Unilocal but you’ve solicited both?
I have done a severe amount of research on Trudy Post-​Sprunk. I’ve spoken to her personally and asked a «litany» of questions, all of which have been answered thoroughly. I’ve checked out her reputation and her effectiveness. I’ve read parts of her book. I’ve even spoken to another parent who’s child has been successfully treated by her (and who is very upset after reading E.F.‘s review since she knows it is bull. She is awesome, EXTREMELY well connected and respected int he field, and it’s too bad that the only review up here prior to mine was from this. well, child.

Run — in the other direction. This woman should not even be licensed.
Note on your initial consultation visit how she talks about not asking the child what’s happening, not mentioning what’s going on in the therapy sessions (which are ostensibly closed — parents watch 25 year old outdated VHS tapes in a separate room during the sessions). That’s because NOTHING’s OCCURRING. Your child plays, Trudy feeds him/​her candy (abundantly — and it’s scary to think that such is the way she’s gaining trust/​admittance to the child) and then Trudy spews out a few non-​sensical platitudes on her way to collect the check from you. Hefty check at that. You get no real feedback or assessment — even if you ask for it. She books appointments so closely together that she’s fried and frayed and rushes you and your child out of her facility at the end.
Listen to her offputting/​superior answering machine message. It’s a litany of what you can and cannot do. Try to email her (about scheduling — in our case, she couldn’t find a slot for us and was supposed to call during the week but never did) and you get a downright nasty (and inappropriate) response from her husband. Who the heck is he?
I’m sure this review will be removed by Unilocal as their filtering is horrendous but if I can help only one concerned parent (and if you’re going for play therapy, clearly, you’re concerned about your child). ..
