When I heard about the Bike Monk it was as if he was a hero in a legendary epic… whispers of ungodly truing skills, a bigfoot-like list of citings in recent history, awed reports of his mechanical prowess by young fresh-faced bike mechanics. ALLTRUE!!! i have a beautiful, stock 80’s steel trek. one day a student blew a stop sign at a 4-way and rammed into my back wheel. well, i didn’t biff if or crotch myself(yay me!), but this broad totally dinged my rim with her huffy! i passed the wheel to a friend with an extensive personal shop when i thought all it needed was a truing and he and his buddies failed to true it after 2 hours. fairwheel just sold me another wheel and swapped out my rear casette. unhappy with my non-stock wheel, i took my old one to the bike monk and in a mere 15 minutes, and while he was chatting with me nonetheless, he trued it TOCOMPENSATEFORTHEDING! this guy has mastered some sort of mystical zen bicycle art and his pricing was amazingly fair. what a great experience. now, i too share in propagating the mythos of the man and am happy to report that even though his shop on 22nd is closed, he still does bike magic out of his home by appointment.
