Always have a good time here. Live music and a slick dance floor. Good beer prices and pool tables to pass the night away.

Oh I wanted to go here for a long time. The music last night was off the hook. It was fun to see so many people tip the band. The singing and playing was incredible … like a Major Concert that you would pay big $$$ for. Nancy and the Scarlet Letterman — delish. Great Dance Floor — and lots of space. I looked over the menu. The prices are really reasonable. I really want to eat there sometime. They have special deals throughout the week. They serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The other patrons seemed really friendly. And it is only 6 min from my place — Hey, hey, heyyyyyyyy. I will be a regular. I am going back tonight — bought tickets for a concert there — $ 9. Missy Anderson I feel like someone transported an amazing venue from somewhere else and here it is the Golden City Tucson!!!

It’s a dive bar, but it’s an awesome one. Beer is cheap and cold, burgers are really good, and they always have a great band playing.

An older skewing dive bar, with live music and a friendly staff. Not bad, but not super busy or impressive the weekend I visited. The drinks weren’t overly strong, but neither were they overly pricey. I’ve seen worse.

One of my favorite places. Not to divey and not scene at all. Good music, good food, great prices. Been going here for years and never had a bad experience. Can get crowded Friday and Saturday nights, but what bar doesn’t? They got pool tables up front, dart boards in back, and good selection on the jukebox. The live music is great and spans most genres. Try the Jiffy burger, it’s actually really good.

Laid back with live music and bartenders that’ll come to your table if they can. Other reviews call it a dive but by comparison to some I’d call it clean, funky, and local. $ 5 cover is to pay for the band so i have no problem with that. If you want upscale and swanky this is not the right place for you. If you appreciate basic fundamentals of a bar/restaurant, this place is tops!

The barren post-Xmas, pre-new year’s weekend is usually a no-band’s land for Tucson as all the big players gear up to take stage on New Year’s Eve. The Boondocks, a serious blues venue whose clientele knows more about music than a trolley full of horn-rimmed hipsters downtown, hosts some of the most amazing shows in this town. It helped that we got one of those miraculous tables which afforded full view of the band, easy dance floor access, and a clear path to the back door where a girl might sneak a smoke and get to see Dave Alvin pull up in a sparkling Green Impala. Blues, boogie-woogie, funk, and jazz all have a comfortable home here beneath the crumbling wine bottle. It’s rare even in bigger cities to find lineups of the caliber who regularly play here, an achievement by the seriously devoted Tucson Blues Society which puts the«school» in «old school.» The crowd, including plenty of out-of-towners and kids who weren’t born when the bands on stage were racking up Grammies, was probably over capacity, but as always here, enthusiasm is contagious. Boondocks is still a music mecca, even with the burgeoning downtown venues. A show like this for $ 15 without the drive to The Rhythm Room is one reason why The Boondocks is a priceless Tucson treasure.

Have yet to try the burger here… supposed to be good. I have never had good service from the bartenders. Never. Actually on one stop in, I waited about 10 minutes with no acknowledgement, and left. I’ve never seen a huge crowd here, likely coming on off nights. I’ll give the burger a shot, but am don’t have great expectations.

It’s a dive bar. We like to go as a group of friends. I have been twice now, and each time there is a cover. You can usually negogiate on how much you pay if you have a large enough group. I think the same band was playing — over a year later from my initial visit. The band was good, played mostly cover songs. The bartenders were attentive and quick to the pour. Some of the drinks seemed expensive for the location.

Seriously a $ 5 cover when there were like 5 people in the place? I came here on a saturday night to see my friends band play. I love the band, but its really hard to get people to come see them play. I can see if there was a sold out crowd to have a cover fee, but seriously 6pm on a saturday night? The waitress was very friendly and attentive to our needs.

Interesting. That is the best word I can find to describe my experience. A large group of us decided to head over here after dinner at Guadalajara because it was close and hey, who doesn’t love a dive bar? We get there and after the guys in our group get wanded to enter(yes, wanded with a metal detector) we become hesitant about the type of place we are entering. No matter, we continue. Upon walking through the door we are told of a $ 5 cover. Hmm. Not exactly what we were in the mood for. But, we had a large group, I worked out an agreement and got us in at a somewhat reduced price. The place is exactly what a dive bar should be, but with a little more. They have four pool tables a large round bar, plenty of seating, a kitchen, and a stage and dance floor. Friday night a reggae band was playing. And, they were not too shabby. The crowd is a very, very eclectic mix of people. I was paying 3.50 for well vodka tonics, a little steep in my book for the venue. Though I did hear they have PBR in a can for a 1.50. The band was good, and I paid the group cover to support them, but otherwise, I am not so sure. Overall, its just an okay place. I am not sure if I would go back on a Friday night. Maybe a Sunday afternoon. I cant speak to the food, but from what I read it is good. Maybe next time.

SERIOUSLY, this place has the best burger for the buck in town. Pretty much everyday you can get a ¼ lb burger with fries for about 4 bucks. On Wednesdays you can get a ½ lb. The meat… hold on to your panties… doesn’t come in PREMADE patties. The lettuce, sliced(not chopped) onion, tomato are fresh. The pickles are good and you get ketchup, mustard, and mayo on the side so that you may decorate your burger how you please. Now I hear the rest of the menu is good but the burger for 4 bucks is the reason I go to this place to eat. The staff is friendly. I am not big on a place with no windows but there is a patio(smoking allowed) that you can take your food and drink out on to. There is a LOT of live music which is great but also means that they charge a cover on a regular basis. The bands I have seen there though have been pretty great. I will be back and back and back every time I have a craving for a really good burger that I get asked what temp… and that is how it comes out!!!

Not my usual scene but I decided to come here for some late night karaōke. They are fairly decent in size and have the bar right smack in the middle. There are a bunch of places to sit and a good number of pool tables. If you’re looking for somewhere less upscale and more laid back this is definitely the place you wanna go to. The bartender was really accommodating and the DJ wasn’t that bad either. I didn’t check out the bathrooms so I don’t know what that situation is like, but I’m guessing not too pretty with the crowd that dons this venue.

With the iconic Chianti bottle in the parking lot, you would be hard pressed to drive past Boondocks without stopping in. Cheap, stiff drinks, an eclectic crowd, pool tables, and poker tournaments are what can be found here. For those of us that still smoke, there is a wonderfully dark front patio in which to scheme, dream, and possibly even scream.

What can I say? This place is a very colorful dive bar. It is definatly a gem. You cant miss the giant Chianti Bottle. Some of the best road art Ive ever seen. They have good bands on weekends and special events. If you become a regular you get your own bucket. They’ll tell you what its for. Cant ruin the surprise. They have an amazing burger special on Wednesdays. Now I cant remeber all their specials, but they’re usually all pretty tasty and resonable. I know they use to have some pretty amazing steak specials on Thursdays. St. Patty’s is always fun their. They have a great Corn Beef special and some great Irish music playing. I recommend this place. If you have time ask someone about«Homeless Fries» & «Tucsonic Sauce». Then tell them some guy named Jeff wrote this on Unilocal. Finally be prepared to get kicked out! So try the food first.
