I don’t understand the negative reviews. We recently sold a home built by Pulte and the a/​c unit was installed by Chas roberts. The inspection on the unit said we needed $ 800 worth of work (which was performed by another company) roberts showed up quickly inspected the unit and gave us a $ 200 quote to repair the unit. Very happy with the timeliness technician and price. Very happy with them.

My A/​C wasn’t working last weekend so I called Chas Roberts, since they were the company that installed my A/​C unit 5 years ago and the only company that we’ve had service the unit. When we scheduled the appointment, we were told that there is a service charge of $ 85 for a technician to come out and look at the A/​C unit. When the technician arrived, he said that there would be an additional charge of $ 125 for an electronic leak detector test. The tech spent only a few minutes inspecting the A/​C unit (while talking on his cell phone the entire time). He quickly concluded that the evaporative coil was leaking and that the repair would cost around $ 2,700 but for $ 3,000– $ 5,000 we could purchase a new unit that comes with a one year warranty. They said that the unit they installed 5 years ago was past its warranty.
I called Naughton’s Plumbing who recommended two companies; one of which was Gotham Heating and Cooling. Gotham sent two techs, who arrived on time, and spent 2 hours at my house inspecting the A/​C unit and performing an electronic leak detection test. They did not find a leak but had, however, found that Chas Roberts had previously duck taped over two vent opening in my attic. They showed me pictures. We weren’t getting enough cool air in the house so we had previously paid Chas Roberts to come out and adjust the vents in our attic (according to what they recommended) but, apparently they had just taped over the vents. This caused a greater demand on the A/​C unit to use freon so the freon was very low. Gotham actually took me around the house with the leak detector to show me that the instrument was not registering any leaks. They also explained what other physical signs would be present to indicate that there was a leak and showed me how I could look for those signs. The then filled the freon levels and showed me again that there was no leak after refilling the freon. Best of all, they used their freon tank and the detector to show me what trace amount of freon would actually trigger the detector. In other words, the detector definitely should have registered a leak after they refilled the freon.
My total bill for two A/​C techs from Gotham to spend 2 hours at my house and actually resolve the problem, was only $ 270.00. That included 5 pounds of freeon for $ 150, $ 90 labor, and $ 15 travel charge. It cost less to have Gotham actually fix the problem than for Chas Roberts to misdiagnose it.
One good thing that I can say about Chas Roberts is that my husband called and requested his money back for $ 205 leak detection. Chas Roberts argued with him but did, in the end, agree to return the funds. We’re still waiting to receive the refund.

I would give them a zero but Unilocal wont let me. This the most unprofessional company I have ever worked with.
They put the AC in our home when we purchased it 4 years ago. In that time we went thru 4 air handlers and a compressor. Never to find the real problem. Stay far away!!!

Save yourself some time and go with ANYONE ELSE.
If I could put 0 stars, I would. They were also rated on Google as well with 1stars. My air went out Thursday night and I called an AC repair man who said there was a leak. My landlord didn’t like the quote or the diagnosis so he called someone else who said that there was too much refrigerant when it was installed and now the AC compressor is broken.
We called Chas Roberts, who initially installed the AC, on Friday and they scheduled us for «first thing» Tuesday due to the Labor Day weekend. Tuesday rolls around and they said whoever answered on Friday «forgot» to put us on the schedule but they’ll «squeeze us in.» We told them the compressor was broken and please bring another.
The Chas Roberts repair man comes without a compressor and after 10 minutes, tells us what we already know! Then he tells us we’ll have to wait two days and it will be installed on Thursday.
Wednesday they call me and ask if 8−11am is a good time to come on Thursday I say yes. Thursday 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am all roll by. An hour past the time frame, the technician calls. I tell him the time frame was 8 – 11 to which he replies «You’ll have to call the office.»

My children and have I been without AC in Tucson in August in 100+ degree weather every day for a week! Like I said, save yourself some time and go with ANYONE ELSE.

So unbelievably disappointed in this company. Our AC stopped working on Saturday (in July heat so not exactly fun). On Monday we call the number on our thermostat to get someone out to look at it… its Chas Roberts Air Conditioning. $ 65 just to come out and look at it… not to find the problem, just to show up at the door. They waive that fee if you have them fix the problem right then and there… But their fees for the problem far out priced that of a competitor so no opportunity to find the best price since you’re already $ 65 poorer just for having them come out. They wanted to charge us to find the leak they say it has and then another charge to fix it… And you can’t say, ok I’ll have you come out in a few days to fix it when I have the money to pay your overpriced services… you still have to pay the $ 65 for the visit that day. No thank you, we actually sent him home after calling around to find pricing on our problem, it was worth $ 65 to get Chas Roberts Air Conditioning out of my house. I’m sorry but I have an issue with a company that charges its clients for basically no service… you diagnosed the problem but you didn’t diagnose it completely since you charge extra to actually pinpoint the leak location. I usually don’t write bad reviews but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth and my wallet lighter without getting my AC fixed.

The air conditioner in my home broke down. Yes. It. Did. In Arizona. In the summer.
Of course the first thing I did was call my husband to make sure he hadn’t done anything to it. The air conditioner was, in fact, still running but not cooling. He said no and had me check to make sure I hadn’t put it on the wrong setting or something. Nothing worked. I thought I would have to call around for air conditioning repair, but the Chas Roberts name and phone number was right on our thermostat.
I called and explained what was happening and they told me they could have someone come out in about 4 hours. The fans were running, but it was still getting hotter and hotter in my house. I was about to start looking for hotels where we could bring along our furry baby when the doorbell rang. It had been about 20 minutes since I’d called and the service man was there already.
He checked the thermostat and the actual unit and told us it was the capacitor. Because I am tremendously immature, my first thought was «Where are we going to get the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity needed for the capacitor». Then my second thought was, «This sounds expensive». It turned out to be $ 60 for the part and labor, not the thousands of dollars I was dreading. They also offered to sell it to us and we could install it ourselves (and by «ourselves», I mean my husband). He was done in a very short while and the air conditioner started working again.. .. . and not a moment too soon!
