Crizmac

This is closed and it’s something else now.

For years I’ve driven past this brightly colored, funky little building with the gorgeous, vibrant tile surrounding the door and been drawn to the place. But it was just that… I drove past it. I had no idea what it was, I just knew it appealed to me.
Lo and behold I found myself pulling in to the little parking lot yesterday a couple of minutes after 5pm. The illuminated sign in the window flashed OPEN and the door was unlocked but the hours of operation sign on the door indicated a 5pm closing time. I walked in and found a fun little shop full of unique folk art from around the world. Along with the rugs, jewelry, decorative art and amazing, one of a kind pieces CRIZMAC also sells great children’s books that are unlike any you’ll find in Barnes & Noble.
Within a few seconds of entering, a woman came out from the back and greeted me. We talked for a moment and I told her I just wanted to browse but realized she was closed. She told me to stay and explore the store while she finished up with an artist from Oaxaca in the back. When she came back she introduced herself as Stevie and told me about CRIZMAC. They do workshops, artist showings, travel, lectures and sell items in the store both on consignment and as store inventory.
I plan to come back to CRIZMAC for not only some unique gifts but perhaps a show and a lecture. CRIZMAC is full of fantastic art — what a treasure!

Do visit and shop at crizmac, a charming store, 1642 N Alvernon Way, just south of Pima. I have been there many times browsing the local and Mexican folk art. I just attended a lecture on the weaving, carving and clay artisans from Oaxaca Mexico. Stevie Mack, gave a most engaging and enlightening presentation. There are free monthly lectures and lots of other events. Truly a wonderful experience. See for yourself.
