Well… very interesting. A white acrylic donut by day, a multicolor luminescent spectacle by night. Powered by a small solar panel. It even has a plaque. Had to go see it out of curiosity, thanks to Bella’s and Christy’s reviews. Just one of those Tucson oddities, of which Tucson doesn’t seem to have a shortage of. It is located on the median on W. Alameda between the Tucson Museum of Art and City Hall. Easy to park on the south side of Alameda in front of City Hall. Couldn’t find that secret button, though. May return to see if we can find it.

I drive passed the Desert O countless times a week and the best time is at night! As Christy F. notes in here reviews, the Desert O is a solar powered orb-like structure located downtown near the Tucson Museum of Art. It can’t be missed! If you’re easily amused by lights and colors, then you’ll love it! It lights up every night of the week with distinct color patterns that’ll catch you eye. And as Christy F mentioned, there is in fact a secret button that allows visitors to change the colors themselves. Interpretation is all up to you friends! Every time I drive passed it I think about life-savers. The Desert O has a unique history too. This piece of public art was actually purchased at an auction for #$ 3500 and then donated to the City of Tucson. It’s certainly an oddity, but that’s what the OP is all about!

In Tucson we are never short on sunlight and I love it ! The Desert O sculpture is a solar powered donut looking orb that turns different colors and patterns each night of the week. The powerful LEDs use the stored energy from the sun to give downtown Tucson a nightly animated light show. BUT did you know that this 6-foot-tall beauty has a secret button??? It’s true, you can change it’s color scheme if you find it. After you leave, it will return to it’s scheduled color for the night. Check it out if you are near city hall between El Presisio Park and the Tucson Museum of Art.
