I love D’s Island Grill! We shared the Curry Goat and Oxtail and both were tender and delicious. I couldnt stop eating even after I was full. Drooling just thinking of it!

This is my favorite Jamaican restaurant in Tucson. If you want authentic Jamaican food this is the best place in Tucson. Curry goat is on point, oxtail is on point and their red snapper is the best I ever had.

Amazing! Im from out of town I went hiking near by at Tumamoc and came here after. I ordered the jerk chicken plate and it came out fairly quickly. Just by the interior and the sweet lady working, I believe she is the owner I got that real Jamaica feel as soon as I walked in. Yah man? Its one of them tings. The food was amazing and I asked her if they cooked it over the green wood which is hoe they really do it in Jamaica and guess what they do. So if youre looking for that authentic, delicious, Jamaican cuisine. Look no further!

Used to eat jerk chicken a lot growing up in Florida, and have not had good Jamaican style jerk chicken or other food since I moved to Arizona. I finally made it to the east side of town and decided to stop in for lunch. I am glad I did. The whole menu looked delicious, but I was only hungry enough to try one dish, so I ordered the jerk chicken. It was absolutely delicious the spices tasted authentic, and there was plenty of food filled me up. Definitely recommend you stop by and try this place if you get a chance!

The person who took my orders had sauce all on their mouth and hands. I ordered a jerk chicken kids meal that cost over $ 8 that included 1 piece of chicken(maybe even a half a piece), very bland rice and peas, and a hush puppy. For $ 8+ I was looking for my plantain, but didn’t have one in sight. The chicken has sauce sprinkled on it, so I asked for extra sauce, well, the chef seemed upset about that by way of his body language. I was introducing someone to the cuisine and she said it tasted like BBQ chicken and wasn’t bad. I have to agree. If you want BBQ chicken, this is your spot, but not if you want jerk chicken.

We came here a few days ago, and really liked it! My mom got the fish taco, my dad got the meal with jerk chicken, and I got the jerk burger and we left our plates totally cleaned off. This is the only Jamaican food I’ve ever had so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but honestly everything was so good! We’ll definitely be back! The service was good, we were the only ones dining in. They had a few customers come for take out but other than that it was just us. Everyone was polite, and from what we could see everything was clean! Can’t wait to come back and try more things!

There’s nothing fancy about the atmosphere, but the service is friendly and efficient, the portions are generous, and almost everything I’ve ever eaten here has been just delicious. Somewhat surprisingly, the jerk chicken was the one exception; it was fine, but the«jerk» flavor was mostly in the sauce rather than in the chicken itself. If you really want chicken, I’d recommend going for the curry chicken instead; better yet, skip the chicken entirely and try the curry goat or the oxtail stew, both of which are fantastic. Hint: The menu is very meat-centric, so vegetarians won’t find much they can eat, and even omnivores may want to do take-out and supplement with a salad or some fresh vegetables.

Excellent! Tried the ginger beer, Irish Moss and Watermelon Splash drinks. Had the jerk beef tacos, plantains and jerk entrée platter — amazing service, great quality and great price!

Nothing to criticize = 5 stars. We went in to try jerk pork and jerk chicken. We’ve never had this type of food before and we were pleasantly surprised! Super tender, flavorful and pairs so well with the provided rice and an additional grapefruit soda(seriously, why isn’t this soda popular here?!) The atmosphere charmed me the most. A tropical dive that either makes you feel like you’re on an island… or reminds you how badly you WANT to be on an island. Leh sigh. At least I know what to order when I do eventually travel and in the meantime, I get to enjoy this gem! The multicultural vibe added to the charm. I saw so many different people from different backgrounds inside this restaurant, and being in an interracial relationship, I forgot how comforting an inclusive magnet, like this place, can be. I wish I lived closer…

I was craving goat and came here for some. I feel weird admitting that… In an case, I had the goat curry which was really good. Cute little place… I’d go back to check out other menu options. They have all sorts of sodas imported in, which might be fun to try. Really reasonably priced, and if you check in on Unilocal, you get 50% off when you purchase another entrée.

Lady at the counter was super nice & we had the lunch specials– jerk chicken was just ok(I’m not a fan of bbq sauce used) but the stew meat was delicious; the rice, beans, & coleslaw were nice sides & pretty affordable at $ 4.99 each.

WOW! What a great find! We love Jamaican food and was happy to find this while visiting. Tried the curry goat and oxtails. Spicy and very good! The seasoning was perfect! The rice was also good, heck even the salad was delicious. Stop what you’re doing and come try this place out! We left full and happy! I promise you will not be disappointed.

I’ve eaten at the truck and the restaurant… I’ve had the combo plates, the jerk chicken tacos and a few other goodies at D’s… But I truly love their Jamaican meat patties. Service is always great and friendly. And when it’s truly hot out, there’s nothing better than a nice refreshing glass of sorrel to drink… And D’s is quite good. Don’t hesitate to ask questions… The answers will be cheerfully given. If you’ve never had curry goat… Understand that there’s lots of bones… But knowing that… You’ll be eating one of the finest meals in Tucson. The taste is deep and savory.

What a hidden gem! Loved this place from the moment I walked in. It’s decked out in Jamaican vibes with the décor and color scheme that instantly makes you feel ‘relaxed’. The drink selection is really unique too, Jamaican sodas that range from grape to ginger beer. I opted for the cream soda and I loved it. Lots of carbonation the way I like it. I went for the Jerk Chicken and the moment it came out I felt like I was in a home style kitchen. The flavor a were ultra unique with a variety of spices and sauces used. They had a quesadilla I really wanted to try but sadly I’ll wait til next time. My party also got the burger and they enjoyed it. Will be back to try more…

My first visit to D’s Island Grill was an adventure in culinary delight. I ordered an appetizer of festivals(small rolled fried dough with a cinnamon taste) and followed that with a meal of fried tilapia fish that included more festivals, a mound of red bean rice, and a selection of sauteed vegetables. A wonderful visit and soon to be repeated.

JAMAICAN fast food! i hear D’s used to be a truck but they’re now a brick and mortar my plate of oxtail to-GO was $ 12, a bit pricier than the jerk chicken that Unilocalers also seem to like, but i was happy with my choice —oxtail plate: the meat=tender goodness! the plate comes with rice & beans, cabbage slaw, and a fried bread that had a subtle sweetness but good crisp NOTE: it was hard to locate the restaurant via Unilocal directions but it’s actually on the south side of the intersection in a plaza!

Going to simutek to fix my max I wandered into this gem and ordered the special curry chicken and plantains!!! Food was great and authentic coming from a curry lover! Sorry I’m Indian and I can’t help it! Totally wished there were more ethnic food places in Tucson and Caribbean spots! Definitely coming back for the drinks and desserts! After all who doesn’t love being in paradise on a hot arizona day!

So. I was going to give this place 3 stars. But the truth is that there is not enough authentic cultural foods here in Tucson so I’m happy that Ds is thriving. The good: the fish tacos my husband got were amazing. Seriously. Best damn tacos I ever had. I don’t care if it was the sauce or whatever else, they were juicy and flavorful and kicked you in the mouth just enough to want more. The watermelon splash was also delicious but a little too sweet for my taste. The average: the décor. It was okay… saw wallpaper coming off in a. couple of places but I didn’t come to this place for ambiance. I came for food. The mehhh: Jerk chicken was okay. Grilled chicken with Jerk sauce. It was pretty decent but I wouldn’t order it again. The rice was little bland for my taste. Overall, pretty good. Would return.

Jamaican food in Tucson. Not really two things that I would put together, but when I saw that this was an option, I insisted that we stop here for lunch on our way out of town. We both ordered jerk chicken plates, with a side order of plantains. There was a decent lunch rush, so the food took a little while to come out. My chicken was pretty bony, but the meaty portions were really tasty and flavorful. The plate was mostly dominated by the sides and not by the actual meat, but the sides were delicious. The plantains were also really, really good. If you check in on Unilocal, you get a discount, which helps, because it is a little pricey, but you get a lot of food. Come in and give D’s a try!

I read ox-tail in one of the reviews and immediately I knew I had to drop by during this trip! To my surprise the place is situated in a fairly empty plaza(at night at least). Lighting was bad and I was hesitant to even walk in because there was only one person sitting inside(the employee or owner). Food: Ordered to go Ox-tail — Not the best I’ve had through this is the first time I’ve had it Caribbean style. They did stew it long enough for the meat to fall off. Decent flavor. It can use a bit of presentation. The meal also came with something that tasted like hard donut which I was not a fan of. Carrot/Pinapple drink — Had spice kick to it which I would guess to be ginger. Very refreshing! Service: Probably not applicable for me since I ordered to go. The guy was fairly nice and sparked a conversation when I asked him how long they’ve been open for. Environment: They can use a touch up in here. Feels very hole in the wall ish though the place was not that old. I usually like hole in the wall places, but only when it comes with the history of the restaurant. Price: Not bad I think I spent less than $ 12 on my plate of food. It was a decent amount of food. Food: 4 Service: 4 Environment: 2 Price: 3
