I lived here for over a year. Not wanting to sign a lease, I decided to go for the monthly option. Whether you want to stay a night, week or month, I strongly advise anyone from giving this place your business. The grounds around the property is well maintained, but this is the only positive thing to give. Internet never worked, unless you were next to the office. They advertise premium cable channels… Nothing is further from the truth. Count on bad connection with your choice of around 8 channels. Furniture is out dated. I had a major leak in my room during monsoon season Which was ignored. Markus is the manager of the property, as well as the son of the owner. The family that owns the property are nothing less than slum-lords. Totally ungrateful to the tenants. I felt compelled to share because this property is simply failing all around.

Flamingo suits is exactly what you would expect from an aging 60s ish motel The room has stove fridge micro wave and coffee pot, but no cups, drinking glasses, utensils of any kind. Some old ratty furniture, a couple of beds, a bathroom with ¾ of a roll of toilet paper, a couple towels and wash cloths. The TV was one step above black n white with a dozen channels. The beds were old but seemed relatively clean. Our first mission was to run to the store and pick up some solo cups, coffee mugs and a bottle of fabreeze for the musty smell in the room. Sixty bucks a night is a little on the high side for this place, I would suggest going across the street to the best western. We stayed 4 nights, because the location was close to food and drink. Hope we didn’t catch anything.

As a poorish grad student I like to economize on hotels. I stay in extended stay suites, suburban motels, etc. Sometimes I push this too far. That’s when I end up at this allergen palace. It took only a 2 hour nap on the bed for me to develop nasty allergy symptoms. Since Tucson is not exactly known for pollen, there is only one explanation: this mattress is as old as the place itself and full of dustmite. Dustmite allergy is very common and it is unacceptable for even a cheap hotel not to take steps to prevent it. It doesn’t take much: regular cleaning and vacuuming, selecting hypoallergenic bedding(not even that expensive, you just need to look for it), and replacing it occasionally. Come on. That’s what you get paid for. if econolodge can pull it off so can you. Oh, and also, there is no wifi.

The best thing about this place is its website. They make it sound like a charming and inexpensive place to stay. The outside – as seen from a distance – is also enticing. The good parts stop there! As we unloaded our luggage(after a long and tiring drive) we watched 3 police vehicles pull up to roust out a roomful(about 6) rowdy, brawling drunks. Too late to look elsewhere… and we had reservations. The close up view of the exterior reveals crumbling and peeling paint. The suite had dirty and worn out furniture. The kitchen was as advertised, but had NOUTENSILS, PLATES, CUPS, POTS, PANS… nothing.(I guess one is supposed to carry these things in one’s suitcase). The manager promised to have housekeeping bring these items in the morning, but… I guess they or he forgot. The place has a pool… it is green and slimy, but it IS a pool. OK…it’s all a matter of taste. Some people like green, slimy, noisy, smelly, deteriorated places…

I have the misfortune of living in the townhouses next to this eyesore. I will soon be buying fencing for my back wall because random trash is pitched into my yard by their guests. As for artistic flair, does graffiti count? I look forward to the day they knock this place to the ground.

Well, Expedia didn’t accept my review probably because I mentioned that the price being advertised on the street was way less than what I paid for my reservation. I found that same thing in Las Vegas, though. As far as Flamingo goes, it seems like a fairly cute place, pink and nostalgic, but the upkeep could be better. It has a kitchen and coffee maker, but no coffee cups or plates or utensils of any kind. The Bathroom door had a problem closing. No iron or hair dryer. We borrowed both from office. If you go there, look in the fridge, we forgot 4 Newcastles.
