Decent taste-wise, but pretty expensive considering the small portion sizes! When we went we had to wait forever(not sure why it took so long???), and I couldn’t believe we ended up spending $ 10 for 2 tiny portions! Could’ve gotten two pints of Ben & Jerrys with money leftover at that price! Again — the taste was good, but not worth it. We won’t be back.

We went to Frosty Jake’s for the first time last night, and will be back! There was only one guy working the place, but he was super friendly and fast. I tried the«Jake’s Favorite» which is frozen vanilla custard, fresh banana slices, hot fudge, caramel, peanuts and maraschino cherries on top. It was absolutely delicious. I’m excited to go back and try more. The only downfall is their wonky hours, but hey, it’s worth the effort.

Normally, I would have given this place three starts, but as Mike P. says, the hours are misleading. The posted hours are not the actual hours they are open. It’s hit or miss at best. I stop by when I see the flashing light in the window that says open, there is a line, or there are a ton of cars. Why? Because that is the only time they are open. The ice cream is sweet, creamy and everything nice, but it is not worth the pain of stalking it to see if you get lucky. If you want to take your chances, it might be worth it.

First, a caveat: The hours posted can sometimes be misleading. I can’t really speak to the overall menu, as the first time I went I got a Texas Concrete, and it was so good that’s what I’ve ordered every time I’ve been back. The combination of chocolate, cookies and cream, and coffee is genius!

I just ate here and I’m so sorry to say, it just doesn’t measure up. First off, the guy working there this past Friday night was … uninterested, to be kind. «What’s your favorite?» «Uh, I don’t know», he muttered. «I guess(somthing)» I don’t even remember now. Not a good start. Second, I’ve had good frozen custard. Try Andy’s back in the mid-west. Its butter smooth with zero crystals. And I mean zero crystals. This was crystal-y. It looked okay until you dug into it, then it kinda looked like ice cream. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was. Maybe its okay for Tucson, but honestly, I’d take a good DQ any day. I’ve also had Culver’s in the mid-west and have high hopes for it, but its so far from my house, I have no idea when I’ll ever get out there.

Living around the corner the coming soon sign that was up for about a year had me salivating. When Frosty Jake’s finally opened I was stoked and headed then after UA graduation at 945. The hours said open until 10 but they had already closed. As we were getting back to the car the owners were heading out the back and explained how it was one of their first days open so they were working out the kinks. They were an older couple and amazingly friendly so of course we would give it a second chance. When Jake’s was open we went again and tried their two custards, Vanilla and Strawberry. Both were mediocre and the portion size was small for the price. For example, custard that was above the rim of the cup was flattened and scooped off by the server. The custard itself was little more than DQ soft serve and nothing special. Jake’s also has very limited hours and is often closed when one happens to be craving frozen custard. The place needs better hours, better custard, bigger portions or lower prices, and should try some more adventurous flavors.

A bit pricey for what you get, I think. But the vanilla custard is really smooth and delicious. For the price, though, I’ll be sticking to gelato at Allegro’s. What is very annoying is their limited business hours. It took three tries to catch them open. 3 ***‘s for hours and price/portion ratio 4 ***‘s for the actual product(very good)

Despite Jake’s limited open hours, we finally got to try their ice cream. I must say it was very, very good. Smooth and creamy and very flavorful. It’s an old-style walk-up-to-the-window business and they have seating outside so you can sit and enjoy your ice cream. In this heat, you gotta eat fast! I’m a DQ fan but Jake’s is definitely on my list for an ice cream treat. Now I await the final building stages of the Culver’s over on Broadway. I love all these ice cream shops opening up everywhere in the Old Pueblo.

My kids and I are from the Midwest where custard reigns king. Here in Tucson it’s gelato, which I definitely love as well. But this is yummy and great. The vanilla is superb, and it’s so creamy with a great flavor, the chocolate mmmmm, and the peach well I am not the biggest fan of that one. My daughter and I had the Iowa concretes and it was pretty darn good. The downfall of this place only open from 5−9pm so pretty limited hours. On top of it, it’s not the quickest place. I believe though in time they’ll get better at this. All the employees are very pleasant and I hope they are successful. Hope they change their hours when kids are back in school it is right across from a middle school, so I think they will d great. Just for the record the Iowa concrete was a great dessert. Especially with the mounds of peanut butter.

Went here last night after eating dinner. I have been trying to get here for weeks, but never caught them open. The menu is straightforward about ten pre selected combo items, and also make what you want with three toppings. My partner ordered the California, I ordered the sundae with three toppings. Well took a long time to get two sundaes. Mine had lots of custard, Oreos but little chocolate sauce as requested. My partners, wow what can I say, a small amount of custard less than a handful, while mine was over flowing. So for $ 4.50 a pop I think it is WAY over priced and will not be going back. Hell, Ben and Jerry’s is less. The people running this place were not organized.

No one has added Frosty Jakes in yet as a business on Unilocal so I have decided to add it since I have been waiting for it to open for months now. It is located in the old Hamburger Stand building next to Water Street Station on Grant and Country Club. Well it opened recently and we went there to try it out. I decided to try the Wisconsin which is a concrete. It is a blended combination of vanilla custard, peanut butter, and black raspberry. At $ 4.50 it comes in a fairly large cup that I could not finish. It tasted wonderful and I did enjoy it. The frozen custard has a nice smooth taste. I also tried their strawberry custard in a regular cone and it tasted really nice as well. I has been many years since I have had frozen custard and it brought me back to when I had as a child. Definitely a place to visit and try if you have never had frozen custard or if you are trying to relive a memory.
