Owners if you see this!!! I think your location wasn’t the best, you really have the right idea and your food was really good. Please reopen somewhere else! You are greatly missed.

It was OK, but not special to me. The menu is very limited. The food was fresh and healthy, but I was left wanting more flavor. I did like the Oatchata drink I tried.

Like Chipotle? THISISSOMUCHBETTER! No GMOs, all local, natural food. I tried Mexico in Season by the request of a friend. Walked in to wonderful aromas! The concept is similar to Chipotle, in that you can customize your options — bowl, tostada…- and then there are options like crazy. Choose from beans, rice, lots of DELICIOUS Vegan, pork, beef, and chicken options, and TONS of toppings. ANDYOUCANGETTHEMALL! NOEXTRACHARGE! I was caught off guard at first that there were no soft drinks available, but they have house made drinks that are so tasty. And you can get a free 16 oz drink if you check in on Unilocal or Facebook. My meal cost $ 7.50 for a chicken and vegan option bowl. Every option on the menu was under $ 8. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Try it. You can’t be disappointed.

Mexican food with gluten free and vegan options. Every time I come here the food is fresh, the dining area is clean and the staff always greets is with a smile. We come here on Friday and Saturday nights and walk off our meal around the corner at the swap meet. A great place for the health conscious.

Looked for a healthier Mexican food option near the airport. 10 min ride and I was here. The selection can be overwhelming, but the friendly staff walk you through it. I highly recommend it. You will come back if you try it once.

Fresh tasty Mexican food. Kind of like Chipotle but better tasting. Affordable. Fast. Friendly. The drinks did not fit my palette. They were trying to be creative but the odd injection of ingredients were off to my taste. The food was good and the portions were right. If you are not super hungry, you could share or have some to take home. Kind of difficult center to pull into off a busy corner. I might go back. It is a little out of the way.

A great restaurant that satisfies Vegans, Vegetarians and carnivores. It is set up like Chipoltle but way better in that they offer more choices and do not skimp on toppings; in fact, they will put as many or as much on as you prefer. It is clean and the people working there are super friendly and patient as they explain everything to you. The homemade Mexican drinks are delish! My only complaint is the location is too far from where I live!

5 star food hidden in a light industrial warehouse district. If you’re driving through AZ on I10, GETOFFTHEFREEWAY, for the most amazing burritos on the planet. I had the chicken fajita burrito on a homemade whole wheat tortilla. My hubby had the seitan burrito. The portions are huge, so beware of the food coma that sets in quickly after. Seriously, Delicious and healthy! When was the last time you used burrito and healthy in the same sentence? At Mexico in Season it’s best of both worlds.

Finally a decent place for vegans AND carnivores on the south side of Tucson! I had the vegan burro with seitan and cactus while my wife had a vegan bowl with the cactus. It was all REALLYGOOD! To those who complain that the food is bland or uninspiring, remember these are fresh natural ingredients that won’t have the salt and fat of more«processed» foods. What you get here is what natural, fresh ingredients are supposed to taste like — AWESOME!!! We also both had the oatchata that was so good I see us stopping by just to grab one to go. The only improvement I can think of would be their hours(which is why only 4 stars) — they’re only open till 630 m-f and closed on the weekends. The server said that was because of summertime and hopefully they’ll be open maybe on Saturdays in the winter. I’m hoping to see them do so well that they can stay open till 9 or 10 six nights a week.

Let me start out by saying that I have been a strict vegetarian for 28 years and a vegan for the last 8 of those. As a native Tucsonan, I LONG for great vegan Mexican choices and am willing to look past many flaws just for the option. When I found out about MIS, I was thrilled and got over to their awkward location as quickly as possible. I have been four times now and each time I leave, I think to myself, «Dang, that wasn’t very good.» After tonight, I think I’m done. The people who own and run this place are the sweetest and friendliest you will find, but it just cannot make up for the really mediocre food. The burritos are just too big. I can eat like a boss, but the only time I want a burrito this big is if I’m on an episode of Man vs. Food. Seriously, these things are massive. Too massive, making it difficult to even keep rolled. The beans are bland and for vegans, that aint good… When was the last time you had to add salt to your beans in a tucson Mexican restaurant? Never. The additional items that you can add are interesting, but ultimately taste out of place in a burrito. The owners will try to push things like watercress and crema and options that end up being too much. Remember Coco Chanel’s line«Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.»? The same should be said for burros. The first three visits, I tried different things and none of the combos worked. Don’t ask me to design my burro, I’m just gonna fuck it up. They need to have a few pre-determined burros here that they know work and that people like. You can’t let the prisoners run the prison. For tonight’s visit I got a beans and rice burro with guacamole and hot salsa… nope. Even taken to a bare minimum, it just wasn’t very good. We’ve also tried the«sandal» and found it really disappointing. Basically a large, uninspired bunch of room temperature masa. Most of that went uneaten(again, much too big anyhow). Mexico In Season does have one thing they do well, and THEYDOITVERYWELL: «Oatchata». This is the BEST horchata I’ve ever had and I will stop in when in the neighborhood, may even go out of my way, for this magical drink. Try it. You will want the 24 ounce size and then get a refill for another buck. I wish these guys the best of luck and really, really want to love them, but I just can’t. I’d rather stay home and make my own Sonoran food and that’s a real bummer.

The south side of town is really lacking in healthy lunch options, so I was excited to try this place. I’m happy to say it lived up to all my expectations! I stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday around 1:00 p.m. The place is set up kind of like Chipotle in reverse. That is, you pay for food first, then go through the line and customize your choice. The nice thing is that means you don’t have to worry about extra cost for things like guacamole(I’m looking at you Chipotle). The lady at the register was very friendly and walked me through the process since it was my first time. I ordered a bowl with pork, which also includes your choice of corn, flour, or whole wheat tortillas. I then got to customize the order. The man behind the counter asked what kind of pork I wanted– red or green chili, or both. Of course I went with both because why not? You can also have rice and beans, but I only opted for the cilantro rice. Then we got to the tougher question– what else did I want on my bowl? There must have been over 20 toppings to choose from! I ended up adding the zucchini slaw, pico de gallo, another kind of salsa, cheese, and guacamole(which is free!). The worst part of my experience was having to wait until I got back to work to eat it, but it was well worth the short wait! The meat was tender, and the sauces were both delicious, although I liked the red better than the green. Rice can sometimes be just a filler for me, but the cilantro rice was actually very flavorful and added to the meal. The big surprise for me was the zucchini slaw– it was so good! It has cucumber, apple & bell pepper, and tastes super fresh and tangy. I learned after the fact that you can also order your takeout online to save some time. I’m definitely excited to have this place in my work-neighborhood and look forward to adding it to my lunch rotation!

This is a great place to grab lunch. Don’t let the Vegan signs scare you away, even for a near carnivore like myself this place has really good food. The meat is fresh, sustainably raised, and all that other feel good ethical stuff, but most importantly this food tastes delicious and fresh. Also, the horchata is the ish. It’s a little bit different than what you’re probably used to, but by far it’s the best I’ve ever had. Another plus this place is really, really reasonably priced. Especially when you consider the high quality food you’re getting in return. In other words stop reading and go give this place a try.

So fresh, so scrumptious. I got the vegan torta, which basically means deliciousness stuffed between two pieces of bread. Their vegan fillings are so yummy you’d never know that you’re actually eating healthy. I haven’t tried any of their meat dishes but if they can pull off vegan, they most definitely can do everything else. I also shared a glass of horchata-not too sweet not too bland, just right. The people that work here are also great. I’ll definitely be a regular here(just like you should be).

What a refreshing addition to the Mexican good scene in town. I hope the Teran family leads the way in bringing more food concepts like this to Tucson. I had a total epiphany in that first meal. Yes! Mexican food can be served with the freshest, clean, non-gmo and even vegan items. It is totally possible to achieve this kind of magic in the kitchen, as long as a Teran is in the room! Vegans, vegetarians and carnivores alike, can enjoy the exquisite flavors happening in this little joint. The employes are energetic and happy to help you decide on what to eat. I’m all about the bowl with chipotle chicken, calabacitas, black beans, cilantro rice and the toppings are best surprise! Watercress and lemon salad? Yes please! Zucchini and bell pepper salad? Yes please! And how about that guacamole dressing. Yes! Yes! And yes! I’m 100% a fan of this cuisine and philosophy– using local meat and local vegetables, cooking only what’s in season. I ordered a bowl and ate the entire thing! The fear of heart burn quickly set in and the heart burn never came. Clean food and fresh flavors come to mind first when it comes to describing this experience. I enjoyed every single bite! Will be back, no doubt!

I was totally intrigued to read about this new restaurant of owner Diana Teran that offers food selection based on the Mexican tradition of eating what’s in season. It’s a unique and wonderful place and if you want visiting friends to taste all that real Mexican cuisine has to offer, you should bring them here. Not only do they offer vegan and non-gluten selections, but they offer all natural and organic products and are non-GMO. For meat-eaters, there are also lots of tasty choices. When you first enter, you’re presented suggestions for creating your food masterpiece. You choose whether you want a burro, torta, larga, or a bowl. Then you decide if you want to go vegan, pork, beef, or chicken for your filling. The final step is choosing all the delicious side dishes at the bar.(if you sign in to their Facebook page, you get a free cochinito cookie.) We tried the vegan style and all the choices were loaded with flavor. I especially loved the sweet potatoes, caramalized onions, and calabacitas. They also offer seitan which is a meat substitute in the form of wheat gluten and a rare thing to see in a restaurant. Spread the word!

Tucson entrepreneur Diana Teran is a culinary genius that could have been the inspiration for the movie«Like Water for Chocolate.» The forbidden love plot aside, Teran has transformed traditional Mexican food to a higher level. Every little detail is perfected in a manner that would make Chef Gordon Ramsay proud. The menu at her new restaurant«Mexico in Season» is simple, but the flavors are complex and amazing. Teran is the Latina small business owner that Tucson has to thank for La Tauna Tortillas which she created. After centuries of having tortillas, one would think they had been perfected, but they would be wrong. Once you have a La Tauna Tortilla there is no returning to the piles of boring white tortillas that we have grown up eating. My favorite is the chilitepin tortilla which has enough fire to give a slight warm buzz to whatever food has the honor of being wrapped in a La Tauna Tortilla. Now Teran has opened her first restaurant«Mexico in Season» and I left the restaurant feeling wonderful knowing I was one of the first people in Tucson to experience this new paradise for your palette. This new eatery is a vegan and vegetarian restaurant, but it also sells meat items. Have you ever tried to go to lunch with co-workers and that one vegetarian in the office tags along with you? Now you have a place to go where no one has to sacrifice in order to eat their favorite foods, and the vegetarian food is so good you might have some. I did! Furthermore, the food is as local as possible. For example, the meat comes from local ranches and the tomatoes where freshly picked the day before from Challenger Middle School. This brings us to the name of the restaurant. The«in season» part refers to how Mexicans traditionally ate; one would eat whatever crops were in season at that time. Thus the vegetables being used are guaranteed to be the freshest available depending on the time of year, which also adds diversity to the menu which is always«in season.» Did I mention that the most expensive item is only a mere $ 7? Christmas has come early for Tucsonans. When you first walk in, you head to your left and pay for your order in advance. You choose how you want the meal served, and you choose a base; vegan, pork, beef, or chicken. You can have your food served in a burrito, in a bowl, or in a method I haven’t seen in Tucson but only in Mexico City; huaraches!(Image below). Then you proceed down the line as the chefs put your dish together to your liking. There are multiple options for each base and each one is cooked to perfection. I had the privilege of trying multiple menu items and would have tried more if I wasn’t so stuffed. I began with the red chili, black beans with crumbled white Mexican cheese on top, with a jicama slaw. The red chili had that special taste that I can only find at Yaqui ceremonies; spiced in a way that transcended time. The beans with the white cheese topping reminded my of my nana from Mexico’s cooking, and the jicama slaw which I squeezed some lime over was fresh and invigorating. This comes with your choice of tortillas which includes my favorite, the chilitepin, or others such as the ones made with olive oil. On the side I had a bowl of tortilla soup and the texture was amazing. It was topped with crema and guacamole with the Mexican cheese with tortilla chips that where a bit thicker than usual so they could survive being immersed in the hot soup longer. Once again, I topped this off with a squeeze of lime and I was in heaven. Then I tried a vegetarian tamale. I was immediately delighted when I saw how big it was. The masa was made from organic corn and it was filled with a spinach and green chili center which was delightful, especially knowing that it was healthier than other tamales. As I mentioned earlier, attention is paid to every detail and as a further example, consider their horchata which I also ordered. It was unlike any I ever had before. It turns out that it is made with oats and almond milk and it was by far the best horchata I ever had. The jamaica was made with fresh hibiscus flowers. Everything at this restaurant is excellent. Even items that are sometimes overlooked at other places, such as the beans or aguas frescas that are made from powder receive top chef treatment here. In the future, whenever I pick up a friend from the airport or have a visitor and they want some authentic Mexican food, I know where I will be taking them; to Mexico in Season, on the southwest corner of Ajo and Palo Verde. As an added bonus, the entire north wall is made of glass, so you get a spectacular view of the Catalina Mountains as you eat the best food Tucson has to offer. Luckily for me this new restaurant is on my way to work, so I’ll be sure to drop in regularly to experience the latest foods Mexico has to offer; always fresh and always in season.

The place looks great, spacious and with tall ceilings. The food meet all the the expectations. They are serving healthy dishes with the authentic flavor of Mexican food. The vegetarian and vegan options are a delight. absence of meat does not mean absence of flavor and textures. They are very tasty dishes. The meat and chicken selections are full of flavor and aromas. We sampled Bistec con rajas, Red chile beef, Red chile sweet potato(vegan), Calabacitas(vegan), Nopalitos(vegan), Fried Pork rinds in green chile and red chile, Black beans(vegan), Shredded chicken. All of these are just great dishes. You have the option to build a burrito, have torta style, over a corn Larga(looks like an elongated corn tortilla that is tick) or on a bowl. The tortilla and larga are hand made to order(talk about fresh!). You then have a big selection of salsas, guacamole and lots of vegetable to pile on your dish. For drinks they have Horchata(that is made with oats instead of rice), Hibiscus tea and another seasonal drink. You will have a great experience and I am sure you will want to come back!
