Mona’s hard rolls take me back in time, back to being stationed in Germany, enjoying brötchen with butter and cheese. The croissants are buttery with a slight sweetness. Again, delicious. If you want to taste authentic European baked goods, I highly recommend Mona’s.

Had a Danish in the morning, literally right out of the oven… soft, warm, and delicious. Coffee is OK.

Great bakery. As a private chef, I use Mona’s as my supplier for many of my events. Always top notch. I highly recommend!

I grew up in Racine, Wisconsin. The city known for Danish Kringle. I can attest to how fantastic the bakery goods are at Mona’s. The Kringle is as good as anywhere and the Cannoli is as good as any I’ve had in Sicily.

Dropped by to try their lemon squares, Mona promised they were freshly made this morning. The lemon squares were at least 5 days old maybe 6. I didn’t appreciate Mona’s dishonesty. Won’t be going back there again.

I was in Tucson on business this week and stopped in to Mona’s in my way back to Phoenix. I’m originally from København and get nostalgic for the tastes of home. For that same reason, I can also be extremely critical when let down. No let down here! I purchased a few Kransekager and a large Kringle. My wife and I ate the Kransekager last night for dessert and they were perfectly delicious! I’m now sitting and enjoying a piece of Kringle for breakfast and if I close my eyes, I’m back in Danmark! Thank you for the great pastry and the wonderful memories they bring back! I love this place! Two humble requests: Tebirkes and Franske Vafler, please. I’ll definitely be back!

I lived next to this little place for 3 years and never went in because all I thought they offered were pastries. Then a friend«forced» me to go there for lunch. The inside is small but very clean and tidy. I ordered the tuna salad sandwich and it was excellent. Thick slices of homemade white bread, soft and flavorful. Tuna salad was tasty and not too much mayonnaise. No frills, just a great tasting sandwich. I ordered a bear claw for dessert and it was the best I’ve ever tasted. Not overly sweet, plenty of shaved almonds, and caramelized sugar. Now I wish I’d been frequenting Mona’s when I lived down the street!

I love the cinnamon snail. My daughter loves the croissants, which are like in France. My son loves it all… but we always get the big pretzel-shaped pastry for Christmas morning!

Seriously. If you want homemade European pastries in Tucson, this is it. Danishes, cinnamon rolls(I prefer the flat ones), cinnamon crisp! I have not eaten anything here that wasn’t to die for. Yesterday the coffee was a little under par, but I didn’t even care because it’s the only time anything hasn’t been awesome. They have breakfast and lunch sandwiches as well– also delicious. If it wasn’t for the Ace next door, you might think you were sitting on a sidewalk in Denmark(close your eyes-do it). The owners always seem to be there and are very friendly. If you are in the area, this is a MUST for breakfast treats.

The marzipan roll is not something I’ve tried anywhere else and is a surprising treat! The brownie is sweet and delicious. The latte is tasty! We’re here in the mid afternoon, so it’s quiet and pleasant!

Based off the pastry alone I have to give this 5 stars. The croissants(especially the almond one) were baked to perfection. The fillings were just right. I can’t believe we haven’t tried this sooner. The Unilocal reviewers who didn’t like it must not have tried the addictive pastries.

Agree with some of the other reviewers here re the service. People aren’t very friendly here and the owner definitely is a bit gruff. I used to come here regularly for pastries to go, but haven’t returned since coming here for a sit-down experience. They act like you’re inconveniencing them by ordering.

For the most part i feel monas is a good bakery for tucson standards. Im not crazy about the bread quality and size vs price. Most of the danish is delicious. I have been passed day old stuff a few times! i do think the owners needs to be a bit more appreciative of his customers. He always gives the place a off vibe? i am happy they are here but they need to work on customer skills.

My son and I hit Mona’s on a recent Saturday morning since we live in the area. We arrived fairly late in the morning, around 10:30, to still find many pastries available. The customer service was friendly, much like you would expect from a neighborhood shop. One customer asked if she could take her plate outside and she was told she could take it wherever, just bring it back when you can. I love hearing those kinds of things from mom and pop places! I had the apple turnover and my son had the cherry turnover. If this is any indication of how good it was, my son said«I’m stuffed, I can’t eat any more» but then he proceeded to finish his turnover! Next time, I would like to go back earlier, perhaps even buy some pastries that are freshly baked. I can definitely see myself making Mona’s a regular stop.

Besides the wait, nothing to sad bad about this place. Great homemade pastries, killer flakey crust on everything, the wife liked the coffee, and I loved the danishes … and I know a good danish when I taste one! Check it out when you want a quick bite, with a taste that last!

I stopped here for lunch and it was delicious. All of their quiche, pastries, soups, salads and sandwiches are made from scratch ! You can’t go wrong with anything you order to eat and the price. They come in at 3:00 in the morning to begin baking and whipping up all the yummy items in the dessert display case. I couldn’t make up my mind so ended up ordering and eating a slice of quiche, soup of the day(chicken tortilla) and ham and cheese croissant. Plus I walked out with a Danish and cookie for my mid-afternoon snack! An additional plus are the hours of operation, Monday-Saturday 7am — 6pm and Sunday 7am — 3pm.

We recently moved into the area and were very excited at the thought of walking to a fabulous pasty shop on Sunday mornings, enjoying the paper with fresh pastries and coffee. I guess we should have checked the hours on the door first. They are not open on Sunday. Bummer. Seems that a pastry shop, would be open on the mornings that people tend to have off work. I must say that, the pastries we did have there, on Saturday were very good, but, pricey.

What can I say except that this place is about as authentic as it gets, and delivers the goods. Now, to be fair, they are expensive, but they are also serving up proper, well-made, true-to-form Danish pastries, rolls and bread. Having been to Denmark many times and sampled real Danish bakeries on every visit(how could you not!), this is as close to the real thing as I’ve ever found in the states. One of the owners actually has formal training in baking Danish goods, and it absolutely shows. The hard rolls are absolutely to die for, and I buy them up in quantity whenever I’m in Tucson. The owners are even cool with letting me buy up some of their fresh made, unheated and bagged rolls so I can throw them into the freezer and heat them up whenever I’ve got a craving up in Phoenix. How awesome is that? From the hard rolls to the bear claws to the marzipan truffles and sinfully delicious Napoleon hats, you simply cannot go wrong with this place. I don’t care about the price when the food is this good, it’s worth it and then some. If you’re looking for the real deal, and you know what real Danish pastries are supposed to taste like, you will NOT be disappointed by this place. I’ve been going for many years and I continue to be impressed. I sorely wish they’d open a location in Phoenix, but until then, I’ll have to stock up whenever I’m in Tucson. Awesome place, 5-stars!
