Visited Poco and Moms with some friends upon their recommendation and I was impressed. Poco and Moms fills a niche in the overcrowded Mexican restaurant scene in Tucson by specializing in New Mexico-style Mexican, and they do a fantastic job. Of course you can come here and get something without chiles but what fun would that be? My friends and I all ordered various renditions of green and red chile beef. One friend had the Christmas-style(green/red combo) red chile chimichanga and it was cooked perfectly. The shell was nicely fried but the red enchilada sauce was to die for. Most red enchilada sauces are rich and sorta greasy with no real flavor. This sauce was definitely rich but also had a noticeable, spicey flavor to it. The meat was perfectly cooked, it was pull apart tender with a great peppery flavored spice mix. My other friend and I had the green chile pork enchiladas and they were fantastic. The pork was also pull apart tender and smothered in what appeared to be a homemade hatch chile sauce. The restaurant itself is setup very eclectically, in a building you would otherwise think of for doctor’s offices and accountants, but which actually lends itself to a nice lowkey atmosphere. I was also impressed with the selection of beers and the variety of cocktails. If I hadn’t had to drive I would have definitely tried one of their mexican cocktails. I will certainly be back again! If you’re in the mood for some new mexico style green chiles, look no further.

This is the location with bar and serves breakfast lunch and dinner. The food is just fantastic. My favorite Tucson restaurant along with the original location. The red chili pork burrito with green and white sauce is my go to but the machaca and chili rellenos are the best I have had as well. The salsa is great and the chips, always fresh. we usually go for breakfast. This lace as they say is addicting.

What a loud and rowdy place! Not a complaint, just an observation. This is not a quiet, date-night location, or at least it wasn’t on the night we went. Food was good. I lived several years in New Mexico and have a soft spot for its cuisine(and yes, it is different from Mexican or Tex-Mex). The chile rellenos were quite tasty, though I wasn’t a huge fan of the red sauce.(The green, on the other hand, was delicious.) And I don’t know what they put in their refried beans but OMG, I think I could have eaten my weight in them. My parents got enchiladas and were quite happy with their meals. Staff was a little hard to find at times, but it was super busy so I don’t hold that against them too much. Would go back.

New Mexico Hatch green chili: will you marry me? Having eaten at the location on Kolb and all the way back in the days it was on Pima, I have loved Poco and Moms. I lived in Silver City and of course have grown fonder and fonder of delicious New Mexico cooking and the hot delicious chili and rellenos. Thus my first adventure to the cantina on Tanque Verde was a roaring success. The place was busy, and it took a bit to get the food, but it was hot, and fresh, and hot in literal ways. Chips and salsa– out of this world salsa– keep you content as the food arrives. The cantina is much larger and has a back patio for more options, so it’s not as jam packed as the tiny location. Plus there’s booze! The food is the same, as in same menu, and same great deliciousness… egg omelettes you want to never end, green chili sizzling in the mouth, enchilada sauce, yummy beans. It is the real deal here. If you haven’t been to a Poco and Moms, it’s worth it to experience real NM food in Tucson. Come for breakfast or lunch or dinner. I just never make it past breakfast. With food this good, it’s hard to find out how good their other menu is!

After a stressful week at work I needed to relax and thought I’d try Poco & Moms as it was on the way home. The coffee was great and I enjoyed the cheese crisp so much I ordered one to go, and that’s what earned them only a 3-star review. I made the mistake of not checking the styrofoam container before leaving the restaurant. I assumed they’d put ½ the cheese crisp in, use a layer of wax paper, and put the rest in. They basically shoved the entire crisp in and by the time I got home it had cooled off and was a blob that did not look like anything I would want to eat. I’m on a tight budget and hate wasting money. Poco and Moms, you just lost a customer.

We bicycle road 25 miles and stopped here for late breakfast/lunch. We sat outdoors with many tables and chairs pulled together to accommodate our group of 20 bicyclists. Well managed in providing chips and salsa, then drinks each one wanted and our meal, with bills per person or couple. No complaints from anyone as 3 egg omelets, or burritos, or tamales were eaten! Yum! Great way to finish a ride… especially with only a short ride back to our cars.

This is a very good example of New Mexican cuisine and perhaps the best Mexican food outside of Mi Niditos. This will definitely be one of the go restaurants for us. You must order the side order of Hatch Green Chili salsa. It comes warm and is pleasantly spicy. The food is very good and the refried beans and rice are the best in Tucson. Good margaritas.

They don’t get the five-star review the original gets. The last visit was a little disappointing. The red sauce was off, just not what I’m accustomed to from them, and way off from what red should be. The green was good. I’ll have to head back down to S. Kolb to see if it’s just the new location.

This place was amazing! I will most definitely be coming back again! The space is very cozy, and they have a friendly full bar waiting for you to order a marg or a bloody mary(both were delicious). Next time I’m going to try their cadillac marg instead of the house. I can’t stress enough how beautiful and awesome it was to enjoy a boozy breakfast on their sunny patio that has a fountain. The food was just right. I felt like I was eating a home cooked meal. They serve breakfast all day.

The reasons I like this place are numerous. For anyone who has ever been to the original Poco and Mom’s on Kolb, but didn’t want to have to wait forever to get a seat because there are only like 6 booths in the place, this is the place for you. I had a little bit of trepidation coming here, initially – thinking its not possible that they could be as good as the original. Well, if you were like me, put your cares away and go have a relaxing, informal, delicious experience at this location instead. The food is the exact same at both locations, and I have had lots of things from their menu. The short list of delicious items for me is the machaca omelette with a side of their white sauce, the red chile chimi, and their home made queso dip are all fantastic. Any plate that comes with sauce can be made«Mexican Flag Style» which is with all three of their sauces(Green Chile, Sour Cream Green Chile, and Red Enchilada) and I highly recommend this. The Green chile is SOOO hot but SOOOO good. Well worth the experience of sweating into your food. Additionally, this location has a gorgeous patio where we often prefer to sit, weather permitting. Between that and the fact that there is just more room in general, makes this the location that is preferable for me. It seems that others are catching on to this idea as well, as the last two times I’ve gone there was a short wait. Hopefully they were flukes, but the business is well deserved regardless!

I had been looking forward to coming here for a while, and my bf and I were able to go on Halloween! It was a Saturday afternoon at around 12:30, but we were able to be seated right away. The inside was smaller than I expected, but instead of feeling crowded it felt cozy and just the right size. The salsa they served with the chips was delicious and not really spicy at all, which was quite exciting for me since I’m usually not a fan of salsa. I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito with potatoes on the side, and it was good but a little plain on its own. However, my bf got the chicken enchiladas with fried eggs on top and a side of refried beans and rice. I added some of his sides onto my burrito in a DIY fashion, and it turned out fantastic together. His meal looked wonderful, especially with all the egg yolk and cheese-y goodness on top of the enchiladas, and he confirmed that it was as tasty as it looked. I’ll probably order it for myself next time. Great meal and atmosphere, and I hope to come back again! Also, don’t forget that they are closed on Mondays!

Poco & Mom’s Kolb location was one of the first(New) Mexican restaurants I tried when I moved here from Colorado a couple of years ago, and it remains my favorite. Their green chili can’t be beat and their refried beans are always perfect. Add super friendly service and a kick-arse patio and I can’t imagine why I bother eating anywhere else! Love, love, love Poco & Mom’s.

I’m from New Mexico and about the only thing I miss is the food… But now I don’t have to miss it! This is just like home and the staff couldn’t be better!(I go often enough my waitress remembers me and helps me mix it up each time) Love, Love, Love! + Super good food(great for hungover mornings) + Green Chili all day long!!! + Great service every time, they make you feel like family. + Did I mention super good food? + The Cantina fulfills all that was missing from the original location + Chill little bar to meet friends for drinks — there’s a tv for game days + Green Chili infused vodka… I have no words + Bloody Mary’s from heaven — Not one negative from me :)

I love this place. The food is the number one draw. They have great recipes and the New Mexico spices are a welcome change. I really like Mexican food in general so I love living in Tucson. There are plenty of places to eat. In general, it’s always good to mix things up once in a while. I would say Poco and Mom’s is better than that. The food is great so I could eat here every day. Also the breakfast is a perfect opportunity to break away from the normal breakfast fast food burritos many of us have become accustomed to eating. Go with a group and eat family style that way you get a chance to sample several of their signature dishes. The salsa that goes with the chips also has a distinctive flavor. Enjoy!!!

Oh weird, I thought I reviewed this new location … Well it is fantastic. Even better than their location on Kolb. My only critique is that they need to put one in on the West Side!!! haha I love the patio with fountain, the misters and the view. It is a great place for eating and meeting. The food is fantastic. I must confess I kind of got stuck on the Best of New Mexico dish. I love it. Such a nice mix of choices — beef taco, Chili Relleno and chicken enchilada with beans and rice. It is a nice feast and there is plenty to share if I have a lovely female companion blinking her dark eye lashes at me from across the table as we sip on ice cold homemade Jamiaca and Horchata … oh yes. But I digress … hmmm where was I. Oh yes, I found what I like and keep ordering it over and over… by that I mean each visit, ordering the same dish. One tip is to ask for some wonderful green Hatch chili salsa as soon as they offer up some chips and red salsa — great combo. For my tender tongue I would say they are Medium Heat. You may have guessed that I have a salsa fetish … well maybe not a fetish … let’s just say I enjoy trying salsas. You may enjoy bathing your food in both wonderful red and green salsa to further stir your taste buds to heightened ecstasy. Okay, well it will just taste gooder … haha. The wait staff is normally very good. If it is packed, they can get bogged down. There are a couple of gals that are quite a hoot. Sparky and fun while being efficient and playful. I did try one desert when I there were a couple of people to share it. It was yummy to the max. I did try a Jalapeño margarita once … too hot for my whimpy palate. It sure looked fantastic. Enjoy, it is exceptional food.

It is definitely good New Mexican food, but overall I thought it was just okay. When we were there it seemed like the AC was out because they had fans in the dining area and it was super humid. I had a margarita and it was just okay. The food we had was good, but I don’t know if it would be my go to place. Definitely go here for the New Mexico vibe, food and chilis if you are in the area.

This place is a delight! My husband brought me into the original one for the first time, and I love it, so I was a little tentative about going to the new one, lest it be a shadow of the original’s splendor. My worries were put to rest. Between the amazing, flavorful food and the awesome service, this is quickly becoming my new favorite restaurant. We have been here a few times, and each time has been awesome. I went in and got the Silver City… Silver Dollar? Silver something. It’s delicious! I will say, day-um, that green chili is super hot! For me. I’m a wimp. My husband really loves it, and I will say it’s amazingly flavorful, but it is not for the faint of heart or taste buds. I wasn’t SUPER hungry last time we went, so I got a quesadilla with green chilies. It comes with beans and rice, and we ate outside on their patio, which was very nice. The wind caught the water in the fountain so it was kind of like a mister system. Anyway, they have really, really good beans. They are perfect and delicious and amazing. Second best in the city as far as I’m concerned. I did find a fly in my iced tea, but hey, I was eating outside… it’s to be expected. The waiter offered to bring out another, but we were already paying so I just drank my husband’s. I would really recommend them for anyone looking for an awesome breakfast or lunch. I’m not sure of they are open for dinner, but if they are, you should go here for that, too!

YUM and YUM. Slightly less great than Café Poca Cosa, but a fine mexican meal. There was loads of parking, we went on a Saturday around 11am. We each had a prickly pear margarita, and that might be my only complaint — it was $ 8 and large but weak, and not the deep purple color of prickly pear(really the best part). But the gal who made it was nice and the people at the bar were friendly. The chips and salsa were excellent– the thin crispy chips(still warm) and a perfectly balanced red salsa with just the right kick of heat. There was a wait even though the back dining room was ½ empty– I think they are listening to their Unilocal reviews that said service was lacking — so they are only seating what they can handle serving well. We were seated in the bar area after about a 10 minute wait — talked to the waiter about what to order — he recommended the sour cream chili sauce– and the enchiladas with eggs caught my eye, so I got that with the pork, beans, rice & salad. My man(recently my fiancé, which is crazy!) loves a chile relleno and the chile rellleno breakfast burrito looks great in the photos. Looking back I wish we had ordered him just the chile rellenos straight up. He got it «christmas Style» — meaning red sauce on one side, green on the other. He enjoyed it, but my meal was better. …and like Elaine Benice on Seinfeld — I don’t want to «yada yada over the best part» so I must mention the sopapillas with sugar and honey… I was on the fence since I knew we had ordered too much food already, but the plates were only about $ 9/piece so I figured I could treat myself to $ 3 worth of deep fried heaven. I probably would have been happy with them alone, wooo-whee…they sure were tasty! . We thought the service was excellent, if that part of these Unilocal review is holding you back, don’t let it, I think they are working it out.
