I am an admitted yard sale & thrift/vintage shop junkie. I also love re-purposing items other people find little to no value in – seeing the beauty in a «diamond in the rough.» St. Vincent de Paul’s at Five Points curbs my cravings for such things. I always make such interesting discoveries at St. V’s. My last visit, I was hoping to find some vintage glassware for my bar/kitchen and ended up with a few sweet pieces, IMO(including a marble ash tray I couldn’t resist for $ 2. I don’t smoke, but started collecting them for some reason). As happens most of the time, I left with more than I originally intended to purchase. It was the first Saturday of the month, and they markdown most items 50% on the first and third Saturdays. I came out with glass/bar wares, a nearly new trench coat, several clothing items(of COURSE I needed a pink poodle skirt!), and some Monty Python videos for under $ 40. I was pleased as punch! St. Vincent’s can be a little disorganized in some areas of the store, but it can be worth digging a little if you know what you’re after(if you’re the patient type). The outside area behind the store is very random and has more of a «yard sale» vs. «thrift shop» feel. Venture out there if you dare, but keep in mind you need to be a VERY patient person. Beyond scouring for cheap & unique finds at St. V’s, they also accept donations of clothing, etc. during the week. They have a room set aside aside for those struggling financially to receive clothing, and recipients can visit once a week — until they have no need to do so anymore. It’s a great place to invest your resources.

My favorite thrift because it is cheap and plentiful. If you want to buy a basket, they are 25 cents outside in the yard. Actually most things in the yard are under a $ 1. There is always a dollar rack for clothes and the store provides vouchers for low income to browse next door for free. You can find some nice furniture and some of it was spanking new like a mattress set inside plastic. The books outside are 10 cents each and sometimes they forget to cover them. No tax on your clothes bc this is really a non-profit as opposed to Goodwill, etc. Hours are 10 – 6 Mon-Sat. Closed on Sundays.
