It’s closing! Zachary’s is definitely part of the UA experience. I don’t eat deep-dish pizzas very often, but this has to be one fo the most intense pizzas ever. I read on Unilocal that it would take a while to cook the pizza, so patience was key. Zachary’s is one of the more divey places I’ve been to, and in Tucson, that’s a bit surprising. Their door is a literal wooden house door, and their windowsill could use a bit of a cleaning(I counted 5+ flies that met their demise). We ordered the Big Z since I had heard great things. The pizza was good and had to be eaten with a knife and fork. It was, admittedly, a bit too cheesy for my taste. I won’t be able to go again before it closes, but everyone should at least try it before it’s gone forever!

I don’t know why people are always complaining about the service. Sure, it’s not top-notch service, but what do you expect when you sit down at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant? The pizza itself is heavenly. I always go there with several friends, and we can all eat our fill for about $ 5 a person. Order a whole pizza, and while it may take 40 minutes to bake, it will be absolutely delicious when it comes out of the oven. I am very disappointed that it is closing. This place brought me so many wonderful memories.

I love Zachary’s for two reasons 1) the beer is reasonably priced(not quite cheap, but less expensive than the other restaurants in the area) 2) the pizza is amazing. Those are the only things to Zachary’s. It’s kinda dirty, you sit in plastic lawn chairs, and it takes a long time for your pizza to cook — but who cares? It’s not fine dining, just delicious. I would give this place 4.5 stars if that were an option!

The best deep dish pizza in town, but I do recommend ordering by the pizza– give yourself some extra time to wait for it to cook but it’s so worth it. Went here hungry a few times and ordered by the slice and it’s not nearly as good– much drier crust and not much bang for your buck. Also they’re happy to provide fresh garlic to load on top with your parm and peppers– just do it!

I had first heard of Zachary’s in a reference from my physics professor who always said that en electron infinitely far away from away from the nucleus of an atom was as though it was south of Zachary’s(and the nucleus is the physics building). I didn’t learn what Zachary’s really was until a year later when my roommate mentioned deep dish pizza. By the time I actually came here, it was two year after it was first referenced to me. My friends and I were incredibly excited. We ordered the Big Z, and it did not disappoint. It was my first time ever having deep dish pizza, and it was so good. Unfortunately, I was full after just one slice. Service was gregarious and we were expecting the wait to be a little long, so we came early. The pizza arrived just in time for us to be hungry. The place itself looks a little shabby, but it’s all part of the character.

I hope you are hungry… Zachary’s is not the place I would go to for just a slice. Thick crust and generous toppings are sure to slow down even the best trained competitive eater. Zachary’s is filled is U of A students and alum who are ready to eat before a game or for a starving broke college student a meal that will last a couple of days. While the service is friendly, be prepared to wait a bit for your pizza as everything is made fresh in the back and a pizza that thick is going to take some time. Carve out some time to get through the whole pie.

Finally got a chance to come to this place. The atmosphere’s good for any size group. Right by the U of A, it is a good hiding spot for those craving some delicious, genuine pizza. The service is wonderful. They’re well-staffed, and they were attentive to our needs. My friends decided to get individual slices, and they themselves were good enough to have a meal. I cannot wait to try out the 12″ sometime. I would definitely advise friends to come here for their service. This place is amazing, and I cannot wait to come back.

First, I wouldn’t consider this deep dish pizza, but very thick. That said, the pizza was great. They have lots of different combinations you can pick from on a funny menu. I was also impressed with their beer selection.

Zachary’s has, without a doubt, the best deep dish pizza I’ve ever eaten. Please don’t bother coming here if you don’t like thick crust or lots of cheese. We always order the Double Whammy with pepperoni & mushrooms. The double part is a massive layer of mozzarella. Absolutely to die for! The crust, sauce, everything is obviously high quality and delicious. We normally order carry out, but the one time we did eat there the service was great. It is a dive and there isn’t A/C as others have mentioned, which is the main reason we get carry out. If you do eat in the restaurant, yes it’s a long wait, real deep dish is always at least 30 minutes, but they have a great beer selection. We have 4 people in our family and a medium is enough with leftovers to spare. Wonderful local place.

The Story: If Hubs is going to be watching ND football, then he’s going to want pizza. If he wants pizza, then he will default to Papa John’s. If he defaults to Papa John’s, then I’m not going to want any pizza. The Challenge: Find a good enough and cheap enough za before the ND game begins. Yesterday, I did. According to Unilocal’s averages, Zachary’s would not disappoint, and it didn’t. For $ 15, we ordered a Medium Pepperoni Deep Dish Pizza to go, which lasted us two meals. For rizzle. I was full after two slices, and I can eat a lot. Not bad, eh? The deep dish itself was gooood. It had just the right amount of sauce, pepperoni, and cheese, although the cheese didn’t seem to want to stay ON the pizza. It was a constant battle to hold it down with my hands or fork. And the crust was over the top crispy, almost hard, but soft enough to eat without pulling teeth. It was like under-seasoned bread in need of some herbs or butter, or something. Even so, it was a delicious deep dish. I give it a solid 4. Unilocal gives it a 4. I’m happy we agree.

Went here with a big group of friends to celebrate a birthday and must say it’s good for group eating and sharing of pizza. The servings are huge! I thought the pizza was a bit bread-heavy and another person in our group felt it was loaded with too much cheese. Other than that, no complaints. The prices are very reasonable and the service is good and being on the campus by Arizona Stadium is very cool. I like the pizza at Renee’s and Rocco’s a lot better but this place was OK.

Well After being hyped up to go to this place and get some really good chicago style pizza, I was kinda let down. Earlier in the day I told a friend I was going here and he was like«Dood OMG that place is tha Bomb!» So I was ready for some pizza goodness. Unfortunately, this place wasn’t all that its rumored to be. The place didn’t have any kind of air conditioning going… ATALL! I would have totally picked another spot due to the fact that it was already a hot day and it was seriously no exaggeration, hotter inside than outside. Wait I take that back they actually did condition the air in there… with an oscillating fan. 1 of them! The tables were all sticky and Im not sure if it was because it was kinda dingy or if it was because it was 95 degrees in there with about 70% humidity. Anyhow on to the food. I was super stoked to get the 12″ Big Z deep dish. It took about an hour to come out, which is no big deal when your doing a deep dish like this. Once this thing finally came to the table I was salivating like crazy, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a slice. I took one and we photographed it on my plate. It held together nicely and looked amazing. However I was a bit disappointed with it after all. The dough to toppings ratio was a bit off. it seemed instead of a good dough to substance ratio I ended up with a huge base crust as well as the sidewall crust that was no joke at least 1.25″ — 1.5″ in thick and hard as a rock! Now, Im not a eat with a knife and fork complain about everything type of person, so just bear with me when I tell you I hadn’t eaten a damn thing all day and I still had to chuck the crust… and half the bottom. I even had a side of ranch! UGH. So the other pizza was a thin crust 50⁄50 iko iko and a smokey western. What seemed to be a common theme between the two pizza’s were the fact that the onions and peppers came out on the pizza still kinda raw and hard. I guess they were turning and burning them so fast that they didn’t give them the extra time in the oven. The IKOIKO had garlic, cheddar extra onion, sausage and cayenne pepper. This one was actually not to bad it had good heat and was definitely a good choice of toppings, but the one I was really excited for the 50% half with the ham, cheddar, onion, and green chili’s was actually kinda nasty. It was way too soggy, and there again we had hard onions. The chili’s saved the pizza but i’ll never recommend this one. In fact if you want a good chicago style go to Rocco’s.

Best Chicago-style pizza in town! I’ve frequented this place since 1994, when it was located across the street from it’s present location. Zach’s offers a great selection of pizzas, but we usually go for the Big Z(their version of a supreme). These pieces are big and filling so you’ll want to order less than you would at a typical chain place. The décor isn’t near as cute here as the old place, but the owner is very slowly upgrading. The quality of the pizza out-weighs the need for AC and new carpet. Also, the bar offers a nice selection of beers and always has Guiness on tap!

Take a seat in a dingy white plastic patio chair and carve your initials in the table as you wait for the waitress who will undoubtedly be complaining about her kid or the weather or the customers at the next table. A decent beer selection, although I hoped for an interesting hefeweizen to pair with a slice of cheesy ‘zaa. Just so we’re clear, I’m a toppings girl. Pre-Zachary’s Taylor would prefer a slice of good ol’ New York Style; less bread and more mushrooms, pineapple, spinach, mozzarella and sauce. If you feel similarly, I can relate — the bread doesn’t add much flavor and it just fills you up faster for cheaper. Zachary’s will change this idea forever in my mind. As you make your way from the tip of the slice towards the thick crust you’ll find yourself scarfing away trying to get there faster — the crust is the grand finale to the most delicious pizza you’ll ever taste. It has a buttery, almost flaky pastry-like flavor with a fantastic chewy texture. Try dipping the crust in a side of creamy ranch dressing, oh yum. We’ve all had the disappointment of eating at a particularly good restaurant, then going back another time and having a different experience. I’ve eaten at Zachary’s a hundred times and it’s been nothing but consistent, for years. The pizza is always delicious; they never burn the bottom like so many other places I’ve tried. The same smiling waitresses have been there, too. One of the best feelings in the world is, after a delicious meal, getting the bill and feeling like wow I would pay twice this to eat that again! Zachary’s will never fail to give you the most satisfied feeling as you walk out the door.

This place freakin rocks. First, in your zachary’s experience, can you even find the place? They have pretty much no signage. «is it this building??? no, i think its this one! No wait, here it is! The one with the fluorescent beer signs! Can you say, DIVE? Ok, theres gonna be a wait… for your pizza. Its gotta cook for christs sake, and the pizza’s like a mile deep, so i sure hope you brought something to do in the meantime. That dinner salad idea you’re having? Im not even sure they offer salads anymore, but regardless it would only occupy about half the time youre gonna need to fill. Tell you what, do what the locals do, skip the salad, and get started on like 5 or 6 beers while you wait. The ‘pints’ here are way bigger than pints, btw. So get your fill. The menu has literally nothing but pizza beer and salad(maybe just pizza and beer these days) on it. Genius! My personal favorite is the Athenian. Hands-down best greek-style pizza ever. I usually order at least the 14 inch to go. People look at that 14 bucks for a 14 inch pizza and think its a ripoff until they realize that they will only be able to eat 1 or 2 slices. You and your spouse now just got fed two full meals each for 14 bucks, that’s a damn good deal. Make sure when your order finally comes out that you get several sides of their house-made ranch and blue cheese dressings. Freaking delicious! I try to get extras of the blue cheese just to bring home afterwards and use on other stuff. I really need to get that recipe… can i get that recipe? I need that recipe, dammit!!! Quick tip: If you’re in a bit of a rush, or don’t want to wait in their restaurant for 30 minutes for your pizza, call 45 minutes ahead and order so it will be hot and ready when you get there.

It has been over 10 years since I have been to Zachary’s but I went there today with the fam and we got a Cha Cha Cha(chicken, green chili, cheddar) and a Big Z(green pepper, pepperoni, sausage, onion) Positive: there is so much cheese on the Cha Cha Cha that I had to use a fork for the pizza(it was FAB!), the pizza was fresh and delicious(this is some of the best pizza I have ever had), the Big Z and the Cha Cha Cha were loaded with toppings, the waitress was super friendly and had no problem with the fact that we got their 15 or so minutes before the other people in our party she was happy to keep checking on us, the patrons in their(other than us of course) were super friendly and ok with the fact that my niece was running around places Negative: I do wish that there was less sauce(but I could have ordered it that way) Things to know: it WILL take at least 30 minutes to get your pizza because the pizza is think, there is no sign in front of the building(it is on the side), there are only 6 parking spots with a meter in the parking area(the rest is permit parking only) so you may need to park on the street.

You can NEVER go wrong at Zachary’s! Best deep dish pizza in Tucson. We love all of their specialty pizzas! A couple of tips: 1. If you order a large, you’ll only need one piece to fill you up. Two at best. 2. It’s hard to find because there is no obvious signage… so look for the pedestrian crosswalk. 3. Mmmm… not so clean. Pretty much a dive, but worth the pizza. 4. Be ready for a 40 – 50 minute wait for your pizza. Good deep dish with lots of toppings takes a while to cook. 5. Don’t bother going on UofA game night… its PACKED. 6. Don’t lock the bathroom door… you’ll never get out!!! Gave it 4 stars just because of the wait. The food is a 5 for sure!

Not a lot more can be said that hasn’t been already. It is an utter dive to say the least. But we went on St. Patty’s Day to avoid crowds elsewhere as we knew they had Guinness on tap. Our group called ahead and ordered our pizza. It was ready when we arrived. The pizza is a good deep dish. Whether or not its Chicago style, I cannot say as I have no experience there. I like it for what it is. And the pints of Guinness were $ 3.25. Can’t complain about that. I had fun watching some basketball on the TV, eating pizza, and drinking a beer with the coworkers.

Years ago I drank pitchers and pitchers and possibly even a keg’s worth of free beer at Zachary’s. Ah good old college days of taking advantage of my roommate’s job perks. This place is absolutely local and any reviews disputing that are wrong. The pizza is heavy, even the thin crust is thick. My go to is the 5 cheese(the feta is amazing) on thin crust add garlic and artichoke hearts. I dream about this pizza and can’t wait to eat it this weekend when I’m in town!
