My husband has been dealing with this credit union for a month to fix a problem with his car loan that he received only one month ago! Right from the get-​go they are showing their incompetence. My husband made his car payment early to make sure it went through and this payment has since disappeared! We go through US Bank usually and they see that his money was sent from his account to BECU and from there is it gone! Not posted to the car loan! He has been on the phone with them and US Bank now for a month trying to get this resolved. Their customer service has been awful and they have completely misplaced everything US Bank has sent them! I will never do anything with BECU ever again! By the way, US Bank has been great during all this, attempting to help as much as they can as well.

The worst bank for a business account by far, and i have used many other banks. Not-​for-​profit? The bank does. not give any grace period, even chase gives you the end of the day grace period. They process transaction after business hour to collect nsf.

I appreciate BECU’s communication after the poor experience. Hopefully they will get the business banking side of the house in order soon.

One of the worst Customer Service by phone!!! I’ve been member with them in the past 5 year and now I am thinking to cancel both my account. My latest bad experiences was 10 minutes ago, called Customer Service of why my online ticket purchase which only cost $ 80 (I still have $ 4900 credit limit) was DECLINED? Called 1800 number at 3 am, put on hold for 50 minutes, transfer to Security department who asking another stupid question, again put me on hold with all excuses ! My question was very simple, why my first and second ticket transaction went through while my third transaction did not go through? she could not answer and seems VERY un-​professional ! FYI, with American Express they valued their customer, solving and answer my question less than 3 minutes, professional and courtesy ! With BECU, 1 hour and 10 minutes with confusion result !!!
Time to leave this mickey mouse credit union!

Generally they do fine managing my accounts, but if there is ever an issue I will ALWAYS dread having to call customer service. The reps are not friendly or helpful, and every time I call there is a different issue WITH BECU. I only give it two stars because when I complain about the service mangaement eventually finds a way to make it up to me, but frankly it is annoying to have to go through that. I am already having an issue, then I have to take it further to contact management to complain about the customer service (or lack thereof) just so I can get my original issue adequately addressed? They have proven to be unreliable, inconsistent, and lacking any regard for customers. I don’t recommend them and in fact we are actively shopping for a new bank! I’m tired of BECU’s BS!!!

After years as a small business customer I am leaving. This bank has become Bank of America in terms of its policies regarding small business banking.

Another vote warning away from the loan department. Tried to work through them years ago and ended up going elsewhere because the loan officer kept messing up. I have very good credit and have never missed a payment on my current mortgage. I’m relocating and decided to try them again, but my application was denied, even though the monthly payments would be abut the same as my current payment. There are lots of places that are easier to deal with, don’t waste your time with them.

Do not use this organization for a home loan. I’ve been banking with them for 20 years and thought that they would do a good job because of my experience with them in the past.
This was a mistake.
Their loan processing is glacial, and they are unable to inform me of important dates. For example, three days before closing I called them up to inquire if everything was still good. They informed me that my closing date had actually been moved back a week. I shouldn’t have had to call them to get this information. This is an important date that they should have kept me informed of. This forced me to cancel my movers and ask my landlord for more time to move out.

All Unilocal reviewers, after being contacted by the Becu lending department it would seem this matter is unlikely to be resolved due to the inability of the compliance department to be deal with out of norm cases. The compliance Dept seems to have become complacent in researching other competitors in how they resolve these type of situations. (Learn from your competitors, what a novel concept…)
Although I applaud the timely fashion of communication, it still shouldn’t have not gotten to the point of a member needing to write a review on a review website in order to get someone’s attention to resolve an issue. Especially when talking to numerous agents within the organization itself in which 90% of them were not helpful.
If I could leave zero stars I would, and I will warn other members in my network of my situation to think twice about banking and lending with Becu. Especially with their fraudulent marketing slogan about putting members first, which doesn’t appear to be in this case.

I have been told by many people how great BECU is how I need to change banks from my 20-​year relationship with Bank of America so when I got my new car I went with them only to find out that they don’t have an automated pay program. Instead I schedule my payments through online banking which is a convenience that B of A affords me, not BECU.
I decided not long ago that I wanted to add a tender to my boat and went in to BECU and spoke to someone there who assured me that a boat loan was no issue. I showed him pictures of the boat, he ran my credit and I was instantly approved. He said that I would just need to fax some paperwork (yeah he said fax) from the dealer (this is a brand new boat) and I would be able to pick up my check at any location. Sounds great right? WRONG!
I made an appointment to go to the main office in Tukwila and was really happy with the ease of getting this loan until I got there. First off, the building feels like being at the DSHS or the DMV and is the antithesis of a positive customer experience. That is when and where I met Leah who has supposedly been there for over ten years but didn’t have a clue how a boat loan works.
I spent over an hour of my day sitting with her and she kept telling me that I didn’t have enough documentation for the loan. I called the dealer and even had her talk to him at one point (which she was very apprehensive of) and he agreed to send in his factory invoice which shouldn’t have been necessary.
Then she calls me the next day and tells me that her processor told her they can’t loan on the boat because it is a pontoon boat. What??? After all of this including running my credit NOW you come back to me and tell me you can’t furnish the loan.
BECU is a joke and I already have talked to two other banks about refinancing my car loan (currently with BECU) and I need to refinance my main boat as well as pull a HELOC out of my condo for a down payment on a house. None of this is going to happen with BECU. I will never step foot in any of their institutions again and would like to send them a bill for my time wasted and the unnecessary hard inquiry on my credit report.

The fact I have to drive down to Tukwila to cash a check is ridiculous. I’m not sure why they even have people at their other locations sitting behind desks, because they can’t do anything. In the past, I’ve tried to get a cashier’s check (no, we can’t do that), transfer funds, (another no-​no) and of course, get cold hard cash when their ATM isn’t working. They are unable to open the ATM and need someone «special» to take care of said ATM. Get a key! Get a key!
As I will be driving down to Tukwila today for basic banking needs– cashing a check that their two ATMS in Ballard and Queen Anne won’t take plus their ridiculous app (who designed that awful thing?!) AND also to change my pin AND order a new debit card since the whole chunk of plastic is fraying, I will be gritting my teeth.
Bank elsewhere for convenience, real banking experience. This place is a joke. Oh, and to add: if you use an ATM at one of their «partner» credit unions, you will be charged a fee for breaking down the money– say a $ 10 into quarters because BECU brokered their agreement that way. *Facepalm

Great customer service, low interest rates, LOTS and LOTS of ATM’s world wide. No foreign transaction fees on their credit card and great conversion rates on currency.
Fraud handling was very quick and efficient.
The online banking and the iPhone APP is wonderful.

To Whom It May Concern:
I would like to bring to your attention an issue I am experiencing with the local credit union, Boeing Employees Credit Union (BECU) as well as the credit reporting agency Experian. I have been asking BECU to accurately report the credit accounts I held with them in the past for over a year. I have mounted an exhaustive effort with BECU in an attempt to get them to correctly report credit accounts by providing them with documentation and case law to show the manner in which they are reporting my accounts is inaccurate and damaging. It is my hope that by bringing this to your attention, this matter can be resolved and that I can get on with my life.
Case Background and Presenting Issue
In August, 2009, I filed a chapter 13 bankruptcy in the Western District of Washington. This bankruptcy provided a 5-​year payment plan, in which all payments were made to the bankruptcy trustee, K. Michael Fitzgerald. The resulting case was discharged in September, 2014 after successful completion During that time, there were over eighty creditors involved in the plan, including BECU.
All these accounts were included in the original bankruptcy filing, and were subsequently discharged after the case concluded.
Violation of a Bankruptcy Permanent Injunction by BECU
BECU is reporting negative activity on discharged debts after the filing date of the bankruptcy. This is causing me to be denied credit. Most recently, I was denied a mortgage due to the manner in which they are reporting my accounts. The way they are reporting reflects late payments and charge off accounts after the filing date, which is a major hurdle for anybody to overcome should it happen. To the contrary, their accounts were included in the bankruptcy, and I made all of the payments to the bankruptcy trustee on time. I received a discharge in September, 2014 which signifies successful completion of my chapter 13 program. The manner in which BECU is reporting the accounts shows contrary to that.
I have approached BECU on a number of occasions to report this, and each time they claim they are reporting the accounts accurately, and they refuse to fix their reporting.
* My BECU credit card account was reported as 90 days late in September, 2014 as well as a charge off in the same month on my Experian credit report. As a consequence, the seven-​year clock did not begin until that date. As a consequence, this account will remain on my credit report until September, 2021. The account should actually be deleted in August, 2016. But due to BECU’s error, this account will remain on my credit report for an additional 5 years. They have been unwilling to correct this.
* My BECU auto loan (ending in 7635) was reported as 90 days late in December, 2010 as well as a charge off in the same month on my Experian credit report. As a consequence, the seven-​year clock did not begin until that date. As a consequence, this account will remain on my credit report until December, 2017. The account should actually be deleted in August, 2016. But due to BECU’s error, this account will remain on my credit report for an sixteen months. They have been unwilling to correct this.
* My BECU loan (beginning with 1001xxxxx) was reported as 90 days late in September, 2014 and a charge off account in the same month on my Experian credit report. As a consequence, the seven-​year clock did not begin until that date. As a consequence, this account will remain on my credit report until September, 2021. The account should actually be deleted in August, 2016. But due to BECU’s error, this account will remain on my credit report for an additional 5 years. They have been unwilling to correct this.
* My BECU auto loan (ending in 1627) appears to be reporting accurately on all three credit bureaus.
Supporting United States Caselaw
According to the FTC Advisory Opinion Letter to Lovern dated 4÷24÷1998, the manner in which an account is reported to the credit bureaus should follow the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which states the following when addressing charged off accounts:
Section 607(b) of the FCRA requires credit bureaus «to follow reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy of the information concerning the individual about whom the report relates.» In our view, it is not a reasonable procedure to label an account that has been discharged in bankruptcy as «charged off as bad debt» if the account was open and not charged off when the consumer filed bankruptcy. Such a designation would be inaccurate or misleading, because it would indicate that the creditor had written off the account at the time of bankruptcy when it had not in fact done so.

While creditors are required to charge-​off bankrupted debts for their internal accounting, they are NOT supposed to report that charge-​off to the credit bureaus, according to federal law.

If you plan on banking here or applying for any loans through BECU… run away and DON’T DO IT!!! The customer service here has been horrible and when they make errors (which they will) good luck on getting them to fix it! They are reporting a car loan incorrectly and we’ve been trying to get them to fix it for over two years. Every time we finally talk to someone (after a run around of transfers over the phone), we are told it is being fixed! Well low and behold it is never fully taken care of and is now causing us to have issues getting a Mortgage! So thank you BECU for being a horrible financial institution!!!

terrible excuse for a bank. If you need any sort of real banking needs this is NOT the place to go. They won’t advise if there are sufficient funds for a check; even to other banks, do you realize you can only cash checks at their Tukwila branch? Crazy.

I only have positive things to say about this bank.
1. It’s a credit union, so your money comes from your community. They do a lot for local community.
2. No fees unlike other commercial banks.
3. Customer service/​notary services are excellent.
4. They don’t outsource their calls! It’s easy to get a representative on the line.
5. They treat you like a person and not just a number.

I really wish Unilocal would have a 0 star rating because this place would get it.
We are absolutely having the WORST car loan experience.
I can’t wait for an opportunity to refinance to USAA. If I had known how horrible BECU was, we would have chosen our original option when we purchased our car.
The customer service agent that called this morning, I was forced to hang up on. I’m a grown woman & I do not really appreciate the fact I have some customer service agent who wants to talk to me like I’m her 5 year old child.

I had a good impression on BECU and had heard great things about them. I am banking with them since last 2 years and happy with my checkings/​savings/​LOC. However the challenge came when I applied for a Home Equity Line of Credit. I walked into their branch and the representative ran my credit report and since it was Excellent I was offered 3.99% with upto 95% home to loan value. The representative told me someone will call me from the bank a couple of days later and will complete my application. However people from BECU home loan called me after one week and during the process the representative gave me an estimate that was almost 20% less than the actual value. He immediately sent me a report explaining how they evaluate the value of the house. This is where the actual surprise/​shock came to me. CoreLogic, whom BECU use for their evaluation, are using a system that compares a 4Bed/2.5bath, 2008 built, 2 story, 2200sqft living area with a 1bed/​1bath 1939 built 1 story, 1300sqft home and quoting the 1929 built house value more than the 2008 built bigger house. Seriously? How can a system evaluate a house 20% less than the market value?
And then the representative went on giving me all reasons on how they evaluate, etc. Then came another shock the representative started saying since I have an Excellent credit my rates are at 6.24%(2.25% more than what was offered to me at the bank). I was not in front of my computer and didn’t have access to my system where I had recorded the rates which the representative had mentioned to me in the bank branch. So I hung up the phone and dialed them a few minutes later with all the details. Now a different representative picked up the phone and after initial verification, she went on saying «The representative in the branch made a MISTAKE and give me wrong information». When I asked why am I being mislead because of the mistake your representative has given she said «we are all humans and mistakes happen». Seriously? Is it so easy to say MISTAKES happen in banking and just an apology? Not only did she start speaking rude after this however went on and disconnected the phone.
Very sorry to say that BECU home loan representatives not only cheat their members by giving incorrect information but also rude. I will seriously think from next time before considering BECU for my loan needs.

Didn’t quite make it to the bank in time to cash your paycheck on Friday? Too bad, apparently BECU’s unique way of doing business includes not having any tellers on the weekend, at any branch, anywhere. Just a bunch of people standing around offering to open an account for you. Unless you’ve got too much outstanding medical debt, in which case you can just take your paycheck and shove it until the following Monday.
I really did want an account. Sorry I’ve been sick too many times in my life, BECU. Wells Fargo let me open an account, and has helped me rebuild my credit in the process. BECU helpfully gives you as much information on credit repair as a Google search and tells you to get the hell out until you’ve fixed it yourself. Really? Fairer treatment and better service at a bank than a credit union? Congratulations BECU, you’ve actually found a way to make credit unions look as bad as banks.
Never mind the fact that, when they are open, there’s generally no more than 5 or 6 active tellers at any time, providing service with a consistent 20 – 30 wait time, practically any day of the week.
Don’t let them trick you: their service on weekends is the equivalent of going to a car dealership and finding out that, no, there aren’t any cars or salesman — just a bunch of people who look like car salesmen at a distance who want to sign you up for dealership services, whether you actually have a car or not.
As a non-​member who just wants his paycheck cashed at a convenient time, BECU is horrible. They might be great if you have a membership, but I wouldn’t know. I’ve been sick too many times to try to find out.
Please don’t respond to this post to tell me you’ve passed it along, BECU reps. Nobody’s going to do anything.

My husband and I chose BECU to go through for our home loan because of the good experience we’ve had working with this local credit union for our banking, and because they offered perks of providing us with a so-​called «vetted» real estate agent to work with as well as a rebate at closing.
We should have shopped around!
It took a month for us to get a pre-​approval letter for the correct amount we are qualified for because of «special circumstances» that the loan officer did not understand (my husband changed jobs and I own a small business, which both seem pretty typical circumstances) and the underwriter took weeks to look over the documents we provided as soon as they were requested.
Things were not explained to us along the way and we rarely received updates on the process, but rather needed to check in with our loan officer in order to get updates.
As first time home buyers, what we really needed was to have professionals who have been through this process time and time again answering questions for us before we knew to ask them.
We never were sure who was handling the case during the process and weren’t aware of who was doing what job or who we needed to speak to get things done.
To top it all off, because of a several day delay in handling paperwork on BECU’s and the Escrow company’s part, we closed three days later than originally planned. We did not find out that we weren’t to close as expected until late afternoon on our original closing day, which was after we’d worked hard to get the notary to us so we could close «on time» and had wired our down payment.
This negligence put us out of time and money, caused a delay in vital work being done on the house and was extremely frustrating!
If you are desiring to get a home loan, especially as a first time home buyer, go elsewhere.
Although it appears to be working for its «members,» the BECU Home Loan department doesn’t behave as if customer service for their members is very important to them.
