I went in looking for a good beginner lens for a new Canon DLSR camera. I explained I am a novice and just wanted something simple to take pictures of my 1 year old and said a few friends had suggested the Canon 50 mm. I’d already done research and Amazon has that lens for $ 115 but I like supporting local businesses. When I went in, they pulled the lens I inquired about. It was $ 133. Again, I like supporting local businesses so I’m ok with the higher price. The person helping me then pulled another lens out and tried to sell me that one. How much is this I asked… $ 650! What? I need a $ 650 lens for taking everyday photos of my son? Then she pulled out a used lens and when I asked how much, it was $ 800. I can’t believe they would think this is a good way to get business. I will not be going in again.

50% markup is just ridiculous. I bought a UV filter for my Canon EOS, but found a comparable filter for half the price at BestBuy. The counter lady convinced me that they were just that expensive everywhere. Not true. This is the only reason I don’t give more stars. The people here are friendly, but I will shop around next time. If you need film hand processed or specialty equipment, I’m sure this is Tulsa’s place to go, but for many items pays to shop around.

Im a local photographer and have sent my boyfriend in to Apertures to pick odds and ends for me(film, batteries, prints ect.). For Christmas he wanted to get me something photo related and didn’t want to ask me for help! Having stopped in the store many times for me he went to Apertures and the folks there were able to give him a myriad of ideas and were able to offer the pros and cons of each item. End result — he got me an awesome monopod that I had been wanting. Thanks Apertures for pointing him in the right direction!

This place hand processes film, no scratching the negatives! They have ordered specialty equipment for me and I have been very happy with it. They sell all kinds of things you need for photography. They have a row of computers where I guess you can modify pix and print, or something like that. They buy used camera equipment I hate the parking lot, it is on a pretty steep grade. On the drivers side, the door wants to get out of your hand and hit the car next to you. From the passenger side, it takes pushing the door out with my foot to get it open, and keeping it from slamming back on your shin and breaking your leg. Over the several decades I have gone here, there have been a couple of times I thought the owners’ attitude wasn’t want it should be, but I am glad they are here regardless.

So, I studied abroad in Prague during college and took a photography and art history class. I could barely afford the experience and definitely didn’t have the cash moneys to buy a digital SLR. Thus, I brought my small point and shoot camera on the journey and vigorously took notes to hopefully transfer when obtaining a big ol’ camera. Welp, a year later my savings earned me a camera. However, my notes looked like a foreign language by then. I’m here to tell you that Apertures has the staff and equipment you need to feel confident — no matter what your skill level. Also, they print fantastic photos. We took our wedding photos to be developed here with a matte finish and was so pleased with the result!

20 years of experience speaks for itself. You will get much better customer service than the camera gallery offers. They also have a school!

This place is awesome. I was looking for some specialty film and they are just about the only place in the tri-state that had it.(You suck, Wolf Camera!) It’s one of those places that makes you feel like a better photographer just because you go to Apertures. A little cooler, a little more talented… The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the people that work there know so much about photography that for a novice such as myself it is both overwhelming and intimidating. I didn’t understand what the nice man was babbling about– he was just word vomiting letters and numbers that don’t go together in my world, and I was nodding along blankly, too afraid to stop him and tell him I was lost. I guess that’s my fault, though, isn’t it?
