I became an AT&T customer through their purchase of Cingular years ago and this is the store I’ve always gone to. Over the last few years they’ve slowly become sleazier(don’t know if it’s ATT or just this store) but it’s gotten out of hand. During my last visit I felt like I was at a car dealership being with the shifty salesman trying to throw on as man hidden extras as possible. Here’s what happened. I took my mother in to upgrade her iPhone and after we told them what we wanted they kept pushing for us to buy their accessories. I turned them down and we went and sat down to go over everything. Our salesperson went in the back and came back with his manager, the phone, a tablet and a group of accessories. He then tried to sell us again on the accessories and I said no we’re good. He then said we were eligible for a free tablet with our purchase and sort of breezed over the added data plan you’d have to do. When I called him out on it he said well we’d get the tablet free but we’d have to sign a 2 year data contract for $ 20 a month meaning it would cost just shy of $ 500. I said hell no. He then pulled up my mom’s account and started hounding her about her services trying to get her to sign up for their tv plan and up her internet and add features to her home phone she’s cancelled in the past because she doesn’t need or use them. All the while his manager would regularly stop in and sit at our table for a few minutes to make sure he was giving us the hard sell before wandering off. It took about an hour to walk out with the phone because of all the sales pitches. I’m also sick to death of the AT&T U-Verse people harassing me sometimes multiple times a day to sign up for their services. I know where to find you there’s no need to check on my interest several times a week.
