In my donut world, there is only Shipley’s and Krispy Kreme. Both are to die for hot. I wouldn’t bother in the afternoons, as they tend to cook in the AM and then sell from that batch all day. By lunchtime, they’re not the same experience.

If you want an absolute real do-nut, this is the place to eat. For starters, this is not your typical Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts type of place, in fact I refuse to eat either one of those establishments after eating at this place. Go for the Bear Claws, Butterfly Rolls, Cinnamon Twist/Roll and just the plain olé Glazed and Do-Nut Holes, these are my favorites. Also for something a bit more savory, try the kolaches!

I remember Shipley’s from when I was a teenager. Since it was on the way to Tupelo High, those of us who had our own cars would stop by and pick up a bag of donut holes. There was nothing like being stuck in traffic and noshing on these warm, slightly crunchy, and doughy treats. I stopped by one day in early 2010 just to see if they’re still the same. Yes, they are still wonderful, sweet(but not disgustingly sweet like Krispy Kreme), and the right amount of fluffiness. I must say, the prices have shot up as it was nearly $ 1 for one glazed donut. I like taking a stroll down memory lane like anybody else, but at that price, I’ll take the highway.
