All these«locals recommended» posts have me stymied. I’m local and expressly warn people away from this dive. It’s disgustingly filthy — the kind where you know the grunge goes all the way through the walls so they just don’t bother trying to deep clean. Wait staff with poor attitude, food you can’t enjoy because you know if the public side of the place looks like this, what must the kitchen look like. If you need a decent breakfast, walk next door to Connie’s Chicken for biscuits, chicken and doughnuts. Otherwise, you are better off going to a truckstop chain or even a fast food drive thru.

Bottom line: do not go here. I was really looking forward to a hole in the wall breakfast type experience. But… the food was absolutely awful. The service was great! Very attentive and friendly servers, however, that does not save this restaurant. This place is a dump. I felt like a shower was necessary after leaving. Sticky everything, dirty plates and silverware, warm coffee, gross/ripped up booths, nasty kitchen where the cook was just spreading disease and infection with his exposed hands w/no PPE. I am amazed that this rat hole hasn’t been shut down. There is NOWAY this establishment received an «A» from a health inspector. Perhaps that guy is a drug addict who was spun out during his inspection. Oh ya, do not get the omelette. The thing(I say thing because it could easily be mistaken for an extinct creature from the Mariana Trench) was cold, dank, and terrible. The biscuits and gravy?!? Good laaaawd! Defrosted in a microwave from hell, maybe? Atrocious. I’d rather go to a Waffle House then go within 100 yards of this place. In fact, I might put in for a restraining order. Suicide definitely crossed my mind as I mindlessly shoveled the slop into my face to avoid an awkward situation where I had to explain how badly the food tasted. I escaped with my life… but not my taste buds. They’ve burned out of my mouth.

I have lived in Tupelo for over a year and in that time I have heard repeatedly how Shockley’s is the best breakfast restaurant in town. Well I’ll be honest when I say that cannot be farther from the truth. The restaurant was filthy, and that should have been my first inclination to walk back to the car, but my wife begged to stay so I soldiered on. It took 15 minutes before a waitress made it to the table. It wasn’t very busy, maybe 10 tables had people seated. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette with bacon and breakfast potatoes. The food came out in 15 minutes which to me, for made fresh isn’t bad, but my god was it awful. The omelette was dry, but filled with ham, however it had only two or three shreds of cheese. The potatoes and bacon were the best part, but it could not save us from waiting 20 minutes after eating to get the check. I do not recommend this place and if anyone on Facebook tells you to go unfriend them immediately.

Filthy! You can scrape the old yellow smoke off the walls. And don’t go in the bathroom if you don’t want to catch some disease! Health department should shut this place down.

Maybe not the most beautiful building but the food makes up for the difference. Waitress was friendly and we really enjoyed the food. We ordered a grilled cheese and fries and a chocolate chip pancake with bacon. Will be back!

The food wasn’t all that bad, even though the bacon had been previously cooked and was kept under a heat lamp. My wife and I had biscuits with gravy, bacon, corned beef hash and home fries. On just food alone, probably would be close to 4 stars. The reason for the two star rating is the place is disgustingly dirty. The food preparation area was the dirtiest I have seen in my 10 plus years of being in the industry. The cook did not wear gloves and the service was sub par at best. Overall good value and decent food, if you can get over the filth, but for my money, I’m going to the Waffle House that is 1 stop light down the road.

I was visiting Tupelo and I hit up Foursquare for breakfast spots. Shockley’s was among the list so I chose it since it was nearby. Wait time: Once seated, I waited for what seemed like an eternity, but in actuality was probably only 10 minutes, to even be acknowledged. Still long by American standards. Attitude: Being unfamiliar with the menu since I was from out of town, I made a few simple inquiries regarding the menu. I asked if the pancakes with strawberries came with fresh strawberries or canned. The waitress immediately cut me off and said that they were canned, but that they were«good». I said that was fine, and ordered them, then asked for no whip crème since this is the south and they put whip crème on anything that isn’t syrup for breakfast. She snapped back and said that they didnt put whip crème on it. Oh the humanity that I assumed you did :( Not busy: The place was not busy at all. It was a Saturday morning at approximately 10AM. And this only added to my frustration at the slow response to my having been sat down. Food: Remarkably good. Standard diner fare. Yes the waitress was not lying when she said the strawberries were good. Thats the only reason this review has 3 stars instead of 2. I will not return and can not recommend.

Cheese eggs are great along with the biscuits. The staff is not shy about steering you away from bad bacon.
