Service was good but unfortunately the food was well below what I would refer to as Mexican. Good Mexican food is as much about presentation as it is about taste. Miss one and at best it would be considered«okay». This place has service figured out… Now they need to get the kitchen up too that same level. Recommend they work on preparing the plate with an eye towards appearance. Keep in mind, Mexican cuisine should emulate its culture. Bright colors, different textures and bold flavors. I’ll give them a few months and try it again and see if they’ve improved.

The first time I ate there was last year. The food was very good and the service was excellent. I tried it again a few day ago, and the food wasn’t very good. The meat had very little seasoning. It was like Taco Bell. I was very disappointed. When I decide to go to a Mexican restaurant, I want great flavors. Not bland and boring! The service was outstanding !

One of the many Mexican restaurants in Tuscaloosa. It doesn’t seem different than any other Mexican restaurant in town. They serve good food that many locals swear is the best in town. I wouldn’t recommend because it’s like most of the other ones in town and the main reason I give two stars is because I’ve seen roaches there before so cleanliness is kind of an issue.

We’ve been coming to this place for years and it’s my favorite Mexican in Tuscaloosa. They have the best salsa in town, and the prices are amazing. You can get a burrito a la carte, with chips and salsa and a water and be under $ 5. Very good fajitas, burritos, steak nachos, chimichangas. They change up the drink specials but there’s usually a good deal on draft beer and they have excellent Margaritas. If you have the stomach for it the Burrito Brava is very good and huge!

This is my first review to ever leave about a restaurant but I feel like it’s needed considering the few reviews I seen were somewhat positive and I went in with high expectations. The only positives about this place were the waiter was awesome, friendly, and fast and the order came out literally 3 minutes after he took it(that’s the only reason why I’m giving it 2 stars)…Now for the negatives… The first booth we sat at, I had to ask to be moved. The bottom portion of the seat was leaning forward making me lean towards the table and the leather was torn and cutting into my legs. After being moved, I was aggravated that they bring ONE cup of salsa(already poured) for two people… Where I come from, at every single Mexican restaurant, they bring just as many empty cups as there are customers and then a jar of salsa and you pour it yourself. Although it was my husband I was sharing salsa with, it prevented us from double dipping with our chips. And who doesn’t love double dipping with chips and salsa, right? We were disappointed with our menu options so we chose the fajitas for two because what could go wrong with fajitas? Many things can go wrong obviously. First, my BIGGEST issue of the day, the shrimp still had the tails on!!! Who wants to pull tails off shrimp that are on a sizzling hot plate? The taste was very bland and not seasoned enough. I’ve never seen a Mexican restaurant also make you share a plate of rice and beans with the other person. It was a large plate but I’m used to having your own small plate of rice and beans. One for each person. The whole time we were there, it was spent reaching in the middle of the table since we had to share salsa, rice and beans, and of course(as expected) the fajitas. I was surprised I got my own sweet tea and utensils… When we went to leave, the hostess made a rude face and crossed her arms. Both of the girls at the checkout(blonde and brunette white girls) seemed to have an attitude and weren’t very pleasant to be around. I come to Tuscaloosa often during football season and I love everything about this town except this place. Spend your money and time somewhere else.

What a gem to find open on Memorial Day otherwise known as a day no restaurants are open and we are road tripping across country. The food was good and freshly prepared. We got take out: Mexican style tacos with chorizo and steak, soft tacos with grilled chicken and a horchatta. While I wasn’t super impressed by the steak. The chorizo and the chicken were well seasoned and more than made up for what the steak was lacking. The salsa was good. Not very spicy which is good for most tastes, personally I like heat. The horchatta was a good add to the meal. Had the perfect blend of cinnamon and vanilla. The to-go service was pleasant. Not over the top great but it was take-out & deserved a solid pleasant. But most impressively my boyfriend has a slightly confusing taco order and this place of all the places we have ever ordered tacos at actually got it right… A big round of applause to them. If I lived here I could see myself frequenting this place.

I was super excited about picking up lunch here Sunday after reading all of the reviews that this is the most authentic and tasty Mexican place int T’town. It was fine, but going in with high expectations, I was pretty disappointed. The flauta was good. The tamale was okay. The tortilla soup was just plain odd, or at least not at all what I expected. It was like soupy refried beans with cheese and a few tortilla strips. While I wouldn’t refuse to go back, I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to go back either.

Still love their large beers and some of the menu items. And, not a bad choice for Mexican in Tuscaloosa. I strongly prefer the local taco truck(s) and Lope’z.

We tried Los Tarascos, even though it had«mixed reviews», because it was close to our hotel and we wanted Mexican food. So glad we did. Our food was delicious and our waiter, Carlos, was exceptional.

The restaurant is a part of this hideous looking plaza. The service was great though and I didn’t have to wait long for my taco salad. I got chicken and ground beef in my salad. The chicken was really bland but tasted fresh and was in shreds. I can’t remember what the ground beef tasted like. That can never be that great for a restaurant if I can’t remember what the food tasted like. However, the tortilla chips have probably been my favorite ones so far in Tuscaloosa. The salsa was too spicy for me! I’m a wimp so basically it was in the corner of my salad at this point.

I have had difficulty finding decent mexican food since moving to Alabama. This is one that is a solid choice for my Mexican fix. The restaurant is pretty large and has a lot of seating as well as a bar. Margaritas are decent and pretty inexpensive($ 17.50 for a pitcher) and the tortilla chips and salsa are excellent! I ordered enchiladas verde which was delicious and the portion was huge so I was not able to finish it all. Prices are decent as well. The restaurant is casual, and kid of divey and is located in a shopping plaza with other not-so-nice establishments. But once you get past the look, it is delicious. Would recommend.

The food looked good, taste was BAD. If a mexican restaurant does not know how to make decent salsa then what can i say. It was worst salsa & Chips ever. Bitter in taste, not sure if that day they had or it is always like that(not going back ever again). I also ordered a Veggie Quessedillas, Rice and beans. Below avg taste. I asked the waitor if I could taste very little amount of guacamole. At this point, if he was going to charge me for it, he should have let me known. He brought VERYLITTLE guacamole, which tasted bad as well, and he charged me for it.

Among myriad«Mexican» restaurants in the Tuscaloosa area, Los Tarascos is a good choice. The service is friendly, the portions are generous and the décor is southwestern and fun. There’s one burrito on the menu(somewhere around #36, perhaps?) that is ENORMOUS. It completely fills a platter and will do justice to any ravenous appetite(or two or three less-than-ravenous appetites…) that engages this behemoth in gastronomic battle. And if you like thrift stores, the America’s Thrift Store next door is a pretty good one, just to throw that out there.

This is sad to say, but my family eats here at least twice a month and have done so for years. They are«our» restaurant for Mexican food in Tuscaloosa. I like Lupes but get a little claustrophobic. The staff is very friendly and there is usually only a short wait to be seated. The Mexican tacos are my favorite but I also love the quesadilla tarascos and fajitas. Good margaritas too! Great place for kids and they try hard to quickly accommodate groups. I’d give them 5 stars if you could call ahead for group seating or Bama game day reservations. Sit back and enjoy your meal and put away your cell phone; cell/internet service in there is almost non-existent! Sometimes, it’s hard to even«check-in» on Facebook!

The family enjoyed Sunday lunch here today. The food is certainly a step above what you typically find at a Tex-Mex restaurant. The portions were HUGE and every dish at our table was a hit. I don’t think you can go wrong here. We will be back!
