I stopped in at the Sound Bank at the Vault and was blown away by the vinyl selection on offer. I wasn’t expecting much from a little record shop in Tuscola, but it easily bests any here in Madison, WI. They have thousands of records, old and new, and the prices are absolutely stellar since their overhead is probably a lot smaller. I was really impressed with the condition of the records, and I was informed that they run everything of value through a professional VPI record cleaner, so this makes sense. They also sell record cleaning fluid at a great price, especially with no shipping costs to deal with. It looks like several bands and indie labels use the Sound Bank as their store front so they also have a lot of rare small-run pressings that you probably can’t buy online. In addition to the records they also sell hi-fi equipment like phono preamps, receivers, turntables, and even a beautiful German record cleaning machine. All in all, I am completely in awe of this hidden gem. It’s a record buying mecca that I would probably have traveled a long way to find if I hadn’t been passing through. The Vault is inside of an eccentric old bank vault that has been transformed by the local art community into their gallery and center of operations. Definitely put this shop on your record hunting circuit, if only for the experience alone. Five stars to the Sound Bank at the Vault for the incredible selection of great wax they’re selling.
