I’ve been to Promenade a total of three times and have never been terrifically impressed with the service, although I am willing to concede that 2 out of the three were when it was very busy. The first time, I went by myself during one of their trunk shows and didn’t receive any assistance until I timidly asked for a dressing room and explained to the girl I was alone because my mom was in the hospital but I did have a blank check – so no need to worry about me being there just to play. The second time, a year later, was the worst. This time I was with my friend and was ignored for half an hour until one employee heard me complaining about needing a dressing room and finally put my name on the list – at this point my friend and I had decided to share a room to get out of that hellish, crowded place ASAP, but customers who had just come in were still placed in front of us. It was pretty obvious that they targeted only those who obviously looked like they could afford a dress, mostly sorority-looking girls accompanied by their mothers. Flashforward ONEHOURLATER and my friend and I are shuttled into a closet-like dressing room that my dad could’ve rigged up with plywood and a curtain in under three hours. We try on the dresses, too disgruntled to buy anything at this point, and have an extremely late lunch. The only employee who assisted in the slightest was the girl assigned to return the dresses back to the racks. After shopping around some more, I return to buy the dress I had originally tried on. This time I came prepared, wearing the outfit I had spotted on successful customers: leggings, oversized comfort colors tee, VS hoodie, brand-new Nike sneakers. It worked, because I was immediately welcomed as I walked through the door. However, the dress had to be ordered since it had been purchased and the price was about $ 100 higher, which I pointed out to confused looks. I regret not pressing the issue, especially when they asked me who had helped me on my original visit. «No one.» I replied. They pressed harder. «Can you tell us what they looked like?» I figure their employees work on commission, which would also explain the general dismissive attitude. Again, I emphasized that no one helped me. The clerk quickly returned to writing down my information. A few weeks later I picked up the dress and am so thankful it didn’t have to be altered so I never have to go back to that place. Cherry Tree Lane has much friendlier employees, and David’s Bridal has excellent service and cheaper yet similar dresses.
