I’ll confess that it was the owner’s friendliness and eagerness to offer samples that initially lured me to the shop, and because of the passion that he exudes towards his chocolates, I wanted to support him by making a purchase. Once I tasted the chocolate bars(dark chocolate with sea salt, as well as milk chocolate with almonds. $ 4 each), I was immediately hooked; his chocolates are distinctly delicious, that I returned for more! I wasn’t as excited about the toffee sample or the chocolate covered almonds(needs a few more coatings — a thick layer — of that delicious chocolate, in my opinion). Otherwise, love the chocolate bars! I’m eager to try the truffles! Great customer service!

Chocolat Noir was a great find hidden in the corner of the still-developing Union Market at the District. Food(5⁄5): I bought a sea salt dark chocolate as well as sampled the milk chocolate. Although I’m not a chocolate snob(yet), it was clear that this was supremely fine chocolate. Extremely smooth consistency that was sweet enough but not too much as so the high quality of the chocolate couldn’t be detected. Service(5⁄5): The owner/head chef was extremely appreciative to have some new customers stop by and was very generous to offer samples of whatever he had on hand. He was always happy to answer any questions and his passion for his work was evident. Pricing(4⁄5): The chocolate bar was $ 4, which may seem expensive, but it’s not fair to compare with normal brand name bars, this was exceptionally fine chocolate. Location: Chocolate Noir itself was a well kept location, but it will be interesting to watch the Union Market continue to develop, since it was still half vacant. The owner said he was planning on moving over a couple spots to a more central location. Conclusion(5⁄5): High quality ingredients, expert craftsmanship, and exceptional customer service makes Chocolat Noir the best chocolate shop I’ve ever been to.

I stopped by this place and talked with the owner today. Ashkan is a young man who went to Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in San Francisco. He decided to choose chocolate as his passion, and it shows in the delicious candy’s he makes by hand every day. He’s a bit hard to find but well worth looking for him. You’ll really enjoy what he creates, and the taste is fantastic.

Ashkan has a great culinary background and has worked hard to bring this shop together. I’ve tried a majority of his goods from baklava(which is very difficult to make correctly) to the truffles to the toffee. Keep it up dude!

Chocolate Noir is the lowest priced and highest quality chocolate shop I have been a patron of. I was instantly offered samples of different chocolates they had for sale. The man working at the counter was Ashkan and he was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his product. I was able to get a very well put together gift for my girlfriend on Valentine’s day, it had included the delicious dark chocolate box with toffee, chocolate almonds, dark chocolate bar and a cute stuffed bear for merely $ 20. Needless to say my girlfriend really enjoyed it and I will continue to shop here for my chocolate needs. 11⁄10 would recommend to anyone who likes chocolate.

Owner is rude, and chocolates are less than mediocre for the price. Stay away! In response to owner: The owner doesn’t seem to think people ever go on vacation, and instead of owning up to his faults, accuses his customers of «personally attacking» him. LOL what a joke! If he were half as good at making chocolates as he is at blaming others for his problems, he’d probably have a decent business.

I stumbled upon this shop while shopping with my Grandma and I was blown away by the toffee! Ashkan was very friendly and explained his background in chemistry and culinary arts, which made him open this shop. He really knows a lot about his craft and I could tell he is very devoted to making the best tasting chocolate!

Specialty chocolate like this is hard to come by. I loved every bite. The owner was great. He knows his stuff and is passionate about making sure that the chocolate is quality.
