I have previously taken private lesson for guitar and violin. I can say, without any hesitation, that Carter Dewberry is the best music instructor that I know. She is armed with an assertive nature which is tempered with patience. She is confident without being conceited. Dr. Dewberry possesses an admirable combination of poise, intelligence and humor. She has the exceptional ability to teach, compose and perform music. Her teaching skills are impeccable; her cello performances are legendary.
As my private cello teacher, I have learned more about playing than I ever would have imagined. My skill level has improved at a phenomenal rate and others have commented on my increasing proficiency. This is all due to Dr. Dewberry’s approach. She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts, so she has the ability to teach at all levels. However, she also has the unique talent to simplify complex musical theories so they are easy to understand. She never speaks over your head, nor does she ever speak down to you. Her lessons are tailored for each individual. I requested to learn classical music, modern classical and rock songs. Now, I’m playing the songs that I enjoy, so I’m constantly motivated.
During the year, my work schedule can be very demanding; at other times, I have ample time to practice. Dr. Dewberry creates lessons that have the flexibility to ensure my progress when my time is either limited or when my time is abundant.
Dr. Dewberry’s music program has a unique component that other instructors do not offer. She provides an avenue for public performances. As the music director of the Orange County Cello Choir, she encourages all students to join at no additional cost. This gives the students an opportunity to practice as an ensemble and to perform in a public setting. She also organizes quartets for those who desire the additional learning experience.
Carter Dewberry is very social. She is friendly, fun and approachable. People are drawn to her; all enjoy her company. Her lessons are highly rewarding and I always look forward to the learning experience.

I was new to the cello when I started taking lessons from Carter at Cello Voce Music two years ago, and she has made my first couple of years an absolute joy! Carter is highly accomplished and gifted as a cellist, so I have always felt that I am getting the very best instruction. Additionally, she has a natural talent for teaching and I find myself highly motivated by her approach. Another great benefit of lessons at Cello Voce is that there are many opportunities to play with other cellists in a quartet or a larger ensemble — the OC Cello Choir. I have studied other musical instruments for many years, but no teacher has come close to providing the level of enjoyment and progress that I have experienced with Cello Voce Music. Simply Amazing. I graduated with a degree in music/​piano many years ago. When I decided to learn cello as a second instrument, I was fortunate enough to find Carter. She is a joy and is able to teach the complexities of the cello with creative and fun exercises.
