Terrible men’s scissor cuts. I’ve never had someone so seemingly inept at wielding scissors. Ho Tien Thin Nguyen could not take simple instructions of how I wanted it to look and required a photo, obviously not used to cutting men’s hair without a number. She didn’t wet the hair at first, making the cut uncomfortable with it difficult for her to work with my hair. She started with thinning shears instead of using them as a finishing touch. She quickly gave up and went to the familiar buzzer with a comb. The result? Terribly choppy look with little layering effect to blend the length from slightly longer up top to a bit shorter on the sides (barely not able to hang over the ears.). It isn’t a complete disaster, no major mistakes just overall bad at men’s scissor cuts. Try somewhere else, gents. See photo with white backdrop.

Paul has been taking care of me since they first opened and I must say every haircut has been consistent and exceed my expectations. The attention to detail on every cut is exceptional. This is the first barber that I feel confident with their work and will continue to support his business.

Paul is great and has always been very accommodating in making time to see me.
He definitely knows what he is doing and the haircuts are affordable and always on point. He is also generally a very nice person, which makes the haircut a very pleasant experience.

I’ve been going to see Paul every 3 weeks for about 6 months now. Every cut has been perfect! Everyone that I’ve met at Modern Barber has been professional, and super nice. If you’d like to get a cut from Paul, make sure to make an appointment as he is always booked. Best spot I’ve found since moving from the Bay!

Last few times have been my worst haircuts ever. Even by Paul. Doesn’t take his time to be meticulous and will cut double the length you request. Never coming back. Bring a ruler.

Paul took my husband in on a drop-​in. Cleaned him up pretty well. Paul took his time cutting and grooming my husband’s hair. Very nice barber shop, clean, and friendly. Happy to have found this place. I’m sure my husband will be back and we will bring the kids in too.

The only reason that this place is even getting 2 stars from me is because my haircut is cut nicely, BUT IT IS NOT WHAT I WANTED.
The barber shop that I typically go to only has 3 stars and they always give me what I want, but the technique isn’t always perfect. So, thinking that a place with a much better rating would do a much better job, I came here. Oh boy, was I wrong.
Before I sat down I told her I wanted a flat top with the sides faded. She said okay, she would do it. The haircut in itself isn’t horrible. The fade is decent, the lines are clean, but the part that she messed up the most is the top! My hair was about 2 ½ inches long before i went in there. Now, I’m lucky if it’s even half an inch. When she asked me how long I wanted the top, I told her that I only wanted her to even it out because I want it as long as possible. Now I have this. My eye sight is so poor that when I don’t have my glasses on I’m considered legally blind. Since you can’t wear glasses while you’re getting your hair cut, I couldn’t see anything that was happening until it was too late … This was actually supposed to be my last haircut before i got extensions dreaded in, and now I can’t do it because they didn’t cut it the way that I wanted it. I am very unhappy and I can tell you now that I will NEVER come back to this place again. Unless I’m trying to go bald that is. –_–

Came in here at 9:50 am. I assumed you didn’t need an appointment. There’s nothing in the shop that indicates that. so I sat there and waited. 30 minutes go by and I ask if Paul is coming in cause im next and the guy tells me I need appointment. So I walked out. If I had known I wouldn’t have wasted my time. Typical customer service. People don’t like working on weekends so they treat customers like shit.

I walked in without an appointment, Thuy was available to cut my hair immediately, she did a great job, she has an awesome personality. This was my second haircut there. Super happy each time.

Was worried that I was gonna be late for band practice, as I needed for a much needed buzz cut. Found them on Unilocal that they’re open til 7, and I just came in hoping there’s an availability.
Thuy was very accommodating and pleasant, it’s like meeting a long lost friend. Did the buzz in a timely manner, and she made sure to check with me if it’s okay that she fix certain areas.
Would highly recommend this place to my family and friends!

Thuy did a fabulous job cutting my hair. She was very nice and friendly. I felt very comfortable with her. She took her time and made sure that I look amazing for my Mexico trip. After the haircut she brought a hot towel and massaged my head and clean the hair out of my face and neck. Overall excellent customer service. Also the place looks really nice and modern. I don’t normally go on Unilocal at all!!! But Thuy was fantastic, she is a artist!!! My head is like Salt and pepper!!! Looks like Einstein head!!! Now I feel like more like Brad Pit!!! Haha!!! Might not be as handsome as him!!! Thuy totally made me like I was!!! Lol anyways!!! I gotten a cut and color!!! Everything came out perfect!!! She was very thorough on not letting me get stain on my four head or neck!!! She is so thoughtful!!! Really made feel welcome when I walk in!!! Owner Paul was awesome too!!! I am definitely coming back again very soon and telling my friends and family!!! Love this place !!! Thuy got me as client for life!!!

Came here based on a coworker’s recommendation. It’s a little out of the way but I heard great things. Paul did not disappoint. Walked in at 5pm and Paul actually fit me in before a 5:30 appointment. You can really tell that he takes pride in his work. I’ve got really stubborn hair and Paul gave my hair a good combing to see where my cowlicks were growing.
Overall, I’d recommend this place if you’re in the area. However, I don’t see myself returning because although he had to cut it short (sweet pun, bro) to make time for his appointment, I feel like he rushed through the cut and I notice a lot of jagged edges and uneven lines when I got home. Happy with the look, but I have a feeling I’ll be going back for another cut sooner than I’d like.

Edited Review: I posted the review below and a stylist contacted me through Unilocal to explain why they were not open. It really goes to show that this barber shop goes the extra mile to make sure their clients are taken care of. Excellent customer service. I would give more than 5 stars if possible. While I did get my hair cut here once by Paul and he did a fantastic job… this review is really for their men’s haircuts.
Everytime they cut my fiancée’s hair, I was amazed at how clean and trendy the cut and style was… and for less than $ 20 including tip. FYI a woman’s cut was $ 45. He isn’t the type to be too picky about telling stylists what to do, which can be challenging for some stylists, but with minimal effort they were able to give him a cut that really suited him. Why go to one of those pretentious «men’s salons» and pay $ 30 for a cut that’s equal if not better than here. In addition, everyone’s really nice, quick, and not too talkative (which I find preferable). The place is really clean with a modern décor, they do take walk-​ins and don’t ever seem to be crazy busy (which is really surprising). The icing on the cake is it’s in the same plaza as Orange Roll Sushi.

Walked in to fix a haircut from Sportsclips and didn’t have to wait. (Only had my cut a week ago).
Modern Barber offers much more personal touch than the franchises and truly treats their clients like a VIP rather than an MVP.
Great prices and excellent atmosphere.

As a student I don’t have too much money to blow on hair cuts but I still want that fresh look and not the supercut look. I found this place via Unilocal and it looks pretty amazing. I had Linda. She very nice and did a nice clean cut for me. I’m glad to say I have found my new place to cut my hair for an affordable price.
(My cut was only 17).
Don’t forget to tip them nicely for doing an awesome job.

Finding Modern Barber after work literally made my day. Fantastic service from start to finish.
My co-​worker recommended this place at lunch. I called in at 5:00 PM to book an appointment. Paul answered the phone and told me to just come in at 6:00 PM. I arrived at 6:05 PM and was immediately seated.
After introducing himself, Paul asked me what kind of haircut I wanted. I showed him a few pictures on my phone and he got to work right away. Friendly and talkative, but 110% focused on detail. He probably spent at least 30 minutes on my gentleman’s cut with a hard part and a fade. Probably the cleanest haircut I’ve ever gotten… no joke.
Prices are absolutely reasonable. Men’s cuts range from $ 15 – 25 depending on style, shampoo, etc.
The interior is dope. Wide, comfortable couches to lounge on. Large HD TV’s. Plenty of magazines. Good music.
A real local gem.
