Really cool place. If you are crafty, you will like this place. The outlet of Purl Soho in NYC, this place has yarn, fabric and embroidery. They sell a lot of luxury fibers, but since they’re retail price I wouldn’t make the trip when I could order online. However, they had an excellent selection of the signature yarn on sale, and that made it worth a trip. Skeins of every hue were 40% off so I bought enough for a sweater.

Although tricky to find as it is tucked away in a large sprawling center, you’ll be well rewarded. Only open 9 – 2 pm Tuesday to Friday this is the warehouse for the store in nyc. The warehouse is well organized although you may have to ask for prices. One side of the warehouse stocks all things fabric with an extensive collection of Liberty prints and lots of solid color quilting cottons. Notions and accessories are tucked here and there in bins. Look carefully. The other side features all things knitting, with bins full of yarns in all sorts of fibers and colors. Prices are the same in the shop in nyc and you can view much of their stock online. Beautiful quality at high prices.

I love this place! Yarn Heaven! When I want to have nice yarn for a project I order from here. They are open during the week to the public but I can’t always go, so I wish they would open on Saturdays too. Their yarn is some of the best. It’s pricey but worth it.

A pricey place run by crafty and helpful people. I have been there many times on my lunch break as I work down the street — lucky me! Purl is the stocking site for PurlSoho’s online business, so it’s set up like a warehouse. They carry an extensive selection of hard to locate yarns like Habu textiles and Alchemy yarns. They also carry some moderately priced yarns like Cascade and Manos del Uruguay. They also carry kits, notions, bags, and smaller bits of yarn for needlepoint and cross-stitch. The location is very neat and the staff can direct you to whatever you’re looking for, you just need to be assertive and ask them as this is not your typical retail shop. I have even had a helpful employee help me look up a project on Ravelry because I forgot the type of yarn I needed to purchase! The whole wall of Addi needles is very tempting, and they also have a variety of different books on knitting, crochet, sewing, as well as less frequently seen Japanese books. Be sure to check out early if you don’t have cash(as they need to enter your credit card information as if you were making an online purchase) and be prepared to pay a bit more than you would at other sites to visit this unique location. Even if you don’t purchase something — a difficult feat — you should go into peruse the gorgeous stock of yarns.

So, I’m a little in love with this store. As other Unilocalers have mentioned, this is a warehouse for Purl Soho(in NY). What this means is that you shouldn’t come here looking for knitting classes, crocheting classes quilting classes, or cozy tables for social knitting. It also means no insulation so it’s hot in the summer and chilly in the winter. But look – still 4 stars. I jam on their collection of Manos del Uruguay, Malabrigo, and madelinetosh. I also am psyched because a small amount of Abstract Fiber roving is stashed on the bottom shelf in the far corner of the warehouse. Also, yay for having a fully stocked selection knitting needles and notions – stitch markers, tape measures, etc. I’m wowed by their selection of BOOKS!!! Although I don’t sew, I also wandered through their fabric selection because you never know when you’ll need to line a felted handbag. It’s fun, happy, and of a good good quality. Last warnings before you go: #1 Call ahead for hours. They’re sorta funky mid-day hours. #2 Take the exact address with you and I’m talkin’ both street address and suite #. Purl is a warehouse so it’s located in an extremely industrial business park with a half dozen similar-looking non descript buildings. There is no sign identifying Purl. The best I can do is to tell you that, when you turn into the driveway, look for an industrial park sandwich joint called Bread Basket on your left. Go past the Bread Basket to the back of the industrial park. When it deadends at a building, hopefully your car will be pointed at 15431 and you’ll be pretty darn near Suite D. RECOMMEND

As a New Year’s resolution, I decided to crochet as part of learning new crafts. My girlfriends told me about Purl. This past weekend I went to check it out. I felt like a kid in the candy store. They had an assortment of yarn in vibrant colors. The staff was very helpful and made sure I got what was necessary as a beginner. They have made a regular customer out of me!!!

This is just for the yarn selection, as I don’t sew. Wowza. There are two large rooms, one for the fabric and one for the yarn and yarn-related supplies. I made a beeline for the yarn room and walked around openmouthed for a while because there was just so much of it. There is a large selection of Manos del Uruguay and madelinetosh in particular, although there are also a large number of other yarns, both workhorse like Cascade, and specialty such as cones of Habu Textiles. The great thing about this location is that you can check for their inventory before you go. You can get an idea of what they have, or make a list if you don’t think you have the self-control to go on a spending spree and buy up everything you possibly can. I had that same impulse, and I had to control myself with only one skein of madelinetosh light :) The location is a bit hard to find, as it’s tucked away in an old office complex-looking area. The sign is only a letter sized printout, so look closely! Also, since the storefront is essentially a warehouse for shipping out orders, it doesn’t have the amenities of a normal yarn store, such as nice decorations or air conditioning. But for the choices of yarn and findings, I can easily overlook such extraneous details. The staff here is very friendly. I was the only one in the store at that time, and one of the staff came over to ask me if I needed any help, and was ready to complete my purchase when I was done. In between, while I was looking around, they were filling orders and doing other storekeeping tasks, so they’re not hovering over you making you feel nervous. Prices here are fairly normal. For good/high quality yarn, that is. If you’re not one that crafts regularly with yarn, you may be surprised at the price of the yarn. It is(most of the time) fair. Most yarns are produced by small companies, or processed by hand, or are committed to paying fair wages for all those involved in the yarn-making process, or all three and more, and the prices reflect all these different efforts. I’m not saying it’s not pricey, but it’s fair and normal, so don’t be too surprised.

Love this place! So much happiness in a drafty grey concrete box! I love that it is the shipping warehouse so you can see exactly what they have online. It helps me stick to the plan.

They have a lot i mean A LOT of cute fun fabric. all fabrics are high quality, thick cotton. service is not great, but It makes sense since it is a warehouse online based shop. the workers are always busy preparing online orders. the warehouse is not big but they pack the place w/fabric! also the hours aren’t that great… who closes at 2 pm? :P

This is the place to go for designer fabrics. I had no idea they had their warehouse in Tustin, literally less than 3 miles away until I found it on Unilocal.Joann’s is fine for ordinary stuff, but Purl is it for the unique prints. The store front is unmarked and tucked away in an older industrial park. I missed it the first time I went. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I love the selection of the various designers. I especially love the Koko prints for kids. Fabric is pricey, so I also hit their sales rack, usually 40%. I try to go once every couple weeks to make sure I don’t miss anything on the sale rack. If you want to stay focus, get in and out quickly, you should check out the selection online first.

Love the warehouse! It’s definitely great to be able to feel the fabrics, especially Anna Maria Horner’s voile and all the beautiful Liberty of London fabrics. I liked that the ladies gladly answered my questions but also let me be to explore all the wonderful fabrics. They have an entire room devoted to yarns and embroidery, if that’s your cup of tea. Ideally, I like to shop for fabric when my toddlers aren’t with me or when they’re asleep. But, wouldn’t you know it, they were both wide awake and energetic when we were at the warehouse… they thought they were explorers on a great adventure. My kids didn’t make a mess or anything. But, I’m just glad the ladies weren’t unfriendly or unaccomodating to us. In fact, they were quite friendly. I appreciate great customer service when I’m out and about with my lil ones. One great tip I learned if you’re local: you can buy your fabrics online and get the shipping fee waived by picking it up. Just state in your order that you plan on coming in to pick it up.

I was in a car accident a few days ago and by the time I had finished dealing with everything that ensues after an awful accident like that, I was worn out, withdrawn, and a little depressed. My sweetheart could tell I was feeling down so he asked me if I wanted to go to Purl to check out their inventory. He knows that I like to look at pretty things, and reams of fabric with lovely little prints in all their colorful glory are definitely things that cheer me up. This warehouse supplies the Purl store in New York and according to one of the employees, the business was started by three sisters, one of whom did not want to leave CA for NY and so that’s how the warehouse ended up clear across the country from the store. Good thing for us locals since I have yet to see such an array of fabrics as the Purl warehouse carries and moseying through the different inventory, I was instantly enthralled and happily poked my nose here and there, wishing fervently I had the sewing skills that could transform the fabrics that caught my fancy into anything I wanted. The store has fabrics from different designers from Amy Butler to Liberty of London. They also carry felt wool, yarn, embroidery threads, craft kits, ribbon, and a whole wall of books dedicated to teaching you the arts of sewing, knitting, embroidery and so forth. The employees are friendly and helpful, answering any and all questions if needed but pretty much leaving you to browse as you please. By the time we left the store with yards of fabric and ribbon, I wasn’t 100% but definitely on my way and the day looked a little bit better and brighter.

Other than some light sewing and button replacements I have not used needles and strings for anything else… but I have always wanted to. Earlier this year I came across and their hip, unique take on embroidery and instantly wanted to learn how to do it. I have had many failures on the road to looking for my «thing», I have wasted too much money whilst trying to find my crafty self and this time I didn’t want to get myself involved in one more failure. Sublime Stitching’s store locator led me straight to . and Jennifer. When I walked in the front door I could tell that I had walked into a warehouse, but not just any warehouse… It was so colorful. So full of reams of fabric, spools of strings of all different thicknesses and colors and instantly I was enthusiastic about the creative adventure I was about to start. Jennifer led me to the Sublime Stitching iron-on patterns. I made myself comfortable on the warehouse floor and picked two patterns that grabbed my attention. This is the part of the story that explains why I have granted 5 starts. After I had the patterns I liked, I went back to Jennifer and explained to her that I had never embroidered anything before and asked if she could help me gather everything I would need to start. She smiled and walked me around to grab needles and explained that I need to start with the largest needles. She showed me drawers loaded full of colorful threads… I chose a spool of black to get me started. I walked around and found a hoop, a super cute project bag and made my way back to Jennifer. She added up my purchases, I paid, and she wished me well… assuring me that when she started she didn’t get the results she was after but she kept at it. I can’t wait to become an embroiderer extraordinaire so I can visit Jennifer again round up more colors and patterns.

i come here for the beautiful selection of fabric, not yarn, although you can get some nice yarn as well. months ago, i was in new york, and visited their store. although this place is an easy to miss warehouse/office space and not as pretty as the shop, it rivals any local or online fabric shop save britex in san francisco. of course, i couldn’t possibly compare it to the mecca of fabric stores. still, they have lots of impossible to find elsewhere japanese fabric as well as decorator-weight fabrics with contemporary designs, and it’s not as overwhelming. they have amy butler, joel newberry, anna maria horner, to name a few. there’s a website – http://www.purlsoho.com/ – and a blog – http://www.purlbee.com/ – with free patterns(both knitting & sewing). the fabric is not cheap, but this is no chain craft store.

I was soooo tired of Joann’s fabrics for the over 60 set. I wanted a funky and fun cotton for a car seat cover I’m about to attempt for my daughter. I wanted to like the big box fabric store and their 40% off coupons, but I couldn’t bring myself to put all that work into something I didn’t like. I’d resigned myself to ordering online and then I search Unilocal for«fabrics.» Voila! I was seriously considering ordering from Purl and their warehouse didn’t disappoint. While they didn’t have enough yardage of the fishies my daughter pointed at, I got something lovely and funky. Since my yarn shop in Ladera Ranch closed, I’ve needed a source for fine yarns so I expect I’ll sampling that side of the warehouse come autumn. Yay for Purl West!

For you yarn and fabric addicts, it’s the warehouse for PurlSoho the website. The company has two stores in New York but none in California, but their warehouse is located here so it gets a bit confusing. Though it is a warehouse, you are free to drop by Tues-Fri from 9 – 4. You can check out the website to see their selection and quantity amounts before you go. Since it is a warehouse the prices aren’t labeled except for a few. That’s why I suggest browsing the site before you go. The staff is friendly and willing to help you out amid packaging orders. The yarns are to your right and fabrics on the left. It is fairly organized by brand. They are known for their huge selection of Manos del Uruguay and unique Japanese fabrics. There isn’t much to say because everything on their site is at the warehouse. I would like to give them more stars, but their yarn selection isn’t the biggest compared to other yarn shops.
