I think it’s cool California hosted one of the best American writers. If you run in to the place just south out Angels Camp stop by. It’s worth it. Even though I’ve never read the Frog of Calaveras I did enjoy Tom Sawyer /Huck Finn.

Happen to come upon the turn off to the cabin when headed to another location. I figured I would give it a look-see since we were right there. Thanks to Adrianna G’s review on Unilocal to verify it was worth the time. It’s like a mile off of the road and the road to the cabin is like a residential area. Didn’t expect that. Pretty remote. Anyway. This ISN’T the original cabin. It’s a tribute cabin built in the early twentieth century to mark the location. I was a little bummed about that. Still the two plaques tell a pretty good story about the cabin and the location. You wouldn’t of thought all that was going on at this remote location back in the 1850s. Worth a stop if your a Mark Twain fan for sure.

Where Mark Twain wrote his famous story«The Celebrated Frog of Calaveras County» & spent some time in a small cabin. Worth a drive up a poorly-marked road & past some unique houses to find this little historic spot. Various stuffed frogs are tied to trees in the perimeter of the cabin & there is a historic plaque just outside marking the spot.
